  1. Hi all, OK first post... hopefully someone can help me out and maybe put my mind at rest (or not). Im a mechanic, 26, with qualifications and experience (carried out apprenticeship with VW), i gained my qualifications 7 years ago. Im applying for permanent residency soon and my main concern is with the vetassess interview via video call, i would really like to hear from people that have experienced this part of the process. I know myself i'm capable of doing my job but with it being years ago that i was last trained, and often rarely encountering some of the aspects of what i was originally trained in day-to-day, i'm worried what they will ask me and whether i will have the correct answers for them to pass! I am worried mainly about questions on testing electronics, auto gearboxes... areas that i haven't had much to do with, things that i know i could repair but still i'm worried about answering questions on them. i have read a couple of threads on a similar topic but the only answers i came across was people saying 'don't worry, its not actually that bad'........... i'm still worrying! lol I guess i would love to hear from someone who has done the interview as part of there process and to explain what it was like in a bit more detail... Is it hard?! What sort of questions would they ask? How in-depth do they expect you to go? How would they ask them? Is it more of a conversation than a test? How long dose it take? How would you recommend i prepare? Im not trying to worry too much but it just feels to me like this would be the deal breaker of the whole application! If anyone feels like they could help me out, it would be much appreciated! Thanks, James.

  4. Hi My husband is a Joiner and we have passed the first stage of the Vetassess application, however we have come to stage two and there are no available dates for a practical assessment in the UK until Feb 2012!! We have looked at possibly doing the technical interview but we are not sure what this involves or whether you still need to do the practical - any advice!? We dont want to wait until February to get this sorted! Thanks Lisa
  5. Hi, My friends hubby is a 'Technical Manager specialising in auto electrical work'- wiring looms, vehicle electrics etc..... And he is looking to move him and his family to Perth. He is looking at sponsorship as it is the quickest way to get there. He and his wife will rent out their house in the UK and go for the right job. They have a young daughter but she is under school age. On a personal note, the chap in question is lovely. A 36yr old man that is honest, hard working, reliable, and a big family man. As a family they have already visited perth and loved it. All advice, questions, job offers please PM me and I will pass on his email address. Thanks
  6. Hi all, I am aiming for a 176 Vic sponsored visa. To claim 10 points for Educational Qualifications the DIAC says you need to "have attained a qualification or award recognised by the relevant assessing authority in determining your skills for your nominated occupation" Possibly a silly question but I'm frazzled, like many, from reading it and re-reading it and doubting and all that goes with it!! I have a successful OTSR(so expensive under new VIC UNI scheme!!) for my nominated occupation(general electrician), is this the document/award that fits the bill to get these points? Thanks Guys
  7. Hi peeps, I need some help please from you experts! My boyfriend and I have watched the SMPs for the past year and waited in hope that my job as a Sales Rep / Business Development would come up on one of them. We noticed yesterday that Technical Sales Rep is on the SA SMP list, this is our preferred state as we have family there so are very excited! However, we are a bit confused as to whether this covers my job .... I work in B2B sales for a large international airline, recruiting new business partners for their loyalty program. On the description for "Technical Sales Rep nec" we're not sure what the nec (not elsewhere classified) means. Any ideas??? Does this mean it covers everything that is not on any of the other Sales Rep classifications e.g. the one specific to medical/pharmaceutical/industrial?? Please help we're so confused ....

  10. Hi, I'm new to the forum, just thought I'd put the feelers out before my month trip over to oz in June. I'm over for about 3 and half weeks and am looking to meet potential employers in the melbourne area. I'm looking to move over to oz in 2012 with my partner who is a phsyciatric nurse over here in England currentley studying for her band six. I've been an engineer for British gas for about 5-6 years, I ran my own business last year and am now contracting as a commercial gas engineer for a big utilities company. I have my commercial and domestic acs qualifications over here in England and feel I'm equally as experienced but am always keen to learn new stuff and meet new people. My preferred area of work is service and breakdown but have dealt with all aspects of plumbing n heating install. I'm in Melbourne for a couple of days after I land on the 29th June so if any1 can help or just meet up for a chat around these dates I'd love to meet them. The mrs is also keen to meet any nurses, thanks for viewing thread Ashley.

