    priority wise

Hey guys! We visited tasmania last year and absolutely loved it. However, we have children who are teenagers and would be attending secondary school/college. How's the education system in tassie? Are there any good state colleges or should we think of moving to melbourne instead? Please share any of your experiances or opinions you may have, thank you!
  2. We're moving back to the UK at the end of August, and I want to get as much done whilst I'm here in terms of taxes, banking, etc and have it all tidied up as soon as possible. My last pay day will be 15th August I'll be due my annual leave payout on 15th Sept (25ish days worth) I'd like to withdraw my Super (am on a 457 visa) We'll be getting some money back for our rental bond (expected mid-Sept) We're selling our car before we go too, so do we need to declare/report that cash? Add this to our savings, and we'll have circa $100k to transfer back to GBP. I know I'll have to file an 11/12 tax return, and I've read that you can file a return part-way through the year if you're leaving. Do I have to show certain documents? My employer says that my 11/12 PAYG Summary won't be available until this time next year. Transferring all our money back to the UK would be ideal as we don't currently have plans return to Australia. Happy to wait until mid-Sept when the Super/paid holiday/rental bond is back in our account, but do I have to wait until this is done before filing a tax return? Will I have any issues transferring our savings back given that it's a relatively large amount? Should I split this? Would it be wise to leave a nominal amount of money in Aus? I've used OzForex in the past for transfers back to the UK - are they ok for this large-ish amount? Thanks - all help gratefully received. PS. Will try and see my accountant soon too for the 10/11 tax return, so will ask her a lot of these questions as well - and will post back in case this helps someone else in a similar situation.

    Geelong size wise

Hi. Could someone tell me how big is Geelong say compared to London or is it half size of the UK lol.
  6. Hi I am moving to Melbourne on a 176 visa ( application lodged 15/05/08 awaiting police and medical checks). I had my flat valued today for selling and letting. Letting won't be an option as rental will barely cover the mortgage after service charge and agent fees are paid so selling is the only option. I am thinking of selling now before the market slumps further and should have a lump of money c. 70,000 pounds to invest until I am ready to buy in Melbourne. I am not sure whether to stick it in the bank or to invest in a buy to let for awhile in Melbourne until I have arrived and am ready to buy exactly where I want to live. I understand there are tax benefits to this option and wonder if anyone has done this or has any views on it. Thanks Mel

is it wise to bring the car?

hi ,more info needed, thinking of taking my car to australia with us, it is a mazda 6 ts. 03 reg with only 29.000 miles on the clock. adore the car, but just want to know what the process would be and if anyone has done it.enqured into it, quote was 1,700. but it all got a bit confusing, can anyone tell me how long it would take to be shipped over, what import costs would be and all the other gargon involved. would it cost a fortune for insurance, and can parts be got easily for mazda 6s if anything goes wrong.any info would be really appreciated, or am i nuts to even think about it!!!!!!!!!!!!:err:
