  1. Hi I am moving to Sydney in February with my partner (who has a 457 visa/job lined up, so I don't need sponsorship), and therefore need to find work. In London I have primarily worked as a software engineering in investment banks (foreign exchange trading), usually as a contractor - can anyone here from a similar background share their experience finding work in Sydney? I also thought about applying to Google or Atlassian, as they are two well respected software companies. Marcos

  3. Good day everyone, I am a 29-year-old software developer who has been working in the IT field for 10 years. I have taken charge in software development, project management and development consultancy. I am specialised in .NET area; in branches mainly as C#, ASP.Net, ADO.Net, SQL Programming, XML, Remoting, VB.NET, LINQ and also have upper-intermediate knowledge in JAVA, XAML, T-SQL and C++. I am moving to Brisbane in March 2010 with work-and-holiday visa which will allow me to work full-time in Australia for one year while my visa assessment for "Skilled – Independent (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 175)" continues and hopefully finishes during the time I am working there. I am looking for a job in Brisbane in my field. It would be a great plus if the employer sponsored me while my PR assessment continued. I will have time to prove myself as a genuinely skilled programmer, since I will be on work-and-holiday visa for a year. Please pm me if you have any information, advice or suggestion regarding my post. I will be glad to forward my CV. Thank you very much in advance.

    Software testing and SOL

Need help and guidance from the forum members regarding my Permanent Residency plan to Aussie land. I am ( 32+ years old) an Electronics Engg Graduate from India with a 7+ years of Software testing (manual) experience which includes nearly 3+years work experience in Australia on a 457 visa. With my employer not willing to sponsor me ENS way of residency is there any way I can get my residency on my own . As you all know Software Testing is not in the new SOL list its getting harder for me to get it on my own or I am just :daydreaming: . Can a manual tester be accessed as a Software Engineer or similar. As SE is in current SOL list or do we know by any chance Software Testing is going to be included in the SOL list in near future or I am still :daydreaming: Is there anyway I can lodge the application on my own and get the residency. Much appreciated for your time :cute:.
  5. Dear PomsinOz'ites, As always, I thank this forum for answering a whole lot of questions related to my immigration. Now that I've got my PR, i would be grateful if some kind folks ( which All of you are-) enlighten me on the following: 1) Is it possible to get a Information Technology job or atleast a date for interview from abroad (I'm from India and have nearly 10 years of experience in a US based MNC in India). 2) I'm willing to travel to Australia on short notice to attend the interview if required. But will i get a call for for that if I apply from India? 3) Can i directly call up consultants and try to set up an interview from India? if any of you know any consultants, I'll be thankful. Thanking you
  6. I need a 5-6 years experienced software professinal CV format which is preferred by the australian recruiters. I used to write projects in my CV but later I found CV formats on the online recruiter's websites which only expresses responsibilities and acheivements. I can not express my projects in full details in these formats which I think is very important for a software developer. Therefore, I need a sample CV or any CV format of a 5-6 years experienced software engineer/developer.

    New Apple Software

As anyone updated their software yet to the latest version released? It seems the servers are struggling to cope with the demand. I think I will wait a few days and let Rob try it first, I can't risk any downtime.
  9. Hi Guys, would really appreciate if anyone of you would have any idea about whether there is a probability that DIAC may cap or stop receiving the new applications for skilled migratnt VISA application for SE or maybe any other category. I am planning to submit my VISA application in january next year as i need to get my skills assessed. i am just anxious that they dont stop accepting new applications by next year or there is any capping process for the same. Sukesh