  12. Hi all, after log in into DIAC's "Query - application status" (Check process of an online application) page I just wanted to download Form 160EH and Form 26EH. I cannot manage this. (This service should be temporarily unavailable. - is written there...) Just curious, because I can download both same documents for my spouse. (She is secondary applicant.) Any thoughts? Are here some applicants who experienced the same - hopefully only technical - problem?

    Technical issues with medicals

Has anyone had any technical issues with panel doctors uploading medicals? Mine are all uploaded and met, but apparently, they're having problems uploading some of my partners. They have uploaded some of his, so it must have been ok at some point. The medical centre say that they have contacted the ehealth support centre nearly a week ago, but have had no reply as yet. It's frustrating as that's all the CO is waiting for.
  15. Think we have crashed their website HAHA ... or maybe being updated
  16. We are looking at coming over quite soon and are in the process of checking out the market place to see if our skills are in demand. Vikki is a Technical Services Manager here in the UK with over ten years experience. We have been looking at a few job sites and there is not much work available in this are. We was wondering if anyone know of any agencies that we could send Vik’s CV of to, to try and get the ball rolling. We have already tried Hays, Reed and a few more of the usual ones, but was looking more for specialist recruitment agencies or addresses of any companies that may be looking to employ or talk to a qualified Technical Services Manager. Any help would be great, thanks
  17. Hi I've been applying to the TRA for an ARTC for what seems like ages, now they say I have to have a technical interview over the phone discussing the theory and practical parts of the trade. Has any one else had this and what sort of things do they ask??? Thanks D
  18. Has anyone out there taken the Refrigeration Technical phone interview..??? If so, could you give me some guidance as to what kind of questions will be asked? It would be much appreciated, Josh
  19. We tried to watch the new program "Raw Comedy" on ABC TV last night, Tuesday 11th August. The sound quality was terrible, so bad that we were surprised that they allowed it to be broadcast. I've noticed a few sound problems with the ABC. SBS does much better on a lower budget, their live forum "Insight" never seems to have any problems, we can hear every speaker from over the studio, we do seem the odd boom mike but that is acceptable for a live discussion show. With the new digital TV sets that have hi-fi sound the technical people really do need to try a bit harder, this often shows up especially in older programs from just a few years ago.

    Technical question; broadband

Hello everyone I'm sure someone will have an answer to my questions What is naked broadband? In this heat I think I'll have to be naked to spend anytime at a computer. Will my wireless laptop work here or will I have to connect by wire/cable ? Thanks Fred
  21. Hi all, after reading everyone elses posts for the last year we've finally got around to posting one of our own. We are hoping to move to Perth sometime next year, we have baby number 4 arriving in Feb so we are planning to come out about September. We have searched lots of job sites but wondered if anyone in Perth could help us out. My husband is a technical sales engineer for a cutting tool company, and we are wondering what opportunities Perth has for this kind of job. We see lots of jobs advertised for Sydney and Melbourne but are really keen on Perth but obviously if there are no jobs we would be silly to move to Perth. If there is work what would be the best area to move to? Any info would be much appreciated as we keep searching and seem to be getting knowhere.
  22. Hi everyone. I posted some time ago before I got to Melbourne for IT&T Sales People looking for work in Melbourne. I'm here and getting established, so if you are coming over from the UK and want to discuss getting a job in Melbourne, do get in touch. I can't necessarily help people needing sponsorship (although some clients may consider it) but can help find a new role for you within great companies. Also, I work with a team of IT recruitment specialists (SAP, CISCO, networks/security, GIS, Developers, Project Managers etc) so anyone looking in these fields, do get in touch and I will pass your details along. We have an office in Sydney and Brisbane so I can also forward details for people dettling in these areas. Best of luck to everyone making the move, yes it's scarey, yes you get homesick, yes everything is weird at first, yes property can be more expensive than you expect it to be but it's a great country and I love it! Pj xx
