  1. Hi there, we are planning on arriving in Perth at the end of June:biggrin: My husband is an industrial electrician and I am a primary school teacher, although I won't be looking to work full time until my wee girl (11) is settled in school etc. Mu husband already has his WA A grade license and he is going over in mid May to complete a HV switching course ( because he has the experience but not the cert and some adverts are requiting this). We are hoping that this will give his CV an added boost for some of the better paying projects that are on the go. He is happy to do FIFO. He has been on the phone daily and all the recruiters say is 'get back to me when you get here'. So, we are really hoping that there will indeed be plenty of work for him. Neither of us have ever been to perth but my son is working there as a dump truck driver in a mine. He is loving it (and the money) and assures us that my husband won't have a problem. If there are any sparkies out there that can reassure me OR the opposite, Id be very grateful! Sorry this is so looooong!
  2. Does a 100 watt 12 volt halogen light globe get hotter than a 150 watt 24 volt one??? The cover on my pool light says no greater than a 100 watt to be used, but the old one was a 150 watt 24 volt. There is no such thing as a 100 watt in a 24 volt so thinking I was doing the right thing replaced it with a 100 watt 12 volt, well it blew after a few hours and has left scorch marks on the inside cover. Not sure if this was due to moisture inside the cover or it just got too hot. I'm totally confused on what globe to use now and the woman in the pool shop has no idea either.

    Work for Sparkies

Hi there I've not been on this forum for ages but I would be so grateful for any help you can give me. My brother and his mate have arrived to visit me and they are both Scottish electricians. They have not done any sort of conversion course and are on a one year working visa, just planning to go with the flow!!! My brother has saved a lot so does not need to worry too much about work yet but his mate Marc needs to get working soon. He is willing to do anything and is really obliging and keen, seems a shame to be wasting his skills. He has 4.5 years experience (including apprenticeship) but is happy to go anywhere to make the most of the Ozzie experience. Do you know any agencies, companies etc we could contact? He's not expecting electrician work - "just a foot in the door"... Thank you so much guys, I love it here!!!! Just want to help others live the dream...# Susie xx

I am an electrician and it would be great to meet up with a sparkie who has done the move and now lives in adelaide. 6. Hi My hubbys cousin & wife would like to come & migrate to Oz only problem is he turns 45 next year & has been told the only way in is to be sponsored for his work as an electrican - can anyone please tell me if there is a list or anything similar where he can apply for sponsored jobs or is it a matter of just contacting as many companies as possible for the work. :unsurexmas: Many thanks stuju
  7. I'm an electrician hopefully heading for the Adelaide area and would like to make some contacts in the area so I can get straight into work (and getting my licence). I have been mainly in the commercial/industrial industry but would consider domestic work. I have had a full 4 year apprenticeship and another 16 years experience. Any takers??? Tom
  8. Hi Guys Does anyone know whether the demand for electricians is higher in any particular state(s) or is it a general skill shortage problem? Also, do salaries vary between states much? We are looking at Brisbane to settle, but that isn't definite. John isn't great with the heat (doh!) so the job opportunities will probably dictate where we go in the end. Thanks. Tracy :jimlad:
