  1. Hi, My partner and I have just received visa approval today (yay!) and are headed to the /Singleton / Maitland area in the next 6 weeks. The OH will be working in the mines and i'll be doing a bit of work from home and as we don't have any children I don't want to be rattling around the house all day! We are both looking to meet new people when we arrive so it would be great to hear from anyone who is on their way or already settled in this region of NSW. We're both from Staffordshire, almost 27 and frightened to death at the thought of being all alone in such a huge place so any help, advice or the chance to meet up for a glass of wine would be wonderful. Thanks, Sarah
  2. Hello again! Well it's all change - looks like we are now heading to The Hunter Valley and not Canberra after all! So, can anyone give me any info on the region. DH will be working in Singleton so we will be looking to live somewhere commutable to there. What is the climate like in that area? Warmer than Canberra in winter I expect....?? Where are the nicer towns/areas? We have two small children so any advice on schools would be handy too. Soooo excited as our permanent residence visa was approved today!!!!! Any info gratefully received:notworthy:
  3. Hey all! We are now at the stage of needing to book short term accommodation for our arrival in Brisbane. I've mainly been looking at Stayz, and there are 3 small apartments in Fortitude Valley run by the same owners that look quite good - fine for a couple, handy location, use of pool! I wondered if anyone on PIO had stayed in one and could share their thoughts? I don't want to book and find it's a noisy hell-hole! I suspect all the reviews posted on Stayz are a selection of the best. Link to one of the apartments is here http://www.stayz.com.au/65363

    Kangaroo Valley

I am just in the process of arranging a holiday for my parents and thought a couple of days in Kangaroo Valley would be nice. Has anyone ever been? Ideas where to stay that are reasonable (the two don't seem to go together there from what I can find). Must do/see things? Any ideas welcome. thanks Michelle

    Hidden Valley??

I have been looking for places to live that are within easy commute to St Kilda Road, which is close to Melbourne CBD. I have found some lovely houses in Hidden Valley which is north of CBD. 1 hour Commute which is ok. Does anyone know anything about Hidden Valley? I have 3 kids aged 15, 13 and 10 and I need to ensure that there are schools close by and that it is also a nice area to live. I have tried looking on Google but it doesn’t show much information. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  9. hello anyone lived / living at Cathedral Place, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane? Looks like a nice apartment block and one of the few to have furnished flats that are not prohibitively expensive lela
  10. We've finally had confirmation from new employers that we'll be located in Central Newcastle and Singleton/Muswellbrook area and have no idea of family areas where we could look to rent. While we're lucky that we'll be on 475 visa and all costs paid for for relocation, with 2 and 4 year olds we need family friendly areas with good transport links - and the usual Aussie lifestyle/outdoor stuff enarby? Any help much appreciated as it's all becoming very real - and very very daunting
  11. Anyone up for a night in the Valley on Sat 15th Aug? A few of us going out bout 9-10pm for a few drinks and a dance... Nic & Ste x
  12. Hi All, I have just returned from 3 weeks in Perth WA and would just like to promote "the Swan Valley Shuttle Service" . The service they provide i found to be excellent and a real good deal, especially as i found out that WA has now reached the dizzy heights of the UK's living expenses and surpassed on some items £5 a pint of Abbotts bitter eek. Please check it out; www.swanvalleyshuttle.com.au Cheers

    Hunter valley

I am thinking of moving to Gosford, as it is central for my horsey business. I was wondering if it was a town with a few bars etc, as I don't want to be totally isolated. If there are any other livelyish towns in the Hunter valley region can you advise me please.

    Lilydale & Yarra Valley

Hi guys, as with most of us, Im researching possible places to live near Melbourne. I wonder if anyone can tell me anything about Lilydale and Yarra Valley and surrounding areas, good and bad please. Oh will be working in the cbd. Thanks in advance. Mandisfam
  20. I recently went on a Scruffy Bunch Winery Tour to the Yarra Valley from Melbourne. I have to say it was an excellent experience. The guides were really wine savvy and had great relaxed approach to wine appreciation. Apparently they also do tours to the local breweries. I advise to anyone that likes wine to check them out.
