  1. New to the site but so many great posts thought I'd say hi! My partner and I are making the move at the end of September to Sydney! Super excited and so many things to consider. Any views on the following would be great: Ship or not? Saw a post saying to ship things is it really worth it? If so, who's best? Should I get a job before I go or contract when I arrive? I work in IT and have been speaking to a recruiter who's been keen and helpful but bit worried about going for a job at a company I've never met! Will we get a place to rent in Sydney? Thinking Balmain or Woolstonecraft and bit worried about the agents offering 15minute viewing time! Looks like a no but can you get LAFHA on a 176 visa What's a good relocation package? Boyfriend's told company we're off so wondering if others have been in that place and did you negotiate a good package! If anyone's got any advice on the following it'd be great!

This is for anyone, who is moving or has moved to Perth and wants to make friends with people in same position. I'm Elizabeth and I'm 15. I'm moving to Perth sometime this year and I've spoke to some lovely people on here and I just want to get a chance to speak to some more about this experience and the challenges and rewards that go with moving to the other side of the world at a sensitive age! If you want to talk about moving to Perth or Australia in general then reply on here on private mail me, I don't mind, I'd just like to speak with some people who are in/have been in the same situation as me! love from Elizabeth xoxo

My Mum is not talking to me!!

When we first told my parents we were going to move to Australia they were very supportive and said they would join us!! oh joy!! since then my Mum has got cold feet and will not move. Since we told them she uses every opportunity to have a dig at me. You know the sort of thing, "oh yes, we had the chance to move to Australia when you were little but I couldn't have left Nanny". My Dad had a stroke last week and life has been really stressful, he has had an operation on his right artery that turned out to be 90% blocked, but in 6 weeks he needs the other artery operated on. In all of that our 175 visas were granted - great!! but under the circumstances with my Dad the celebrations didn't happen. Then, rightly or wrongly I allowed my 7 year old son to audition for the west end production of Oliver! he got in!! he has a six month contract from June to December, my mother is aboslutely livid that I could take him away from all this opportunity to take him to Perth in Australia where he will not have these opportunities. I danced, I am a qualified teacher and I can see that both he and his younger sister are very talented - but let's get realistic!! they are both more likely to work in an office or a building site than be star actors or ballerinas (although in my daughters case I hold judgement as she is only 6 but quite spectacular at ballet). So a chance on a big London stage for 2 months is surely better than nothing - or is it not? am I being deluded and she is right and I shouldn't have let him go for it. I truly didn't think he was up to it at this age. My sister agrees with my Mum! and I am feeling very alone at the moment, my sister says we should not go to australia as the job market is bad and we will be back real soon and ruin the children's future. Sorry for ranting, not sure who else will understand. I would appreciate a true opinion from anyone. Thanks Sue
  5. Does anyone have this one? Since we recently made our final decision to migrate to OZ we are excited about it. However despite all the research being complete, all the figures stacking up and everyone being supportive, we still feel like we might not make it for some reason!?! It's as if something unknown will stop us or won't allow us to realise our dream. It's almost that the propsect of a new life in OZ is too good to actually attain. Does that make sense? I know it's probably just paranoia, but both Sarah and I feel the same and just wondered if anyone else knows the feeling?
