  1. Hi There, I am new to this site, so please bare with me if I am repeating previous posts. I passed my TRA on 4th May 2009 - Supervisor, Communications Tradespersons 4316-01 But I have been told that my application for a 176 Skilled visa is on hold for the forseeable future. I have been advised to now try and apply for: Telecommunications Network Planner ANZSCO 313213. I have worked for BT since school and I am now in my 25th year. I hold the position of Fibre Planner. I have read the criteria, to create a CDR for my position but I am having problems in getting all the information that they require onto paper. Please if anyone can give me some pointers it would be very much appereciated. My family (wife and 2 children) are so desperate to get out to Oz. My brother and his family have been residents for 3 years now and my Mum and Dad have been out there for nearly 9 months, and we so want to join them. Once again, if anyone could help us we would all appreciate it ever so much. Regards.
  2. Does this fit your qualifications or anyone that you know? Now recruiting... Sales Engineer (Fibre Products) - http://www.workplacelink.com.au/job-search/
  3. Hi there, We're currently gathering everything to submit our Visa to move to WA but the skill we were using for an AQF qualification has just been taken off the list! Argh! We're now wondering whether to apply for another state, ie Victoria, Southern or Northern but WA is really where we want to be as our family are already settled there. Is there anyone else having the same problem or can anyone recommend where else is good to move for telecommunications work? We'd even consider fly in, fly out from WA if that was acceptable! Many thanks for any help! :cute:

    TRA Telecommunications

Hi people I am currently in the process of applying with global visas and have come to the point where they have stated i need to get my skills assessed by TRA My concerns are that my qualifications which are vendor specific may not be recognised and does relevant work experience ever come into play, or do they only accept degree's and apprenticeships? thanks in advance
  5. Hello everyone how are you all!?! I am 25 and work for BT, have been working here since i left oz last year after running out of money on a WHV, so currently 12 months exp in my role. My job is somewhere between a cable jointer and telecoms technician. Basically I am trying to move to oz as soon as possible, my options at the minute are (accortding to the GSM list anyway); 3 years experience 2 years + certificate III however cable jointing is on the 457 list, so first question is, do i still need the above to be able to apply for jobs? all my training is on the job training, I would be more than willing to do a city and guilds course to prove i can do all the cabling I currently do (Copper & Fibre, overhead & UG) Annoyingly there is only 1 institution in the whole of oz that offers certificate III to international students (even though cable jointing is one of perths most required jobs, and i'm sure it is elsewhere with the new broadband role out going on over there!) the course is 26 weeks, I am considering waiting till i have 2 years exp, then doing this course and trying to stay on after that, do you think this would be a better option?! I am secretly hoping a nice person reads this and wants to sponsor me!! Hope someone can help advise me, this has been doing my head in the last couple of weeks trying to work out what to do, you send people and companies emails and they never reply! peace and love x

  7. Hi guys , I'm hoping someone might have ideas on this question I have re the AQF111 I have already been approved by the TRA as a telecoms technician . All supporting documentation that I submitted was assessed and approved and I got the green light . I know accreditations are required to work on the Telstra networks and companies like Milcom provide this training and get staff certified etc . I have seen on here other people having to do extra training and tests to get to an AQF111 in order for TRA approval. My Question is - if I already have the TRA approval as a telecommunications technician - Is it worth my time and more importantly money trying to get an AQF111 or would it be more prudent to do the specialised - ' Open Registration / fibre / cabling / FTTP ' related courses when I get there and not get too hung up on having an AQF111 if I'm already okay with the TRA . Do employers in Oz insist on AQF qualifications or are the ' specialised courses ' on offer enough to secure employment on say the NBN rollout ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated . Thanks Dave
  8. Hi All, My family and I are looking to migrate to Australia as soon as possible, I have passed my TRA Skills Assessment: Supervisor, Communications Tradespersons 4316-01 and my visa has been logged with DIAC, which I am waiting to be processed. I joined British Telecom (BT) in September 1986 as a trainee Telecommunications Engineer on a full time contract. On commencement of employment I was under the supervision of a Senior Engineer who was a fully qualified Telecommunications Technician. I attended college on a day release scheme for three years to gain the National Certificate of BTEC – ONC in Telecommunications Engineering, whilst also gaining on the job training. This enabled me to become a qualified Telecommunications Engineer (Communication Tradesperson). All this training was carried out under supervision and to BT’s strict Health and Safety and Quality standards. I have progressed through BT with promotions on the way, and I am always looking to improve myself for the benefit of the company and customers. My current position is that of, Wideband Planner (Planning the end to end delivery of data / communications over the Fibre Network), I have also worked within the Copper Network in the past. I am actively seeking employment in the Brisbane area, and trying to find a company, who would be willing to Sponsor me (I am prepared to pay for the sponsorship visa, if anyone would be willing to commit to the sponsorship), with a view of a permanent position, while my visa is working its way through the system. My brother and his family as well as my Mum and Dad are already residents of Australia near Cleveland, and we are looking to join them as soon as possible. I visited my brother and his family December 2009 and we are returning again this December 2010 returning home in January 2011, we really appreciated what Australia has to offer us. It has really made us even more determined to migrate. I am enquiring, if anyone knows of any employment vacancies in my line of work. Any help would be very much appreciated. Kind Regards.
  9. Hi everyone, Just wondered if anyone is doing this job out there & if so what the job role is. I just want to know if it is the same as BT,SKY or Virgin back here. Many Thxs
  10. Hello, Not sure if this will be of any help to anyone but we just thought we would share our findings on an issue that caused us some stress. My partner's job description fits into the description of Communications Linesperson. He has been doing the job for 8 years now but does not have any formal qualifications to support it, he did an nvq 2 in IT installation but as it is not directly related to his job role he wouldn't get through the TRA skills assessment. We were advised that he should do an AQF II with a company called Conquest and an AQF III with a company called Milcom who are based in Sydney so at the moment he is doing that, it involves an online assessment of his prior learning and the company then advise what modules he needs to study for to be awarded the certificate, which he can then do online. We were reading on the TRA website that if your application for skills assessment involves an AQF III then the company who you obtained the qualification with should be registered with CRICOS ... the course he is doing is not so we panicked!!! Anyway after a good few phonecalls to Ian Harrop and the TRA we were assured that courses completed through recognition of prior learning completed from the UK do not have to be CRICOS registered, this only applies to courses completed at Australian colleges. I'm not sure if this will be of any help to anyone but we thought we would share our experience, it may save someone some unwanted stress!

    Telecommunications Engineers

Hi I'm really hoping someone can offer some advice? My husband and I are wanting to move to Melbourne. My brother lives there and my mum is currently going through the visa process. We have looked at the Skilled Occupations list and cannot find anything that fits my husbands employment - he is a Telecoms Voice Specialist but has no official apprentice-type qualifications. I'm getting quite down about all this because it seems that my family will be in Oz without me? My father will still be here which is why I don't believe we are eligable for a family visa, but we are hardly in touch, which seems a little unfair... Can anyone advise of any visa / occupation which fits, or does anyone know of anyone who successfully appied for a visa with a similar occupation? Thanks for listening! Sara
