Hi! My partner and I recently applied separately for WHVs (in the last week of February roughly), I'm from the UK, he is from the Rep. of Ireland. I got my approval through within 48 hours. However, after a week they asked him to supply a copy of his old passport (from when he was previously in Australia when he was 2yo). He did so, and they thanked him and said they can continue to process his application. Its now been 4 weeks, and the only time frame the bureau gave us was "weeks to months', before he gets a response. Additionally, I have also been to Oz before when I was younger, but was never asked for my old passport. Has anyone (from Ireland or otherwise) ever been in this position, and know when I can expect to hear back from them, or why his application has taken such a different route? They said they have no reason to reject his application, but theres some nervousness that makes me wonder why they are taking so long! We are very keen to book tickets, look for accommodation and start sending off CVs etc, but the wait means that everything is getting delayed (and more expensive) as we are planning on going in September. Thanks

we have given this move our all, and after trying and trying to make it work, it is plain to see that it never will, the culture change is just too much, i know we had to expect this and we did, but until you live somewhere you dont know how it will affect you, we moved to jimboomba six months ago, and we have never really settled, we have made a few friends mainly english people and enjoy the warm weather, but the weather is not everything. i tried making a list of what is better in oz and what is better in the u.k. and the only thing in the oz list is the weather. i think some people settle in better than others, and some peolple just hate it. i think terrible shops and supermarkets, getting up at rediculous hours to go to work, horrible food, expensive cars and expensive cost of living, having to travel so far for work, nasty insects and mozzies, and australian people with no sense of humour, have all taken there toll. i know as with most negative threads there will be a lot of anti negative thread attackers ready to jump on us, but we have tried it, hated it, and cant wait to get back to the u.k.

I think your all mad, you'll be back five minutes and realise what a dirty stinking dump the UK has become!! I was back for a holiday in August and everyone is miserable as sin........ Wild horses would not send me back, here I can go to the beach and walk in blazing sunshine.......back in the UK they'll stand in the pub all day, look at the pissing rain hitting the window and moan about the place....... That is half the problem with people emigrating to Aus, there here 30 seconds and want to catch up with English people and have there fish fingers and chips and beans and expect it to be the UK with sunshine.... Embrace the Aussie lifestyle not the English, this isn't the Algarve!!! Good luck if your returning, I wish it worked out for you but half the people on this forum who moan and groan I'm glad your leaving the place.........I can't argue when the Aussie's call us whinging poms, on here we are!!!! I'll wave you off from the Airport and return to a House I can only dream of in the UK, and kids leave their bikes on the front lawn all night.........where will you get that in the UK..........I don't even lock my car and I haven't heard a car alarm go off in two years!!!!

Hello everyone :cute: Although I've been a stalker on this forum for some time now to help me through the ordeal of getting my visa application together, I've just decided to actually join. I submitted my application on the 5th November 2012 for an onshore partner 820 visa (my fiance is an Aussie) in the Melbourne Lonsdale offices and I'm now sitting on a bridging visa while I wait... Anyone else in the same boat right now and if so, how long have you been waiting so far? Lou

856 visa, mandatory health check or wait for request?
doing a geographical posted a topic in Repealed and Closed Visas
Hi. I was wondering if anyone could help me with this one. On the 856 visa (perm ens) document checklist on the first page it says "do not undertake a health check unless requested to do so". But on the immi wesite in the health requirements section it says you need to do a medical for all permanent visas. Could anyone clarify if I take a medical in advance or not for the 856? Much appreciated. Doing a geographical -

We are going to send it by courier but was wonering if there is any point now this side of xmas? Im presuming DIAC will be closed for the xmas and new year period and our application could get lost amongst a heap of other stuff piled up not dealt with. what do you think, send as soon as it is ready, or wait till new year?

Thinking of buying a house in Mebourne. Do we buy now or wait?
Guest posted a topic in Renting & Real Estate
We moved over here in March 2010. It took us a while to settle and do our research but we've been ready to buy for the last three months. We put in an offer on a house recently but were just outbid (it was a really good one) when it went to last offers. We're still looking but nothing quite so good has come up yet. In the meantime I am watching a large number of properties hang around on the market for months and months. A lot of these are being substantially discounted before a sale is finally agreed. Auctions are performing abysmally and there's a possible GFC2 looming on the horizon. Add into this that China is possibly slowing down and the Aussie economy may not be in such a strong position as it was in GFC1.... My question is this..... What are peoples opinions on the likelihood of house prices coming down substantially. Should we keep renting and saving or should we buy in the next six months? Thanks Guys -
Hi All, So after waiting nearly four years our trade came back on the skilled list in july and our application is now moving forward. Getting excited but still have a mountain to climb yet !! Andy and Family

