  1. Hello all, I’m new to the forum so hello to start! I’m moving to Perth in May this year with my girlfriend who’s from Perth. Ive lived there previously for two years on WHV’s. I’m a tiler by trade and want to bring my main tools with me. A manual tile cutter, a dewalt combi drill with two lithium ion battery’s, a dewalt laser level with one lithium ion battery and two spirit levels. All items are in separate secure boxes/cases. What I’m wondering is, does anyone have any experience of shipping simular items and what company’s did people use? I also have about 2 or 3 large suitcases and two push bikes I’d like to ship over. I’m not being lazy I have searched the forum looking for information on this. I heard through the grape vine you cant ship drill battery’s for some reason so any information regarding this would be great. Thanks so much in advance : )

My OH has many years experience and currently runs his own business. We have contacted as few contractors and sent them pictures of my OH's work - They have said they are very impressed and may have work available when we arrive in Perth but are not in a position to offer sponsorship. New to PIO

Hi All, I've just joined this site this week after my OH said ' Let's move to Australia' - Somehow I don't think it's going to be quick or simple! We have both been travelling to Oz before and had a great time so why not go back there... We also have a little boy now and would love to give him a better life. My OH is a Tiler by trade and has many years experience but no qualifications. I have done a bit of research and I know his occupation is on the SOL so there is a chance we may be able to get a visa. We are hoping to move to Perth and have been looking into state sponsorship from the WA Government, however, their website says we don't have enough 'points' but other websites say we do - Confusing:goofy:. Think i'm definately going to have to use a migration agent for help with this! Any recommendations? We are going to attend the Down Under Live expo in September which I'm hoping will be useful. Has anyone ever been to one of these and are they any good? Will probably go and overload myself with information! Sue x

  13. Hi, My name is Lara and I work for the BBC. I am currently researching for a series called 'Wanted Down Under', which is broadcast on BBC1. I just thought I would write a thread to see if anyone was interested in getting involved. I am looking for some quite specific groups of people to have a chat to about their move to Adelaide, Australia. I am looking for Welsh families that have come here to start a new life. I am also looking for a British self-employed wall and floor tiler that has started their own business here in Adelaide. I would love to hear from anyone from these areas or who might know of someone as I have described. With thanks and hope to hear from you soon, Lara Bickerton Adelaide Fixer BBC - Wanted Down Under
  14. Hi, My husband is in the process of having his skills assessed so he gets the AQF111 in Wall and Floor tiling and has been working for himself for 15 years, so he can apply for the TRA through route E. If anyone one who has recently done this for this trade recently give us any assistance ie examples of references and what to put in for the training period ie informal apprenticeship and how much detail they want etc. We have his Accountant's letter to send up, Tax return forms (Sc60's)etc as my husband has kept 6 years in total, suppliers references he has 3 he can send up, he can show his public liability schedule etc. Material receipts advertising receipts, Pictures of his work. We are hoping to try to submit with out an agent to save on money etc so. . Does he also have to do a Stat Declaration on what he does etc? Is there any thing else he needs to send up. Any help would be much appreciated. We hope to go to the Gold Coast in under 2 years. Is there any tilers now in Brisbane/Gold coast and how is things. Tiler or carpet fitter?

Hi everone, I only found this site yesterday but seem to have spent the last 24 hours reading through all the forums, with some real interesting reads. My situation is this.I'm a 40 year old guy from Llandudno in Wales, presently working is a cab driver in London.I married an Adelaide girl 2 years ago,and we're looking at moving to Oz in 2-3 years. We would go where the work is,but would prefer Melbourne as our first choice, and probably Adelaide second. I would like to learn a trade over here first before coming over, but which one? I had thought tiling, there is an intensive 8 week course near me which is recommended, and at the end of it the huge tiling firm which run it will give me a job.I would then work here for a couple of years to get experience and then come over with my wife. After reading the job forum on this site,i see that carpetfitters are in demand and can earn a good living.Do tilers earn as much? and are they in demand?because maybe trainto become a carpetfitter instead. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Ste
