    4WD Driving Trips

Hi, Moved to Canberra just over a year ago. We invested in a semi-capable 4X4 vehicle and have since met like minded locals who have taken us on excellent adventures around the local bush land, including the top of Mnt Coree. We've since spent a bit of money on getting the car a bit more capable and we plan to do more of the same. We tend to do this in small convoys, and enjoy a relaxing day out... the family really enjoy it, we get to see remote bushland, rivers and creeks all worth a visit. So if anyone else is interested or enjoys something similar and want to tag along or are already doing this and want to share experiences, let's chat.
  2. Hello all, I've just returned to Brisbane, after training as a teacher in the UK. I spent 2 years there and nearly ended up staying, but saw the light and returned to Brissie - just in time for the floods! I've always found the Aussies to be a friendly bunch but conversationally a bit hard going, as my knowledge of big engines, AFL and fishing is somewhat limited! I never thought about looking for like-minded Brits before, who might be up for a few beers and a bit of banter, as well as sharing costs of the occasional weekend trip down to the 'Goldie' or up the 'Sunny'. I like a bit of surfing every now and then, although as soon as I try and stand up you can tell immediately that I'm a Pom! :-o Any information on regular meet-ups in the area would also be appreciated. Look forward to hearing from you. Cheers, Matt.

    School trips in Oz ?

Hi, Just thinking ahead and realising my 6 year old will miss out on his week long residential school trip that my 8 year old daughter will do in May 2012. Just wondering if Oz schools do many school trips and especially any residential ones. I'm talking state schools BTW  Cheers:biggrin: Justin
  4. Hi everyone, We are wondering about emigrating to Oz. My husband says the only way he would do it is if he could go back and visit family twice per year. The idea is that we all go once per year (me, husband and 3 kids) and he goes alone once per year. I am just wondering if this is realistic. We're not particularly well-off financially, and then there is obviously the upheaval of such regular trips to consider. How often do you guys go back to visit? Is it often enough???
  5. Hi, My 8 year old will be going on a week long residential trip to a local study centre next March and were just thinking my 6 year old will miss out on this if we emigrate next year. Do Aussie schools do similar residential trips ?
  6. Eeeck! My mum announced on the phone the other night that she has her bags pretty much packed and is looking forward to visiting. Then, jokingly (I hope ) said that it is pointless travelling so far for a short holiday and she is planning on 3 months. 6 weeks was also mentioned but I was still gasping for breath and trying to sound as if I was talking normally after she said 3 months so I am not sure if that really was the time she was thinking. We are not even there yet! Se is planning to come before Dec, and are plans are to be living in a 1 bed flat if poss to save money until we know where we are working. That didn't phase her said she be fine on the sofa! So the question - does Oz do those 2-5 day coach trips often aimed at the older ladies where you go off and see some sights for a while. She loves them in the UK just wondered if I might be able to reduce my stress levels during the visit by sending her on a couple of those. Vicky

    Reccie Trips Question?

Hi all, I am a long way off moving to Oz yet but was just wondering about reccie trips. A lot of people seem to be doing reccie's & validating visa then coming back to UK before moving permanently. When we get our visa (or if) we are just planning on selling house, cars, etc. etc. and getting out there to validate and permanently stay. Can this be done? Or do you have to validate and then leave and go back again? May sound like a daft question but just don't know. We have already been to Oz for a holiday in 2008/09 and visited Perth, Port Douglas in Qld and Sydney so have seen a bit of oz already. Cheers Claire

    Day trips from Sydney

Can anyone give any good recommendations for day trips out of Sydney? I have a motorbike and would like to ride somewhere ideally with a lagoon, or some kind of lake for swimming/bathing, or to somewhere with no waves to relax/waterfalls etc. Is this asking to much for a 1-2hr drive out of the city? The nearest place to this was the National Park just over the water from Palm Beach which was great. There's a secluded lagoon there, can't remember the name...

    Aussie road trips

I've been making my way down to Bathurst for the v8 supercars today, managed to clock up just over 1000ks today and am now sitting in a motel room in Dubbo central NSW. Darn its been an awesome drive, not many places you can drive all that way and during the course of 11 hours driving only spend 30 mins of it stuck in traffic and that was driving through brisbane (stupid sat nav). If anyone needs a reminder of how amazing thios country is just jump in the car for a long weekend and clock up a few 1000ks :notworthy:

    Trips out to the wineries?

Well so far everyone on this site has been brilliant, my laundery is sorted and I'm trying out all sorts of fish recipes (With Plenty of Ginger!!!) My Oh and I are in South Australia which is famous for its wine of course and we want to visit some of the local wineries. Before we came out I was watching a TV programme about a train that does wine tours out to the Barossa, but I didn't get the details. We would love to go on a tour and picked a leaflet up today but the company only takes groups of up to four people. If anyone has been on a tour or could recomend a company I would really appreciate it. Montyx
