  1. Hi Guys, I have a commercial aluminium window and door business in Queensland. Most of my work is based in Brisbane. I am looking for some experienced fitters/installers who are conscientious, loyal, hardworking and keen. We have a good order book and some excellent potential if I can get a good team around me. If anyone is interested let me know on here and I will get back to you Cheers Jon

    Windows 8 Upgrade

Microsoft Promises No-Hassle Windows 8 Upgrades HA - My first thoughts are have they altered the look and feel of Windows yet again in such a way that we have to relearn everything? We are looking at Apple machines for our next replacements, they seem to be very stable and are not subject to constant major changes in the way that their operating system works, they also have a very good support system. Apple have been opening their shops all over Australia, yes they did do this a few decades ago and Microsoft annihilated them but eventually Apple won the case receiving zillions in compensation which contributed to the resurgence of the company. We haven't made the final decision yet but have been making enquiries and will be following these up with more detailed questions. Our local store seems to have many Apple enthusiasts who speak English (Australian version), as a first language, if we have a problem we can just pop in and ask a real person for help, no more listening to inane recorded messages for twenty minutes before being connected to someone who can only say "tandu berry mudds" and does not have enough English words to string a simple sentence together. Yes Apple machines do cost a little bit more but they do seem to be of very high quality. They provide both training and support in the store when you buy a machine, these can be extended to three years for $129. Back on Microsoft, the cost of their upgrades seems to be increasing, haven't seen any prices for Windows 8 yet. The cost of PCs and laptops is dropping like mad to the point where it is much less hassle to go out and buy some new hardware with the latest operating system installed and all the bugs ironed out. Generally you get a twelve month warranty with new equipment and this can usually be extended for a reasonable fee. I know that most countries have legislation that in theory gives you much longer warranties but just try enforcing them, the authorities will not want to know you. The latest Windows machines seem to include a cut down version of Office which is more than adequate for most users, for years now they've been selling elaborate Desk Top Publishing systems that the majority of people never need, they only use a very small percentage of the features. Before we throw all our Windows equipment away would love to hear others debating this subject and giving their opinions particularly those who have been down this track or those who have experience of both systems.
  3. i have been looking on real estate websites at some of the houses (Townsville area) and notice that a lot of houses have security screens mentioned which i presume are the grill things on the windows and doors, what exactly are these? Also i notice some houses seem to have windows with no glass in, like a wooden louvre window, do they really have no glass in?

    Leaking windows...

Is anyone else having issues with leaking windows? We bought an apartment in Joondalup and for the past month and a half we've pretty much had builders in every day trying to fix our leaking windows. Every time it rains the water pours in through the windows and down the walls (not a problem I thought we'd have in Oz). The builders have even ripped 7 of our leaking windows out to re seal and replace them but they are still leaking!! They are now (as i type) drilling holes into the actual windows to let the water drain out as they are certain this will fix the problem but i'm not convinced. If anyone would like to know the company we bought our apartment through feel free to send me a PM

    Myer's Christmas Windows

Every year Myers, on Bourke Street Mall in the CBD, decorate their windows with a Christmas theme. They are pretty spectacular and definitely worth a visit if you have children. They are usually on until early January.
