Guest darsar Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Dear All,I am confused(doesnt take much on a Monday morning!)If an employer sponsers you do you still have to pass a skills assessment? My OH is a joiner/wood machinist with no qualifications and I was wondering if sponsership would be the easiest option for us(instead of him doing Vetasses)Please help,Sarah++++:arghh:
Lynne2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Hi Sarah, i got my visa through 457 sponsorship and i didnt have to do skills assessment, the sponsor visa is done using your work experience and qualifications but you dont have to go through a skills assesment, i made sure i photocopied all my certificates over the years including just the general regular training ones, my nvq2 one and you have to have at least 3 years work experience in the job you are going for. But no skills assessment. If you want any more info then fell free to ask me hun :jiggy:
Guest billy braveheart Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Hi sarah your hubby wont necessary have to have a skills assesment for sponsorship But he will be required to have it if you are thinking of going for perm visa at a later date so probably better doing it from that side where its easier to get the info he will need than trying to gain the info from within oz hope this helps billy
Guest darsar Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Thanks Lynne,we may just take the sponsership route then.My OH has no qualifications/certificates but has 8 years work experiance in his trade,so that must count for something. How did you find a sponser?Sarah+++:jiggy:

Thanks Em x

Guest billy braveheart Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 absolutely em I was only thinking of our personal position and i didnt want to wait the 2 years so had my TRA done prior to leaving the uk so i could apply for my 856 as soon as possible after arrival, but as you say if you are willing to wait the 2 years then go for it, darsar best of luck on the sponsorship front as i know how hard it is to get a company to follow up and actually go the full way,as i was let down by at least 3 companies who said they would sponsor me only for them to let me down at the last minute before i actually got one who did billy
Guest darsar Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Thanks everyone, there is certainly a lot to think about. We are going to have to sit down over xmas and make some decisions.Good luck to you all.:v_SPIN:Sarah++++
