  1. Hi, I would like to sponsor my gf for de facto partner PR visa on shore. She has been in OZ on a student visa. I have a question how much would the visa application fee be? Here is a table: http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/990i/partner.htm and it says: If you currently hold a Transitional (temporary) visa and were granted this visa on the basis that you satisfied the requirements for the grant of an extended eligibility entry permit under the Migration Regulations 1989. $345 I don`t understand the `grant of an extended eligibility entry` part. Can she pay this fare as a student visa holder? There s a huge difference between 350 and 3000 AUD.
  2. Hi, I am an easy going welsh girl (30 year old) and live in the lower north shore (Sydney) with my partner. I have been out here for 1.5 years now and I am keen to make new friends. I am interested in socialising, shopping, partying going for coffee etc and having a good time. Let me know if anyone fancies catching up...I'd ove to hear from you. Thanks, Isobelle
  3. Hi all, I have just had my 457 visa approved and will be moving over to Sydney (for my second stint there) in Jan/Feb - I would love to join a football team and play in some sort of league. I wondered if anyone knew of any decent teams (or not so decent - I'm not Wayne Rooney) somewhere in the North shore - I will be living in Lane Cove/Chatswood. Cheers Lee
  4. Just finalised our bookings for flights etc We (my wife and I, and our 4 yr old son) are coming to Aus on a 457 visa, flying in on 2 November I'll be working in Chatswood and we have a serviced apartment there through the company until we can get a rental sorted out. Looking at Wahroonga/Turramurra/St.Ives area for preference My wife's sister lives in Neutral Bay and we have a few friends in Sydney so it's nice to know we'll not be entirely on our own - but wondered if anyone else here lives in the same sort of area? Getting excited now - still a million things to do at this end, mind

    New on North Shore

Hi all, We (hubby, wee boy and I) landed in Sydney just over 3 weeks ago and moved into an apartment in Mosman this weekend. Lovely area and things are going well, but feeling lonely! Any other Poms around here and in particular recommendations for where to meet people? We are keen to find places for our toddler to go too - playgroups, activities etc... any recommendations very welcome!

    Off Shore Partner Application

Hi all, The OH has just been appointed LG as her CO - does anyone have any idea what she is like? Also, what's the time frame I know that they have said 4-6 months but what is the reality cheers. We are in the UK by the way so don't know whether that has any affect on the timings. Cheers mis.
  7. Hi, My wife just received AHPRA eligibility email for nursing registation. She is working in Neuro ICU as band 6 in London NHS trust and we are planning to move to Sydney. We are not able to decide Royal Prince Alfred or Royal North Shore which one to apply as only these two have Neuro ICUs. In term of renting RPA is better but don't know how these both hospitals are. Hoping to get advice from nurses working for these two hospitals. .....Mansawant
  8. Hi all Just thought I'd add what we found in case it helps others, on a recent reccie trip over in advance of our move this coming November I will be working with an employer in Chatswood, travelling on a 457 visa, and have other friends and family living on the North side of Sydney - so knew we were looking for a North Shore location, which at least cut things down a bit. Important things to us as part of our move are cutting down the commute (currently I do 75-90 minutes e/w into London from Suffolk - bleurrgh), finding a really good school for our son who's nearly 5, a nice sized and quality spec family home, and the general "feel" of the area. Hard to describe - even harder to give a brief to someone to help with! We were fortunate enough to have the services of a relocator, who arranged appointments with schools and some houses to see what sort of price we'd have to pay for what we wanted in an area we liked. They drove us round for 2 days and were massively helpful, so it was a great service. No idea what it costs - my employer is paying - but very handy indeed and I know we're lucky and most people don't have this luxury Initially we thought we wanted to live somewhere near the water, so pencilled in suburbs like Lane Cove, Northbridge, Seaforth, Middle Cove, Castle Crag - and we visited all these. We discounted Mosman on account of overpricing (Sister in Law lives in Cremorne, so we know it quite well) Lane Cove I liked quite a bit, but my wife wasn't so keen. She found it a bit urban, whereas I quite liked the variety of housing and the handiness of the shops. Northbridge had nice houses, we weren't so keen on the shops and facilities, and we found the streets narrow and steep with very few pavements, which we felt might be an issue for small kids. This applied to most of these waterside suburbs to be honest, and wasn't something we were expecting. Northbridge also seemed very expensive for what you get. Castle Crag and Middle Cove were much better in this respect, and the shopping "village" in Castle Crag was really nice. But streets still a bit narrow really. Seaforth again similar in terms of steepness, but there are tons of facilities there and it seems like very good value - but you have to put up with Spit Bridge & Military Road traffic So we were a bit stuck - our relocator had arranged appointments in the Upper North Shore and initially we weren't keen as it felt a long way out to us. But as soon as we turned off the Pacific Highway and into Wahroonga, it felt really nice - lovely villagey feel around the train station, very leafy and green with mature trees, wide streets, pavements, nice houses - to be honest it ticked every box for us. So the next day we concentrated on this area and looked around Turramurra and St.Ives and some of the suburbs further down. I know this sounds odd, but these three suburbs actually felt quite villagey to us, it's probably the amount of bush and green space, and we realised that's what we wanted - the suburbs further in towards Chatswood - Gordon, Killara, Roseville - felt much more what we'd think of as suburban, which isn't really what we're after. We went out there with an open mind, because we know where we currently live (mediaeval house in an old village) isn't something that can be recreated in Australia, but we were surprised with what we concluded So we're settled on looking for somewhere to live in Wahroonga (ideally) or Turramurra/St.Ives for second preference. Let's see how we get on when we land in the early Summer! As for schools, we visited Northbridge, Seaforth, St.Ives North (public) and Wahroonga prep (private). All of them seemed pretty good to me, of the public schools St.Ives North looked the best in terms of organisation and facilities, from what you can tell from a 45 minute short visit any way, which obviously isn't much. I would say the standard of primary education looked a bit better than that commonly available in the UK Hope this helps someone!
  9. Hi all, Can anyone tell me of the time line for these two visas please Thankyou very much
  10. Just seen a trailer for it and I just cannot believe that this is the successor of 'The LIkely Lads, When The Boat Comes In, & Auf Wiedersehen Pet'? I used to be proud of my South Shields birth but..... this makes Big Brother look like Shakespeare.
  11. Howdy guys and gals, I'm a 33yr old guy looking to widen my group of friends here, been in Sydney a few years now. If anyone wants to say hello or point me in the direction of where Sydney hides it's quirky people, send me a pm  Terry
  12. Hi - I'm moving from London to Sydney in early March with my (Aussie) husband and my 2-year old (baby # 2 due in June). I'd love to get in contact / meet up with any mums who might be around in that area (probably Lane Cove / Willoughby / Chatswood), so would be great if there are either any established groups already meeting that we could tag along to, or any mums who might like to meet for a coffee / park trip. Do send me a message if this sounds of interest! Caroline