Hi everyone! We have decided to make the move. A friend of mine emigrated to Brisbane nearly 2 years ago and I have decided to do this while i still can. My dilemma is that i could get sponsorship 457 and live and work in kalgoorlie and get out there quite soon or i could wait and go skilled visa and live where i choose. I could apply for PR skilled while i am there living and working with my partner. I would plan to apply for PR skilled not long after i got there.. as kalgoorlie is not location of choice. What would you do? I have heard mixed oppinions about Kalgoorlie we are a youngish couple with no children. What are reasonable timescales for skilled visa application with and without migration agent - i could be in australia working while the process was happening.. any comments appreciated : ) This forum is great and i can see me usnig quite alot! :notworthy:

So where I work, the phones have been broken for about 3 days. My boss rang BT on his mobile yestarday to find out why the engineer they had prommised hadn;t turned up. Their response was; Wait for it: Oh, sir we have fixed the phone system. My boss said, so why didn't anyone tell us this? They said, well we tried to ring you to tell you, but your phones werent working!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA What a bunch of ninconpoops. X:arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh: P.S, So over 24 hours later, we still have no phones, and there has been no engineer, even though he was supposed to be here 3 days ago! As you can imagine, business has been really slow.

Hi, Does anyone know where in the processing chain medicals are requested? start, middle or end. I know on the DIAC website it say's 5-6 months for processing, but has anyone had their visa granted quicker than that? I have applied for the PMV. It is so hard being apart from the one you love:sad: Guess it was never going to be easy!

Hi all, I would like to share the good news with all in pomsinoz; my 2 year 4 months of wait is over. I have been on and off here, frustrated with the changes and all. Then one day, my mailbox shows I have the grant letter .... finally! My special thanks to Gollywobbler (who sadly no longer around the forums), Reza (for his information on adding de-facto/spouse), VickyMel , siamsusie pumpkin, GeorgeD, _shel and everyone else that I may have unintentionally left out for the support, encouragement and sharing their experiences here. My timeline: Date applied: 03 March 2009 s175 (MODL/SOL) Low Risk (LR) country Medical checked: 03 April 2009, police clearance done Priority changed Sept 2009, s175 given lowest priority Applied for NSW SS and granted: 10 Sept 2009, changed to s176 (cat2) Priority changed again, s176 and s175 priority goes further down (cat5) unless you are in CSL/ENS AU election ... everything on hold again ... ---looong wait ---- NSW election ... SMP on hold the longest of all states SMP out in 03 Mar 2011 - My occupation no longer listed ... (cat4 for having SS but not SMP) CO first contact: 03 April 2011 Asked for S80, F47A, de-facto evidence, spouse IELTS, etc Health check re-done, police clearance re-done Visa granted: 12 Jul 2011, must enter AU for validation by Dec 06, 2011 I guess I am the last few dinasours to be out ... 1 month short for Three Years of Overseas Work-apply Vetassess now or wait?
bananaisherb posted a topic in Visa Chat
I have all materials ready to submit my VETASSESS application, but I need another month before I can claim the 5 points for having three years of overseas work experience-apparently my work history only counts 2 years and 11 months-so do I submit my application to VETASSESS now? I suspect that by the time they start evaluating my application, I would have reached three years of employment. I have state sponsorship application on hold and needs the assessment result asap. What should I do? Thanks! -
Hi, sorry this would of been asked before but I need some up to date info please. How long is the waiting time if you apply for a spouse visa off shore (whist in UK)? Has anyone gone to Australia on a temp visa and then applied for spouse visa on shore (whilst in Australia). Would it be best to fill in visa application including the police check and then wait for the medicals to be requested? Thanks x Just remembered forgot to ask. My children have citizenship via descent as I was born in Australia. On my husbands visa application form it asks for the childrens australian passport numbers. I havent got the passports yet (as they expire within 5 years), but I do have the citizenship papers. Is it necessary to get the passports yet, I was going to get them when my husbands visa is granted.

Hi all, Though this is my first post I am a regular visitor of this forum. So, Hi! Today, I have got state sponsorship from WA. It took only 3 days from the date I applied to get the approval and I am really surprised by this super fast process. However, I am in a dilemma whether to apply to 176 with the current offer or wait till SouthAusi to open their SM plan. I am really confused because I like both the places. All the threads in pominoz which discussed Perth vs Adelaide have confused me a lot. I am from Sri Lanka, which has 25 c all day and night, super cool beaches, hill countries, Forests: all lovely spots accessible in 3 hours of car drive. I am moving just because I can upgrade my quality of life. At the same time I don't want to miss my lovely climate and nature of my country. (And of course food) I am an electronic engineer specialised in Firmware. And also I have experience in S/W as an indie freelancer. I think Perth will have more job opportunities for me. But, SA sounds like more closer to my Country's climate. I know I should sacrifice to get something, but I want to do that with some of your advice. Anyone who could give some advice, who could think with me for me? Thank you.
