Less than 4 weeks til we go - eek!

So much to do, so little time! The past few months have really flown by, and I anticipate the next 26 days will go even faster. I'm keeping an Excel spreadsheet with a 'to do' list, happily ticking things off every day. Still have tons of forms to fill in for shipping, letting, tax blah blah. Sorted landlord insurance and cancelled normal house insurance, cancelled o2 contract, cancelled Virgin Media. Phew! Hubby left work yesterday so can take over getting rid of junk. I leave Thursday next week, and am already emotional having said goodbye to colleagues who've gone on leave. Gonna be in bits next week! Will be adding loads of facebook friends ) Next weekend going to Berlin, a trip that was organised before Australia was on the radar! Followed by 3 days of getting ready for the shippers. Shipping out 14th October. Family (hubby's) leaving party 15th October, followed by meals out with folk who won't be there. Goodbye trip the following week to Liverpool (where I lived for 16 years) and see my wee brother in Yorkshire plus a diversion to Manchester to see Glen Campbell on his farewell tour! Then we have 5 days at our sparsely furnished home to finish cleaning, painting and packing. Then... 5 days of pure relaxation in LA en route to Brisbane. Gonna need that! And after a direct 14 hour flight from LA to Bris we'll have finally made it. Arriving early morning, we'll be going straight to temp accommodation. Well worth paying an extra night not to hang around! And then I guess we start normal life - grocery shopping, househunting etc. Just needed to get that off my chest - it actually helps to get it all written down

    2months 'til arrival in WA

Hi! I would appreciate any advice on what I need to be doing in the next 2 months before I arrive in WA. How long should i allow for health records to be available? Who do I need to contact for transferring my pensions, so that they arrive when I do? Any other tips would be most helpful Thanks, Penny
  4. 176 eVisa has been lodged. Case Officer has been assigned. Supporting docs have been uploaded. Had an email from CO confirming that everything we have sent to date is sufficient and that our application will be put on hold until after our baby is born at the end of Sept. If anyone else has been through a similar process, could you share with me roughly how long afterwards did the process take. We plan to register her birth asap. Does a birth cert alone suffice or will we need to get her a passport as well. Once we've notified our CO of her birth, I will then be able to go for my medicals & we'll submit our police checks at the same time. How long should it take after that to get an answer. Cheers
  5. Hello All For anyone thinking of travelling to Europe before end of March 2012 may want to consider this offer: http://www.malaysiaairlines.com/au/en/deals/deals-of-the-day.html The arrival times and layovers up to 7 hours aren't necessarily ideal, but the price is hard to beat! Better (or at least more popular) times are more expensive, as you'd expect. There are blackout periods, but I found that the advertised prices were available for all of the various dates I tried! I've ended up with SYD-AMS return for under $1300. Sarah
  6. We should finally get our camper through compliance and registration on Monday! WooHoo! after 3 weeks of delays:mad: Ive had to do some more bloomin modifications to it, in 37degC heat, which was sweaty to say the least! But, fingers crossed, its good to pass now. I have to admit, he's looking a little bit sexy in the Australian sun:biggrin: (will post a sexy beach shot on Monday) For all you petrol heads out there, here are a few pics!

SA SMP not til after Xmas

OH checked SMP updates this morning, his daily routine before he even gets out of bed! Tasmania's SMP has been released followed by a comment from a forum website which stated that South Australia have confirmed they will not release their SMP until "after the holiday period?!?!" Has anybody else heard anything about this? I have sent an email to Immigration SA asking them if they are able to confirm or deny this.... I really don't understand why it is taking so long, it will be nearly time to release the next set of SMP'S before they release this one... Do they bring a new one out every year? I mean the new points system comes into effect in July of next year, those of us waiting for SA & NSW will barely have enough time to lodge our application at this rate!! Come on Hurrry Up!!!

    Working 9 'til 5

WARNING....RANT ALERT!!!!! 'Working 9 'til 5' What a joke!!!!!!!! Hubby is an Accountant and currently working as a Group Financial controller in the information technology sector. He has an hours commute to and from work, sets off for work in the mornings at 7am and never gets home until after 8pm (most of the time its later) On top of that he has to go to London usually 2 days a week! Me and the kids barely get to see him, and when we do see him of a weekend, hes absolutely shattered!!!! Its no good for the kids, no good for me and more importantly no good for my hubby! The only thing that is keeping us going is the fact that we are hoping to make the move down under in July. Will the expected working hours be any better there???Who knows, maybe someone can advise. OK rant over!!! Melanie x

How long til we chase for visa?

I have read with joy (and no small amount of jealousy) the posts from others who have had their visas since the 1st July. It does seem as though the 175s in particular have picked up again. But there are many of us still waiting even though we know everything is ticked off / finalised / hopps jumped through. My question is.. how long do we wait til we ask our agent to chase? I have already told work that I'll be handing in my notice as soon as I have the visa, and I'm now sick of being asked 'no news?' 15 times a day! [Do I *look* like I have just had that fantastic news???] We had planned to fly out early August, and I'm starting to be quite tempted to resign now, and cross fingers that the visa comes in the next couple of weeks. Blah!!!!

  15. You're not an Australian 'til... - You've mimicked Alf Stewart from the TV show Home and Away's broad, Australian accent, eg. "push off, ya flamin' drongo!" - You've had an argument with your mate over whether Ford or Holden makes the better car! - You've done the "hot sand" dance at the beach while running from the ocean back to your towel. - You know who Ray Martin is. - You start using words like "reckon" and "root" and call people "mate". - You stop greeting people with "hello" and go straight to the "how ya doin'?" - You've seriously considered running down the shop in a pair of Ugg Boots - You own a pair of ugg boots. - You've been to a day-nighter cricket match and screamed out incomprehensibly until your throat went raw. - You kind of know the first verse to the national anthem, but don't know what "girt" means. - You have a story that somehow revolves around excess consumption of alcohol and a mate named "Dave". - You've risked attending an outdoor music festival on the hottest day of the year. - You've tried to hang off a clothesline while pretending you can fly. - You've had a visit to the emergency room after hanging off the clothesline pretending you can fly. - You own a pair of thongs for everyday use, and another pair of "dress thongs" for special occasions. - You don't know what's in a meat pie, and you don't care. - You pronounce Australia as "Stralya" - You call soccer soccer, not football - You've squeezed Vegemite through vita wheat to make little Vegemite worms. - You suck your coffee through a Tim Tam. - You realise that lifeguards are the only people who can get away with wearing Speedos. - You pledge allegiance to Vegemite over Promite. (DEFINITELY) - You understand the value of public holidays. - Your weekends are spent barracking for your favourite sports team. - You have a toilet dolly. - Your Mum or Nan made it. - You've played beach cricket with a tennis ball and a bat fashioned out of a fence post. - You firmly believe that in the end, everything will be ok, and have told a mate in tough times that "She'll be right, mate" - You use the phrase, "no worries" at least once a day. - You've been on a beach holiday and have probably stayed in a caravan. - You constantly shorten words to "brekkie", "arvo" and "barbie" - You've adopted a local bar as your own. - You know the oath of mateship can never be limited by geographical distance. - You measure a journey in beer, not kilometres or time. (That's a 3 beer trip mate). 'ave a nice day, cobba
