  1. Hi, long story, but my partner is heading off to Australia soon and i will be following ten weeks later. Well that is if he still wants me too? We will need to talk daily, just so i can keep my eye on him...... We have no UK landline, we will have no OZ landline. He will have a PAYG OZ mobile, not a smart phone, just a normal mobile phone, he is old fashioned. I will be based in the UK in the short term, i have a SKYPE account, and the software is downloaded and installed on my Samsung Galaxy smartphone. I have unlimited data useage with Giff Gaff, so no problem there with costs. I have not made any purchases through SKYPE, but i am pretty certain i can recieve calls from other SKYPE users for free. I may have to purchase a SKYPE local number, not sure, anyone help? He will be in Oz, he has a laptop, headphones, and a microphone via headphones. If he downloads the SKYPE software to his laptop, installs it, creates his own account. Buys a data dongle, (Vodafone), then buys a local SKYPE phone number. Will he be able to dial from his laptop in OZ, to my Smartphone in the UK, and only get charged for data useage via the internet, as no phone call charges will be charged; as the call goes direct through the net? Will we both have to buy local SKYPE numbers for this to work? Also can we set this up while we are both in the UK, to make sure it works? Thanks for any help............
  2. What's your standing in the Vocabulary Quiz?? http://www.merriam-webster.com/quiz/index.htm I got 3260 on the first try. Last one to kill a bad guy buys the orange juice  (Sorry, I don't do beer )
  3. I already said this in my arrival thread, but I thought I'd post it here too as I've seen some questions about it. This definately applies to smartphones (iPhones/Android), not sure how this applies to "normal" phones. My OH and I are both iPhone users and when we arrived it was crucial for us to get an Australian sim card so we'd have everything handy from our phone (internet access in particular - sorry we're those type of people whose lives depend on it!). We went into the Telstra shop (I can't recommend Telstra enough - avoid Vodafone at all costs, not sure about the others), and as we have unlocked phones we only needed a sim card, pay as you go preferably as this will avoid you racking up unexpected costs. So here's the deal: You can buy a sim card for $2 and then you top up for a certain amount (on the pre-paid cap+ tariff). Check the Telstra site for exact numbers. We chose to go for the $60 top up at least the first time as this would give us 3GB of data for the month and we'd be travelling around a bit and wanted to make use of Googlemaps and other data services extensively (we'll probably top up a little less for the next month). This would ofcourse also give you $60 of voice/txts for you to use. However, Telstra also gives you bonus minutes and for the $60 top up, you get $940!! on bonus for calls (if you top up less this amount goes down). The BEST thing of this is, you can use these bonus minutes for international calls, landline aswell as MOBILES. Basically you can call from your phone to home for free for quite a significant time. I've been calling my family on their mobiles for no cost at all and I don't think I'll even manage to use up all those bonus minutes For us this is a very good deal as we are heavy smartphone users and the price would be similar if you were to get a phone and pay monthly for it with a limited amount of minutes and you are stuck on a contract for xx months/years. Please note though, if you bring your phone from the UK it needs to be unlocked or your Aussie sim won't work with it (if you haven't bought your phone unlocked you mostlikely can call your carrier, explain the situation and they can unlock it for you - though if you break your contract with them, you may incur charges). Hope this helps for some of you
  4. A friend sent me this in an email-very funny I reckon. For All Female IT Users - New Software Releases INSTALLING A HUSBAND Dear Tech Support, Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewellery applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0. In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs such as Football 6.0, Cricket 5.1 and Golf Clubs 4.1. Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail, in fact Husband 1.0 seemed to slow even further. What can I do? Signed, Desperate. DEAR DESPERATE, First, keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system. Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme.html and try to download< /FONT> Tears 6.2 and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update. If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewellery 2.0 and Flowers 3.5. However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to< U> Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer 12.1. Please note that Beer 12.1 is a very bad program that will download the Snoring program as well as disable spell checker and voice recognition Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will try to seize control of all your operating system resources.) In addition, please do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0-program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0. In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider new software to improve performance. We recommend Cooking 3.0 and* Hot Lingerie 7.7. Tech Support