  16. I'm reading conflicting reports regarding software development jobs in Australia. I would be interested to hear from those in the industry to how the jobs market is. I'm a senior developer (14 years) working with C#, ASP.net, SQL server. There seems to be plenty of jobs on Seek but I know quite often there can be loads of duplicates on these job sites. I plan on getting a skilled migration visa(175) and would we looking at going to Melbourne (or possibly Sydney).
  17. Hi Folks, I am a Java/J2EE developer with over 11 years of experience, and my wife is a Software QA professional with over 6 years of experience. I was planning to apply for a 175 visa and got my ACS evaluation done. However, recent mails about the delays in getting a 175 visa got me thinking about 176. As per the link http://www.business.nsw.gov.au/migration/pdfdocuments/STNI_Criteria_STNI_Skilled.pdf, I can apply for State/Territory sponsorship in NSW, working in Sydney was all that I was looking for anyway. However, when I thought about the restriction of working in NSW for the initial 2 years, many questions popped into my mind and I hope folks here can help me out with these. 1) I heard that the initial 2 years is just a commitment sought by the State, but not a legal restriction that can affect me in future like in getting citizenship (found this is this forum). Is this true? Please don't construe this as a ploy to get SS and then break my commitment. My wife and myself prefer to work in the Sydney area, but what will happen if after a year due some market condition, employment in Sydney gets really tough but employment in Melbourne gets better/easier. How would I be able to stick to my commitment when I don't have a job? Of course this is purely hypothetical, but I couldn't find any documentation on the DAIC site that clarifies this query. 2) What is the difference in processing times between 175 and 176? Is it just a 6 months wait? 3) How long will it take to get a NSW SS and then 176? 4) Given my wife's and my profile, do you think NSW is the right choice, employment wise, when compared to Victoria? I know that I can get a feel of the job reqt from seek.com.au, but I would appreciate it if you could share your experience. Cheers, Ryan.

    Software Engineer - Melbourne?

Hi All I don't know if anyone can help with this at all? Let me introuce us first as we are newbies - Dawn, Steve & Leah (aged 6) and we have been looking at moving to Oz for about 5 years now, have already done reckies in Adelaide & Sydney. We have finally decided Melbourne is the place for us and are eagerly awaiting the State Migration Plan to see if we are in with a shot of getting State sponsorship. However, this is all well and good but we were wondering if anyone can advise on how likely/easy it is to find employment in Melbourne? Steve is a software engineer for BAE systems up until recently and would ideally be looking for working involving Ada and C+ code programming (hope that makes sense??) If anyone has any knowledge of this area of employment please do get in touch as we would love to get some advice  Thanks Dawn
  19. Hello all, I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I have applied for 176 visa and my application is under process. I have to opt for a state where I need to settle down under 176 visa category. I am a IT software engineer , more into embedded systems and chip related softwares. Can any one please advise me which state has more prospects of getting a job in my relevant field? Can any one help me?... Thanks in advance sam76
  20. After the realease by DIAC of the correlation between ASCO and ANZCO, can anyone confirm that all 2231-79 Computing Professionals nec classification (ASCO) occupations are equivalant to 261399 Software & Applications Programmers (ANZCO), which is on the new SOL. I may be misreading this but it seems plainly obvious that this is the case. Hope so. Cheers.
  21. Hi all! Just received an email from IEA advising that my qualification is recognised as a Software Engineer (ASCO 2129-79). Does anybody have an idea whether this ASCO code will be translated into ANZSCO 261313 Software Engineer via the "concordance" table yet published by DIAC? Any ideas would be highly appreciated, especially from our respected agents and Gill. :notworthy: Cheers, Alex
  22. New SOL does not contain the list of the organisations which will be responsible for the assessment of the codes. When it is obvious where some codes should be assessed, it is not so clear for others. For example, I am not sure if 261313 Software Engineer will be assessed by ACS or IEA. Would like to hear your opinions. Thanks in advance.

  24. A friend sent me this in an email-very funny I reckon. For All Female IT Users - New Software Releases INSTALLING A HUSBAND Dear Tech Support, Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewellery applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0. In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs such as Football 6.0, Cricket 5.1 and Golf Clubs 4.1. Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail, in fact Husband 1.0 seemed to slow even further. What can I do? Signed, Desperate. DEAR DESPERATE, First, keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system. Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme.html and try to download< /FONT> Tears 6.2 and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update. If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewellery 2.0 and Flowers 3.5. However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to< U> Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer 12.1. Please note that Beer 12.1 is a very bad program that will download the Snoring program as well as disable spell checker and voice recognition Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will try to seize control of all your operating system resources.) In addition, please do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0-program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0. In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider new software to improve performance. We recommend Cooking 3.0 and* Hot Lingerie 7.7. Tech Support
