  1. Hi to admins and all forum members, I`m mechanical engineer and working in construction industry in middle east and have 4+ years experience with cranes and service lifts. 2. I have occasionally been working on and off in Australia for the last 10 years, I am a freelance offshore supervisor(O&G) and nearly all of my work is carried out on offshore on vessels, I have never spent more than 100 days in Australia in any given year. My line of work is highly specialised and I am guessing there is only about 20 other people in the whole world with similar skills and experience still willing to go offshore and work. 90% of the jobs I do are less than 6 weeks duration(most are 5 week duration which is the standard length of an offshore swing for Aussie mariners). Originally for the first couple of years I was able to work on a 456 visa because of the specialist nature of the work and the short job durations, however for the last 2 years I have had to get a 457 visa and to get this I need to be sponsored by a company. The 457 however causes me great problems as the agency who sponsor the 457 do not have sufficient work for me to only work for them. I am often offered other work with other companies but have not be able to take it on as the whole visa issue cannot be sorted in a timely manner (lead in time for my projects is typically only about 2 weeks). Thee Agency has offered to subcontract me to these other companies so that the 457 can stay in place, however their mark-up is in the region of $500 per day(even though they claim this is a zero profit markup) and this makes it uneconomic for companies to then hire me. Is there any way I could hold my own 457 rater than be tied to a sponsor? I am 45 years old and operate my own UK Ltd company but fall well short of the turn over requirement to establish a branch office in Australia. I have no plans to permanently migrate to Australia. I don't mind paying tax either.
  3. My wife has commenced application to work as a specialist GP and has secured an offer with a practice in southwest Sydney. We are currently getting all qualifications recognised by AMC AHPRA etc and she will be looking to move over at the end of this year. I need to remain in the UK to sell our current house but will be looking to move over between 6months to a year later than my partner. Can anyone advise what type of visa I would need to join my already working partner? I will be needing to find work once I am over there, I'm not sure if I need to have secured a position from the UK before I can travel or would I be able to stay under my partners working status until I could secure work? Any help gratefully received. Keith L

  15. I currently hold a +ve assessment from ACS as 2231-79 .NET Tech Specialist. I'm just wondering what my fellow .NET guys think about where what ANZCO code we should fall into. I'm going to apply for the free re-assessment with ACS and I reckon the closest match is 261312 Developer Programmer. This also happens to be the safest as it is included in Schedule 3, Schedule 4, and also the ENSOL lists. See my workings below. SCHEDULE 3 (GSM) 261312 Developer Programmer = 2231-17 Applications and Analyst Programmer SCHEDULE 4 (SMP's) 261399 Software and Applications Programmers nec = 2231-79 Computing Professional nec 261312 Developer Programmer = 2231-17 Applications and Analyst Programmer ENSOL 261399 Software and Applications Programmers nec = 2231-79 Computing Professional nec 261312 Developer Programmer = 2231-17 Applications and Analyst Programmer 261312 Developer Programmer = 2231-19 Systems Programmer Altough according DIAC's correlations 261312 Developer Programmer matches 2231-17 Applications and Analyst Programmer, ABS classifies Developer Programmer's specialisations as: Communications Programmer (Systems) Database Developer Database Programmer (Systems) Network Programmer Software Developer Software Programmer I don't know about you .NET guys but on my assessment letter ACS had my experience down as 'Software Developer'. So I'm going for 261312 Developer Programmer, would like to know the thoughts of other +ve .NET guys. Thanks a lot.
  16. I was just wondering how in demand a SEN teacher is in NSW at present. 20. I visited Australia for six and a half months in 2009 on a Tourist Visa. When I advised my House/Car insurers that my house would be left empty with the car locked in the garage, for 3 to 12 months, I was told that my insurance would have to be cancelled. I eventually got house/car insurance on very poor terms. For example no theft, vandalism or water leakage cover on the house. Does anyone know of a UK insurer that could provide house/car insurance during future trips to Australia? Many thanks for taking the time to read this message

    C# Developer or C# Specialist

Hi there, I have nominated 2231-79 Computing Professionals, and i'll be applying for ACS assessment. But I have one confusion for the MODL description, and that is, what should i write: C# developer or C# Specialist. I have earned distinction in C++ and professionally done projects with major in C#. I know in the end it will ACS to decide, but at least from my end what would be better. Thanks a lot. Waiting for a kind reply.

If anyone knows of any, especially ones that deal in software development and can pass on details I'd be ver grateful. 24. Hi, I've been wading through the internet trying to find a University that caters for the Bachelor Degree course I want to take ( Fine Art). Ideally I'd like to find a migration specialist who can help to make sure that I am doing everyhting I should correctly! I would prefer to be in Queensland, but it seems that the course I require is not available at most Uni's. Does anyone know of a database for Australian Universities where you can type in the required course and find locations? Migration Expert have said they do a Student Package, but it looks like it offers the information I know I can already get hold of. Can anyone help!!????:wacko:
