    Rsms question

I received my rsms visa mid January 2012, I have 2 and a half months on it before I reach my two years but my circumstances at work have changed. I am now working different hours to what we agreed on which is effecting my home life. I do overtime daily, the work load has at least tripled and the stress of the job is now effecting me to the point that I have been booked off with stress leave. My dr is happy to write a letter confirming how it is effecting me as well as a therapist I was sent to. I would like to hand in my notice at work and start my and company instead. I was wondering if this was possible firstly and if I got another job in the meantime do I have to stay within my field? thanks, Nikki
  2. My husband flys to Perth on the 3rd Jan and has 10 nights booked in a hotel in central Perth. He's not sure what to do after this as short tem lets don't seem to be economical for 1, so he thought it would be best to look for flat share whilst he is in Perth. Myself and the rest of the family will arrive later (March?) once Jon has a job or our house sells. Given it will take a few months to get the furniture shipped I assume we will need to get a short term let then a long term let. The kids are 8 and 6 so will be in school when we are in the short term let - but I was hoping not to have to move them when we rent long term. How did you get on with this? If we are booking the short term let only a month ahead of arriving what if we just end up settling where we can get a place to stay.

    AQF in simple terms

Im a plasterer (solid) renderer or internal work, got the visa, but I want to know about getting my AQF (I need it to start work, dont I). I cant just swap it for my city and guilds or am I wrong. What else do I need in simple terms.Ta.
  4. Hi All Hope someone can help or had experience of this and can give me benefit of their experience. My husband has a job offer in Perth so our visa application was lodged on 1st July (yay!!) We have included our 2 children on the visa aged 17 & 19yrs. My 19 year old is at uni and adamant that he will not be coming to live in Australia with us and the migration agent has told us we have 6 months from grant for him to validate. The 17 year old can't make up her mind but I guess the question would apply to her should she not come with us. Once he has validated the visa does he have until my husband's visa ends if he changes his mind and wants to come over? If we apply for residency how does this effect the kids on the visa if they are not living with us at the time? My guess is they would then not be able to come out as the original 457 visa would have been changed to a residency visa? If they are not dependent would they be able to come out on a family sponsored visa? Any advice would be great thanks Candice
  5. Hi everyone, Is it normal for a company to pay 25% of an hourly rate as a bonus and if the employee leaves within the two years then that 25% has to be paid back to the company? I have heard that relocation, flights and visa costs being repaid but this 25% would far exceed such costs and in this case the relocation isn't being paid! It would be great to hear from anyone who has this nature or similar clause in their contract of employment. Thanks
  6. Hi everyone! Would be great if someone could tell me whether the following terms of employment are standard for Construction Professional on 457 sponsorship: > 20 days holiday > 38 hours a week (city based location) > Tied in for 2 years, if you leave within the 2 years you have to repay visa costs + 25% of the annual salary as a lump sum > No relocation costs paid for - just flights > Taking leave in between projects not when required > Employee responsible for providing own computer equipment > Paid hourly as opposed salary Cheers!
  7. Had a look and couldn't find any other threads. Can anyone offer up a quick overview on the general package that you get down under in full time employment. So for example in the UK you get £243 Child care vouchers 20 (ish) days holiday per year. 8 Bank holidays + 1 for a Royal wedding, gawd bless 'em :biglaugh: Contributory pension around 6% per month. Just trying to build up a picture at the moment as all the adverts seem to say is the salary + "Great package"

    Bridging Visa terms??

Hi guys, I'm currently in Australia on a WHV (in which i can work for my employer for six months) and my partner and I are about to apply for a defacto visa. I've heard somewhere that once you apply for the Visa, and get your bridging visa - the bridging visa is under the same terms as the previous visa you were on when you applied. (does that make sense?) So my question is... will i be able to work for another six months with my employer, once we have put my permanent residency application in?! Sorry if this is confusing!
  9. Hi, Once we got our visa (175) approved it said: Your visa is valid until: 23/06/2015 You are allowed to make: Multiple entries to and from Australia during the validity of your visa You must not arrive in Australia after: 02/03/2011 Your period of stay is: Indefinite What will happen after 23/06/2015? Do we need to do something before this expiry date??? Cheers B!K3R
  10. There's a nice series on Radio 4 at the moment about Poms who have moved to Oz - and their views on the country. Listen here... BBC - BBC Radio 4 Programmes - I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Into Here, Episode 1 Enjoy!
  11. Hi All, I am seeking advise regarding my current situation. We have been renting a brand new house in Sanctuary Lakes for the past month. One of the main points for taking the house was a fibre optic connection. However, due to problems with the builders this has still not been installed. I had arranged for connection for the week we moved in, however, the Estates People informed me that they couldn't connect due to the cabling box not having been fitted. The property manager has tried to get things sorted, however, it appears as though the builders have buried the cables under the house. They don't want to dig it up and now want to employ specialists to retrieve the cabling. This is now 4 weeks into the lease, we cannot get TV, Internet or a phone line. We are having to rely on mobiles and a 3G dongle, you all know how good they are. I just don't know where I stand, and have no idea who to contact as to what my rights are. We paid 6 months rent up front and feel that because of this we have no leverage against the landlord to get it sorted. My family are feeling very cut off from home, one call home to my Daughter for an hour ran up a bill of $130. We cannot keep paying these fees just to keep in contact with family and friends back home. We really like living here and don't want to face the prospect of moving again, and I am not even sure what our rights are. Not sure if you can classify Phone, internet as essential services. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  13. When talking about money in the UK, it's very common to say fiver in place of £5 and tenner in place of £10. Are these terms in use in Australia/New Zealand? Also, is there a slang term for the Australian dollar (buck?) as there is for the UK pound (quid). Cheers! Simon

    Rental terms help

Hello, Can anyone tell me if we sign a 13 month rental agreement in Oz but during this time decide to move will that be easy to do? We have found a rental and looks perfect location, house etc but the landlord wants 13 months and we were planning on 6 months. We know it is a tough time of year so we are not sure whether to bite his hand off or wait? Thanks
  15. Hi I am new to this site, so apologies in advance if I haven't posted in the right place, way, etc. I really could do with some advice. My husband has just been granted his Australian citizenship (by descent) and we are in the process of applying for a partner visa for myself and our two kids(14 and 11) We are going to Brisbane(which is where we plan to settle!) Easter 2010 to validate the visa and make plans to move, etc. Originally we were looking at moving over after our eldest takes her GCSE's but realise now that the schooling system is totally different and GSCE's aren't recognised. What I wondered was if she is 16 in Feb 2011 and we came after her GSCE's, say Summer 2011, what would happen regards her school...would she go into year 11 that year or would she wait until the following year? If we decided to come over before her GCSE's, how does the school year work in terms of birthdays.? Would she be better not doing her GCSE's and coming over to join Year 11 at the start of 2011(when in affect she would still be 15) or would she then be in Year 10,in which case she may as well do her GCSE's and wait to join year 11 but then she will probably be the oldest in the year as she will be 17 the month after term starts:wacko: I just feel it is so sad for her to have to go through all the stress of GCSE's for them not to count and wonder what is the best option. I hope I am making sense as I am a little confused by the schooling system. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Pam
  16. Hi , Now i am probably going to sound like a really dumb blonde in asking this question , but here goes, Hubby has been offered a 457 sponsorship visa, now we are in the process of getting all the paperwork together, but i dont want to commit to anything until i know most of the facts etc on the 457 and the LAFHA so here goes, if say hubby is on $55,000 per annum and we can get LAFHA on renting and food allowance now does this mean hubby will get extra in his wage packet each week or not is basically what i want to know! sorry bit blunt but thats what we need to know. We are a family of 6, me , hubby and 4 kids all under 10 , so a yes to this question would be a real +++ for us thanks for looking michell

    Leaving family on bad terms?

Hi Everyone, At the risk of sounding really nosy I was wondering whether anybody has emigrated and left on bad terms with family or close friends? The reason I ask is that we are leaving in less than 3 months and we haven't been on speaking terms with my father-in-law for the best part of 2 years now. He is aware that we're leaving yet hasn't been in contact. Personally I couldn't give a monkeys as he is a complete tosser and caused us nothing but stress and upset but I'm trying to put my feelings to one side and think of my o/h....it's extremely unlikely that his father would ever visit Oz and therefore there's every chance that my o/h may never see his father again. My o/h says he doesn't care but I really don't want him to have regrets about things once we're in Oz. Has anyone else been in this position and what did you do? Likewise is anyone in a similar position and what are you thinking of doing? Cheers guys
  18. People often ask for a simple explanation of Marketing - Here it is: You're a woman and you see a handsome guy at a party. You go up to him and say, "I'm fantastic in bed." That's Direct Marketing. You're at a party with a bunch of friends and see a handsome guy. One of your friends goes up to him and pointing at you says, "She's fantastic in bed." That's Advertising. You see a handsome guy at a party. You go up to him and get his telephone number. The next day you call and say, "Hi, I'm fantastic in bed." That's Telemarketing. You see a guy at a party, you straighten your dress. You walk up to him and pour him a drink. You say, "May I?" and reach up to straighten his tie, brushing your breast lightly against his arm, and then say, "By the way, I'm fantastic in bed." That's Public Relations. You're at a party and see a handsome guy. He walks up to you and says, "I hear you're fantastic in bed." That's Brand Recognition. You're at a party and see a handsome guy. He fancies you, but you talk him into going home with your friend. That's a Sales Rep. Your friend can't satisfy him so he calls you. That's Tech Support. You're on your way to a party when you realize that there could be handsome men in all these houses you're passing. So you climb onto the roof of one situated towards the centre and shout at the top of your lungs, "I'm fantastic in bed!" That's Junk Mail. You are at a party; this well-built man walks up to you and grabs your ass. That's the Governor of California. You like it, but 20 years later your attorney decides you were offended. That's America!

    School Terms

Hi All I have a question with reference to the school year in Oz. We are looking at Melbourne, my daughter turned 13 on 8th August this year and I understand the school year starts in January time! (am I right?) So my question is when we make the move is the Australian school year in front of the UK's or behind? Hope this makes sense!!! :twitcy:
  20. OH joining the submarine service and its taken us a year!!!! What an uphill struggle, but recieved the terms of service last night. Thought we were going to Perth but found out we have to go to Melbourne for 6-12 months. Have done no research on Melbourne at all, so feel at a bit of a loss. Hopefully the immigration and visa process won't be such an uphill struggle. Any advise would be gratefully recieved.
