Guest klangton Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Hi everyone, I've finally plucked up the courage to say hello! I have been looking at the PIO site for a while now and joined a few weeks ago. It seems such a nice easy to use forum and we have managed to find out lots of things we didn't previously know about moving to Australia. A quick intro then: We initially considered moving to Oz at the start of the year and hubby started to look for work over here. Hubby (Chris) got interview with QUT (Queensland Uni of Technology) in June. Chris offered job and whole family went to look round in July. Loved what we saw in Brisbane and Chris accepted offer. Started visa application early September and after many manic moments and stressful times we were granted the permanent visa on 29th November. Yipeeeee:notworthy: Chris is due to start his new job on 1st Feb so looking to fly over towards end of January. We have two children, Lewis aged 14 and Dylan aged 3 and a king charles spaniel called Jasper(who is coming too!) Well, they are the basics so just to say how much we enjoy reading posts on the forum and as well as being very informative, they also make us laugh:jiggy: Byeee for now Karen
Guest KP Nuts Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Hi Karen, and to PIO. on already having your visa. Good luck with the move, and new job for Chris. KP Nuts
Guest Gollywobbler Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Hi Karen Welcome to Poms in Oz. Have you thought about initial accommodation once you get to Brisbane? If not, Cal (calngary) who posts on here has a two bedroomed furnished apartment or unit in Jimboomba. She might have a vacancy at around the right time. That would give you a starting base (unless QUT are going to sort something out for you) and knowing Cal, she would make sure that there is enough food, milk etc in the property to enable you to manage for a day or two until you get over your jet lag. Are you planning to stop over en route anywhere? If so, where? Cheers Gill
keily Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 ALL THE BEST IN YOU NEW LIFE !!! ... LUCKY THINGS LOL MRS KEILY
a&s Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 :v_SPIN:Hi and welcome to PIO, and good luck for your new life in OZ...:v_SPIN:
Guest klangton Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Thanks for the warm welcome. Gill, we are hoping to stay in the CBD for 2 weeks as QUT will provide that for us. After that we were hoping to go into furnished accomodation for 4-6 weeks until our furniture arrives and we can find a long term rental house, so having a base already sorted out for us would be great . I will tell Chris about the 2 bed apartment offered by Cal. How far away is it from the CBD and how long would it take by public transport? Thanks for you help Karen
Guest mandy&Jem Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Hello Karen and family. WOW!!! SO quick! Congratulations we wish you and your family well and hope you have a great life in Austrtalia! -x-
