  1. I'm sorry but come on, does it really matter what the taxi drivers wear, I have never once looked at what a driver may be or may be not wearing and I can't believe that a matter like this has gone to court:wub::no: A TAXI driver has been put on trial in the Adelaide Magistrates Court for allegedly wearing denim jeans on the job. Shahram Forozandeh is being prosecuted by the Transport, Energy and Infrastructure Department over an alleged breach of the state's taxi driver uniform standards. The department claims he wore blue jeans "with orange stitching" but the Passenger Transport Act requires him to wear dress pants. In another case this week, a driver was charged for allegedly obscuring his white dress shirt with a jacket. Yesterday Bill Gonis, manager of public transport for the State Government, said uniforms were an important part of driver compliance. "It's especially important at this time of year that the public has confidence that taxi drivers are properly accredited and professional in the way they present themselves," he said. "Wearing proper uniform is one way to ensure a driver is complying with the regulations." Mr Forozandeh, 44, of Brooklyn Park, has pleaded not guilty to one count of failing to wear a uniform as specified. Giving evidence yesterday, Senior Transport Compliance Safety Officer Larry Cutufia said he issued an on-the-spot fine at Victoria Square on January 20. "I knew they were jeans because of the colour, the material, the studs on the pockets and the predominately orange stitching on the seams," he said. "That's not wearing the proper uniform (of) navy blue, brown or black business-style trousers." Mr Cutufia said Mr Forozandeh claimed his work pants "had been ripped" and declined to step out of the taxi to be photographed. Mr Forozandeh, representing himself, challenged Mr Cutufia's account. "You cautioned me that morning, you did not fine me on the spot ... I did not receive the fine until May," he said. "You cautioned me, I took a fare to Darlington and you decided to fine me after I left." Outside court, Mr Gonis said compliance officers were not required to meet a fines quota. Taxi fares in Melbourne

Hi Could anyone already living in Melbourne please give us an estimate of of taxi fares? We arrive in Melbourne Jan 2012 and would like a rough idea of the cost of taxi journerys for, say, 10-30kms. Where we are just now in Surrey, UK, it's about £8 for 3 miles. Many thanks in advance, Natasha

  5. Hi Everyone, Well we are finally coming out to validate our visas in December, staying in Mandurah first then onto Scarborough (Seashells in both) 13th till 27th December. :jiggy: Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced Taxi Wagon to collect us from Perth International Airport and take us to Mandurah??? 4 passengers & 4 suitcases on 13th December 2011 at 3pm. I've booked our hire car from Bayswater Car Hire in Freo........a Corolla Sedan.......hope its big enough to carry us and our suitcases!!! What do you think? We will be in the Seashells Scarborough for Christmas, can anyone suggest somewhere nice to eat out on Christmas Day or would you do a BBQ on the beach? I'm so excited to be finally heading out to Perth but also a little scared.............so many big decisions will be made on this trip! Will we find a suburb we like? Will there be work for my roofer husband? Can we afford a house? Will my 16yr old fall in love with Perth and agree to come with us? But at least at the end of this trip we will finally know what direction our lives are going in instead of the limbo we've been in for the last 3yrs while we've been trying to secure our Visa. Fingers crossed by August 2012 we will be living in Perth. Thanks Little Lisa xxx

    Perth Airport Taxi Service.

Hi Everyone, Just wanted to let people know that are in the UK,and who are moving to Perth WA,that I have a new Airport Pickup Service business up and running,Its a single man operation(ie me..),where by I can pick up newly relocating families from the UK and take them from the airport to their accomodation,As an expat myself hailing from the Midlands, hopefully I will be able to give a helping hand and a friendly face on arrival and perhaps give a little bit of advice too. I cover a wide area range,so its not just Perth but the surrounding areas too and will pick up from the airport any time day or night. So if anyone is interested please don't hesitate to PM me for more details. Thanks Geoff.

    Taxi's from Sanctuary Lakes

Hi, Ive recently moved to Sanctuary Lakes (VIC) and I am just wondering which is the best taxi company to use to get into town. Just had a quick ring round and so far they range from $60 up to $100, it just seems a bit excessive. Anyone know of any cheaper ones? Thanks Dave

  13. Hi all, did anyone prearrange a taxi to meet them at Melbourne airport? Just thinking that it might be nicer to have someone waiting there when we arrive instead of having to struggle through the airport with loads of bags and 2 small kids after the long journey! If you had someone to meet you at the airport - who did you use? Thanks, Clare

    Taxi

Hi All:v_SPIN: Just wanted to ask, those of you who live Aus, why do you pay per adult and per child, in a taxi, where as in the UK you pay from A to B, got a quote from a company from Brisbane Airport to Runaway Bay $80.00 adult return and $44.00 child return, just that sound about right. Looked into hiring a car, but you can't pick a hire car between the hours of 00.20-08.00am.( our flight gets in at 00.40). Thanks Paula
  16. Hello all, One of the many questions buzzing round in my head at the mo is should we have a people carrier hire car waiting for us at the airport or just grab a taxi to get to our rental??? Can't decide and need to book as we leave quite soon. Going to hire a smaller car for a week anyway but thought a people carrier be good for all our luggage and then we would have transport to get to a cheaper hire car place to bookthe smaller car next day..does that make sense or am I waffling??............ Or should we just get a taxi, then get another taxi next day to cheap hire car place? (we land 01.40 hrs) The benefit of experience appreciated as always x
  17. I was just thinking that perhaps when i move out to aussie to help with the bills initially i'll be a cabbie in melbourne. Are there any other fellow uk cabbies that currently drive in aussie? If there are i'd love to hear back from you!! From what i have seen they seem to have a similar system to ours, yellow cabs that can be flagged down and silver taxis that i think need to be booked and i think green top that can only work from 3pm-7am! On another note with regards to changing over uk licence to vic licence, once they give you your licence does it have the original date that you passed your licence in uk or does it state the day you changed over your licence as the date your licence is valid?? eg i've held my licence for 8yrs now in uk so will my aussie licence also show i've held my licence for 8yrs?
