    Student Occupational Therapist

Hi, I'm retraining to be an Occupational Therapist, I'm 34 and want to move to Australia as soon as possible once I qualify in July 2010. My partner works in website managment and editing. I'm not sure whether to wait until I'm qualified and try and get sponsored or apply now for residency. Any advice would be much appreciated! I'd be really interested to hear from any OT's already working in Australia. Thanks x
  2. Hello all, I moved over to Perth with my partner who is doing a bricklaying course & managed to get a job as a massage therapist in a Chiropractic clinic. I really enjoy my job and am finally doing what I want to do which I couldn't do in UK. The problem is registering my qualifications with the Massage Associations here so clients can claim money back through their health providers. I wasn't told about this by my immigration company and the clinic workers told me to get in contact with the AAMT (Australian Association for Massage Therapists). The workers at the AAMT were very helpful but explained I needed to get my qualifications verified by the registered schools in my area but the schools don't want to know! They either want money to view my work but if I don't meet their requirements I have to enroll in their modules at $600 each (I feel this is a way of making more money) or others never call me back! I am getting really disheartened by this as I feel I have already gone through my training, have certificates & my clients are happy with what I do for them yet I cant get registered!!! I am also a member of an association in UK who can vouch for my qualifications but the Associations & schools won't accept that either! I feel I keep hitting a brick wall with this and I would give up if my bosses weren't the ones pushing this. Any advice would be really appreciated and thank you for taking the time to read this (I know its a bit long winded!) Clarey x

Anyone know a decent Speech Therapist

My son aged 4 has been on a waiting list for speech therapy for 9 months. He went for his first appointment today and they told us that because we moved out of the area 2 weeks ago she would not see him! So we have to start all over again. It looks like we may have to pay for private speech therapy. Does anyone on here have any experience of one in the Geelong area thats any good? We would happily travel for a decent one? Or does anyone use a government funded one in the Geelong area? Our son has trouble pronouncing certain words. Its seems ridiculous to me to refuse to see him after he has lived in the area the entire time he was on the waiting list.

  19. I am currently re-training as a Holistic Therapist and my qualifications in massage are NVQ level 3. I am aware of the Australian 'Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice' which is required in Oz to work in this profession however I wondered if anyone had made the move to Oz and had their UK/other qualifiactions assessed against the australian certificate. Is there anyone who is working in this profession either in a salon or working from home that could advise the way ahead with regards to qualifications etc? Any help appreciated.Thanks.
  20. Hi, I qualified as an Occupational Therapist last year and I am hoping to move to Australia this year however I am finding applying for jobs difficult as I am unsure where to start. Is there anyone that can help?! Thanks
  21. Hi, We already live on the Gold Coast on a PR visa but now the wife's sister would also like to join us. She is 36 and a recently qualified massage (and spa) therapist with a small amount of post qual experience. We have been looking at the Occupational Trainee Visa Sub Class 442 and have been advised that this would be a good route to take in order to get some time out here and Oz experience/quals with a view to make a move to a permanent visa at a later date. Has anyone on PIO had any success in using the 442 in paid training and subsequent PR status? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, including other visa ideas which don't require huge amounts of cash. We would also like to hear from anyone who can assist in getting a sponsor for the 442 in the Gold Coast/Brisbane regions. Thanks
  22. Hello. I am an occupational therapist working in mental health in the UK. I have been lucky enough to obtain a job working in the community in Launceston. We are in the process of tying up things here in the Uk in preparation for the big move. I know it is subjective, but can anyone give me a their view on any of the following: Living in or near Launceston (good/not so good areas to live). We currently live in a 200 year old property in a small village, 10 mins from a larger town and 45 mins from a city. Also does anyone have any views on working in mental health or working as an OT in Launceston or Tasmania? I have visited Tassie in 2010 for a week and loved it. We spent an afternoon in Launceston and stayed few days at Beauty Point. Thanks everyone
  23. Hi I am looking into ways to move to Adelaide in South Australia to join my brother, who is also from the UK however is now an australian citizen. I am a personal trainer in the UK and am planning to also gain a massage /sports massage qualification. I notice on the SOL I could apply for a General Skilled Migration visa as a Massage Therapist 3125-11, which attracts 40 points, assessed by VETASSESS however I am looking for advice in relation to whether it would be better to obtain the qualification in Adelaide first under a study visa, and if so what course / qualification would stand me in better stead, or whether to obtain the qualification before I apply for the General Skilled Migration visa, and if so what would be an AQF Diploma equivalent qualification. I hope the above makes sense and I am very grateful for any advice or assistance anyone could give . Suzi

Hiya, I am trying to find out a few things...... I have NVQ and BABTAC certs, in beauty therapy... Are these u.k qualifactions recognised in Australia? If not, how do I go about getting these converted? If they are recognised, how does this sit with the insurance side of things? I am wanting to do this from home and mobile. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.... Brummies wifey xx
