tracybayliss Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 hi ideally as a family would we prefer to come over to oz on a skilled migrant visa, which i do have the right amount of points for, however i saw a good job recently and have been offered the position and was told i could be sponsored. unfortunatley i dont know too much about sponsorship. Im a midwife so would think that the hospital wishing to sponsor me must do this on a regular basis, however i would prefer a sponsored permenant visa but this hopital only offers 457 visa which is temporary. Can any one advise if this has worked well for them, ive sent a few emails to the immigration general enquires and was quite shocked with their evasive approach, i dont really want to pay out money to a agent to seek this advice. The hospital who have offered me a job also want me their asap pref march was does seem a bit unrealistic. I received a email yesterday from immigration stating that a skilled migrant visa could take upto 12 months, is this true even with a job offer? it therefore seems our only option is to get a 457 visa which worries me a little, can we still buy a house over there, as think we will rent ours here at moment, and once you are in oz on a 457 visa can you apply for a permenant resident visa straight away. Im the main applicant has anyone experienced their partners having difficulties getting work by having this sort of visa or their children having difficulties as my son is 20 in march and is strating an apprenticehsip here in Jan so doesnt know whether to stay and finish it here or try and get an apprenticeship out there, dont no if thats possible on a temporary visa. would appreciate advice thanks tracy and john:arghh:
Guest billy braveheart Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Hi Tracy & John Looks like you have 2 options hun take the 457 route & apply for perm out here or wait in the uk for perm first as you say can take about 12 months but im sure then you will not have a problem getting a job here. I know there are people on here that have came out on the same kind of proffession as yourself & got perm no problems at all and will be along to give their advice. We are on a 457 which was the only route for us a OH was 45 BUT one thing that does concern me is your son. My 17 year old has to be shown as a depended on our 457 visa as to be included in out PR which means he can only work part time & if he was to go to college on the 457 it would cost us a small fortune. But your son is 20 so I'm not sure if he would have to get his own visa as he is over 18 im pretty sure he would have to but I might be wrong. Most migration agents offer a free 20 min chat over the phone might be worthwhile giving them a call to ask about what your son has to do. Good Luck Janette
Life on easy street Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 If you have the required number of points go that route. I know it is more expensive and will take longer you can then choose where you work. If go using the company sponsorship route 457 visa Your sponser could be an employer from heaven  Or an employer from hell. I have worked with an employer from hell in the U.K it is bad enough in your own country but Australia even worse. see this thread http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/migration-issues/26863-457-warning-new-post.html
