    The truth about Wynnum

I am wondering if anyone can tell me what Wynnum is really like as I am getting quite a conflicting picture. Lots of reviews on forums and suburb profiles show it as a great place for families, outdoor activities and a bit of a boom town. However I've also read a few posts, on this forum and elsewhere, that say the train stations are unsafe, it is full of housing projects and is the Bogan (chav) capital of Brisbane. The latter posts are generally written by people who used to live there. So what's the story is it a gem and are the negative posters behind the times or are the positive reviews over optimistic? We (me, my wife and two young kids) got our 457s through last week (oddly they took just 6 days including a weekend) and are emigrating on the 17th November Given the cost of short term lets over Christmas we really want to secure a 3-6 monther before we fly out. I have found some great properties in Wynnum and particularly Wynnum West (anyone know Grainger street?) but I am really being put off by the negative reviews.

  8. Hi all my name is Nic and my partner is Ed. We moved to Wynnum from the UK 4 weeks ago and are loving the area. We just wondered if anybody fancied meeting up?We have 3 children aged 13, 12 and 3 next week. Quite an age range lol. I work full time at the PA hospital in Brisbane. Ed is not working yet. So if there are any families, mums, dads or peeps without kids that would like to meet up give us a shout. Cheers Nic :cute:
  9. I am reposting this questio as there is a problem with the links in my original thread and I am unable to see peoples' replies. I would be v grateful if you could try replying again..? The question is basically, how easy is it to get into CBD from Wynnum and how long does it take? Also, which is nicer, Wynnum or Manly? Thanks!

How far is Wynnum from CBD?

Hello It looks like my husband, I and our six year old daughter will be living in Brisbane for six months from September and are trying to find the ideal place to live. Ideal would be waterfront or sea front but not too big a commute for hubby to get to CBD. I have read that Wynnum is 15 minutes from city centre by car. Is that really the case? - because it looks like a nice place to live with a family - I especially want activities for my daughter and primary school. But not too far from central Brisbane for other stuff. Meanwhile I have also been looking at places near the river but am having a hard time figuring out the best ones, that have nice houses to rent, pref with a pool and a river view, are near good schools and the CBD but are family friendly and pleasant? Any advice on these two areas specifically - Wynnum and riverside - very much appreciated as we don't know Brisbane at all - the nearest we have been is Noosa, on a holiday (loved it!) Thanks!

    Weather in Wynnum

Hi there i was wondering if you know what the weather is like in wynnam west as i have family landing at brisbane airport thursday cheers mike
  14. HI there, we are just looking into areas in Brisbane and through looking at some of your threads, some websites etc it seems Wynnum would be a good area for us. We are a youngish family - me and my partner mid 20's and a daughter whos 1, so are after parks, safe areas, young families, playgroups etc. And also like the idea of the mini beach there. Also we are wanting to be kept busy where we go and hopefully not left twiddling our thumbs missing the UK. Also like restaurants/bars etc (but think we wuold have to go into Brisbane for this on the odd occasion??), or other like-families to socialise with after work etc (BBQS!) Does anyone know if Wynnum would be good for what we are after, are can you suggest anywhere else? Also what area of Wynnum is best - looks quite spread out? And how old are the properties here, can u get new builds?:jiggy: Many thanks if anyone can help, or good to hear from ppl with any advice.
