  1. My wife recently had her teaching skills assesment back from teaching australia which came back unsuccessful. She was being assessed as a Secondary school teacher. She has been working in FE colleges (16+ years age group) for over 10 years now and is more than capable of teaching in secondary schools. She has a degree and Masters degree in her subject but the problem is that in Australia the secondary school years run from 12 - 18 and in the UK its 12 - 16. As my wife teaches 16 -18 year olds we thought she would fit into this category and have been told by various agencies that this would be fine. Teaching Australia didn't accept this because she completed her PGCE fulltime based on 16+ students. Is the only way round this for her to give up her 40k a year job to do another PGCE based on 12-18 or do a PHD and then get 3 years experience in a Uni? It seems like all people who have done this PGCE and have many years expereince are being turned away because it doesn't quite fit into the Australian education system. Surely there is something she can do in the evenings to enable her as qualified without doing a fulltime year course. PLEASE PLEASE help we are so deflated by this and are desperate to take our 1 year old daughter and 5 year old son to Australia. Is there anyone who has had the same issue or does anyone know how to get around this? Many many thanks for reading and any help would be greatfully appreciated. Jack & Laura
  2. Writing on behalf of my good friend- has just paid nearly 2000 quid to an agent to be told 'no' by SA for their state sponsorship program. She has been teaching primary in the UK for 8 years, holds a first class BA degree but went through the Graduate Teacher Training program, not the PGCE. Anyone/ any teachers out there know of a way around this, or if any schools are offering 457's at the moment? She is massively disappointed and rightly so- the agent did not at any stage inform her that she must have completed 4 years (not 3) higher ed in order to apply for the SA visa. Thanks all.
  3. I think it was even an old Transit - must have driven overland from UK? I've seen ice-cream vans around the 'burbs but usually they sell in bulk not by the cone (99?) He got a few customers too - but more 'groovy inner city types' than 'kiddie kids.'
  4. Hi all, I'm in a bit of a tizz about this (and I know it's a bit long, so sorry in advance), but any help or suggestions will be much appreciated. We're currently living in Denmark, and we'll be moving to Sydney soon, hopefully August/September-ish. We have a two year old Siamese neuter who'll be coming with us. After reading all the rave reviews here (and anywhere else I could find them) about PetAirUK, I thought we were set, and that his move would go smoothly, but, after my request for a quote, I received a reply from PetAir which said that they couldn't help. When I asked for clarification, I was told and she sent me to the IPATA website to look for a Danish company. Now, there is only one company here, and I had rather abortive contact with them last year, when I was arranging the export of a Siamese breeding queen from here to the UK for a friend of mine. I called them for a quote, and they asked me to send an email, which I did. When I got no response I called again a few days later and was told that they would be getting to it soon, but I never did receive a quote from them. My friend ended up driving all the way from the UK and back to pick up her cat! Now, maybe I'm being too harsh, but the thought of putting the complicated process of a move to Australia - not to mention my cat's life - in the hands of a company that couldn't even get themselves together enough to email a quote, makes me go :swoon:! So, now what do I do? I have managed to find this on the IPATA website, but it has left me even more confused: So, who is right (IPATA or PetAirUK), and what would you do? Has anyone here actually managed to go through a pet shipping company that wasn't in the country they were in, or were you turned down by the airlines? What should I do: try to find an Australian company who will do an import (or maybe another pet shipper), or is the Danish company my only option? TIA.

    Medicals and being turned down.

Has anyone been turned done at the medical stage? Just wondering what kind of medical issues might mean 'they' won't let people into Oz? None of my family have a chronic condition, but my kids do visit A and E a fair bit and I have suffered from a collapsed lung in the past, although have had surgery to repair it. What could we be turn down for medical wise, or if any restrictions might be placed on our visa? Given the seeming lack of visa's and the doctors able to perform medicals recently cut, is this another way to cull those who want to go to Oz? Tina, Family of Five

  9. Can anyone say if there is an upturn in employment in the construction industry in oz. Have read about most jobs available now than for last 15 months. Has Australia turn the corner(unlike UK). Are any construction or safety companies sponsoring at present?.I have contacted numerious but not got much of reply from them. There doesn't seem to be any hope for an upturn in UK so hopefully off to oz next year.
  10. My husband was made redundent on Friday the 13th. Well on Monday this week he had an interview with a company that is at the end of our road. we live in a small village with 1 shop, a garage, 2 pubs and a company that makes diving gear, so it is small. well he got offered the job and started work on Tuesday. he got 2 weeks pay redundency and had only been out of work for 1 week and 1 day so we are in pocket, plus he gets an extra 10p an hour and as an added bonus he can work to work so bye bye to one of the cars. Yippee  Had held off sending the TRA gonna get it in the post tomorrow.:nah: So to all of you that are looking for work don't give up and be cheeky
  11. Hello all, Hope you can help! We had a building inspection done on a property we are planning to buy. Of course nowhere is perfect but...Bad news, there's a termite problem. Trouble is, with termites you don't know how serious the problem is until you start taking the scenery to bits. So clearly we need to ask for money off, but how do we find out how much? Who do we call out? We're totally lost and today we've spoken to the realtor, solicitor, and the building inspector and we still don't know what to do? Any pointers or advice appreciated. Emigrating is never dull, is it??!!

    turned down by the TRA!

Hi everyone. It has been a while since my last thread. We just foound out we were turned down by the TRA. He has only on the job training and obviously we cannot use pathway d right now. We are a little upset, but I guess we will try again when pathway d is reinstated. Hopefully it will be. Thanks for all your advice. judy
  13. I am feeling very pessimistic about our visas. We applied online in September and had meds finalised in Jan. I have just read a thread of someone who got their visas already after applying online in September like us, but only had meds finalised in March- why? Are they going to turn us down? We have given everything they requested. Do people get turned down even if thay have enough points? None of it makes sense to me. It's just toooooooooooooooo stressful!!!!!
  14. As the title says I was tracking my medicals on royal mail, medicals were sent 9th October, on route to Australia. Tried tracking the lung specialists report which was sent 18th October, it said it was on route to PAKISTAN!!!!!!!!! I phoned the medical center, and they contacted the royal mail and they said it has been scanned in PAKISTAN!!!!!!!.Good old royal mail hey. All's I could do was laugh, the poor medical receptionist couldn't apologise enough, royal mail said wait until 3rd december to see if they forward it on to Aus!!!!!!!!!! thankfully she didn't listen to them and has re-sent it .
