  10. Hi - I was wondering what the current jobs situation is around Perth for Welders. I can look on Seek and on The West via the internet, but you can't really get a feel for what the current job market is like. Thanks
  11. Hey guys I know I no longer live in Oz but I was doing a job search for myself and came across this advert in our local paperwork and they are offering 457 sponsorship. Jobs at steelstruct-engineering | Find vacancies and apply online at http://www.jobsnortheast.co.uk/ We went over on a 457 visa and its a quick route into the country but I would recommend that you pursue the permanent route as soon as you get there are pitfalls to this visa, eg: 28 days to find a new sponsor if things don't work out. But its a great way to move over and see if you like it before you go for permanancy or just have an adventure for a couple of years like we did. We didn't use an agent to help us with the paperwork we just did it ourselves and saved ourselves some money. It was time consuming but fairly straight forward and we were there within 4 months. Good luck Sarah

  19. Hi I've just been reading on another thread that an electrician whose skills had already been passed by the Oz authorities, is having to undergo more tests in order to get a licence. I didn't want to hijack their electrician thread, so does anyone know if this is the case for welders? Hope not! Thanks Sheena
  20. Hi. i've been looking online at welding jobs in oz. the better paid ones appear to be in the mining industry. i have over twenty years experience as a welder fabricator and have just started a new job with VT Shipbuilders where i will be passing codings for solid wire butts and fillets, FCAW Butts and fillets, in vertical up, overhead and horizontal position. it may sound like a daft question but will these codes be of use in the mining industry, would i need to sit welding test in oz if i've recently pass the test in uk? any answers or even job offers would be very welcome. cheers.:err:
  21. Hello, my husband is a welder fabricator and we are hoping to move to WA in March 09. We have decided not to go for Perth as we are not city people but i am not sure if there is much work around for a Welder outside of the city. What do you think ? I have read threads about Bunbury/Mandurah and everything in between and they have afordable houses and good beaches. Do you think he will be able to find work ? Any advise about these areas would be great, thanks Dibs
  22. Hi I've been looking at job vacancies on Seek and have noticed that a lot of welding posts state "must have own tools". Just wondering if anyone can advise me what sort of thing they're after. thanks Tony
