Guest Gollywobbler Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Hi Helaine I am not going to interfere with your posts because you can edit them yourself if you agree with me. Give out your bro's mobile number by all means but NOT his home landline number, I suggest, because from that it is FAR too easy to trace his address. And - believe it or not - there are sick mongrels around who are wannabe dog-nappers. I am not joking. Buck Buchanan knows Petersfield so he can back me up on this one. I went to Waitrose, in the middle of the Square. I took Chocky (our extremely gormless black labrador with me, but he had been brown when he was tiny, hence his name. Eventually he hit 14 and expired, poor old mutt.) Chocky was gormless because we had molly-coddled him since before he left the whelping box. (He is also the only dog I've ever met who has been to a cocktail party at the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes. We would have been dismissed at the door but the dog tagged along with The Great & The Good and got in. Eventually they twigged that Chocky was a gate-crasher - after he had scrounged every morsel of grub in the place, no doubt - and one of their footmen brought him back to us in the marina. We thought he had gone for a forage round the bins. We'd have replaced his collar with a black tie if we had known of his High Society plans.....) Chocks had no concept of cruelty because no one had ever been cruel to him. He had been trained as a gundog by a game-keeper. That was a 2-edged sword because he would walk to heel, sit, stay and the rest but one does not put a retriever on a lead when the guns are around, so he would NOT walk quietly on a lead. He trotted to heel to the shop, and I told him to sit and stay outside, knowing I could rely on him to do that as long as nobody interfered. I came out. No dog. I zapped back to my parents' house (a 3 minute walk.) No dog there, either. The mobile then rang. Some Paddy was on the other end claiming to have "rescued" the dog. He got the number from the paper inside the little capsule on Chock's collar. Paddy wanted money, predictably. I was LIVID, so I stormed back up to the Square. Paddy was coming the other way, with hs belt round Chock's collar. Chocky - being gormless - was padding along quietly for once, imagining that this was some kind of game. I bellowed, "Chockers!" The dog went mad with joy. I told Paddy, "Get that belt off him before I throttle you with his lead, which I now have with me to protect him from you." He said craftily, "Ah, to be sure, to be sure. How do I know that he is your dog?" I thundered, "I am NOT going to stand in the middle of Petersfield squabbling with a tramp! The cop shop is a one minute walk. Come with me and we will sort this out there but I warn you that stealing a dog is theft and I will have you nicked for it, chum." Paddy decided that he would prefer not to dscuss the matter with the cops, so he released Chocky. He then had the GALL to bleat to me, "£5 in change fell out of my pocket when I took my belt off to rescue the dog, which was roaming round the car park behind the shops....." "The dog was not roaming anywhere, chum. That is wishful thinking on your part. He is a gundog and they do NOT roam around like vagabonds. If you contrived to lose a fiver in change in the car park, you had best get back there quickly to look for it before someone else finds and collects these gleaming coins, had you not?" GOD I was angry!!! I recommend that if a PiO Member offers to look after the dog, then well and good but it MUST be someone whom you can identify for certain via this forum. Otherwise, find some decent boarding kennels and leave the dog there, I firmly suggest. Cheers Gill
Guest gajackdeb1@bigpond.com Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 hi gill, i totally agree with you if we do get to have archie we would firstly like to meet him prior to archie coming to stay just to see if archie takes to us..... we do not have anyother pets but jack is always going on about us getting one :jimlad: will see what hubby says tonite any information that helaine or her brother wants we would be more than willing to provide them  debs
Guest Helaine Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 thankyou so much for advice, i totally agree with you but me being my usual trusting self just went ahead and did it, the reason they didnt want to put him in kennels is that hes such a softy it tok months for him to be his normal self after quaruntine so i thought i would see if one of the guys could help them out, of course they would ahve to meet my bro and his wife and Archie that goes with out saying...... Deb if you can help that would be great.