    On Shore Spouse Visa

I entered sunny OZ in Jan on a prospective marriage visa which was issued and we got married in January 2011. This visa runs out in early Aug 2011 and we are about to send in our On Shore Spouse Visa application. Can anyone explain what happens in the mean time in relation to the visa? Thanks in advance
  15. So I'm merrily plodding along with the 176 process (ACT) should get vetassess back any day then will be submitting state sponsorship straight away. However, now there is a chance we could be heading there on a 457 in 2-3 months due to an unexpected potential job. What I want to know is... Can we apply for ACT state sponsorship off shore, and then apply for A 176 onshore (just thinking if the ss doesn't come through before we go to Oz). Any thoughts?!! Thanks emma
  16. Hi, I’m moving over to Sydney next month and am looking for a room in a nice place. I’m looking for something in the Lower North Shore areas of Neutral Bay or Cremorne. I’m 27, from the UK. I enjoy my sports, travelling, music and keeping active. When I’m not at work I like to catch up with friends over a few drinks. Hoping to find a place with either a mix of girls and guys or just girls who are friendly, easy going, and a similar age to myself. I am very reliable, respectful and easy going. If you think you have something or know something that may be of interest to me, please email with details and if possible pictures. Cheers, Lauren

  18. Hi I arrived in Sydney a month ago. In the UK I had my own kitchen business for 5 years doing customer visits to plan and sell the kitchen, then project managing the installations doing the kitchen fitting myself along with my business partnet. We also had a team of sub contractors for things like Gas & Electric. I am currently looking into the licenses required to fit over here but apparently I can work under someone elses license as a fitters mate? I don't have any tools or transport at this time but again I am looking into this. If anyone needs or knows of anyone who needs a mate that would be great! I am available immediately. I am based in Mosman but have good transport links to the North Shore and the CBD. Cheers, Andy

  20. Hi all I was just wondering if anyone was up for a friendly kick-a-bout? Jumpers for goal posts nothing too serious. I'm in Mosman so can suggest plenty of places around here or happy to go where ever if anyone can think of a more suitable venue? Thinking early on a weekend morning say 10:30 ish or doing a weekday evening try and keep it as cool as possible? Cheers, Andy
  21. Just a bit of an update for the international students on the forum as there has been further confusion in regards to DRCs. Due to the release of the SMP’s, Brisbane has announced changes to the DRC process. · No longer accepting DRC for priority 3 applications; · DRC only available to priority 2 (SMP applications); · DRC only available if application is decision ready at time of application. Applications made decision ready at a later date will not be allocated to a case officer under DRC guidelines; · DRC must be lodged within 72 hours of lodging the visa application; · DRC applications will now take up to 28 days to be allocated to a case officer. · Even 485 and 887 will need to be decision ready at time of application to be able to access DRC. These will be allocated within 14 days.

  23. Hi All We are due to move over in December (457 fingers crossed) and will be staying with my sister in law and husband in Mona Vale. We would like to rent in the same area in January or February and have been looking on Domain.com and Realestate.com, but there does not seem to be too much about. Does anyone else have any suggestions for good sources to find a 3 bedroom house on the north shore. Thanks Rob

  25. Hi - hope someone can help. We are moving to the Sydney area in April, and have visited lots of sites and had a lot of info about primary schools for our 6yr old twins. We are looking at either State or Catholic Schools, and are likely to be moving to the Upper North Shore area - so we've been looking at places like Wahroonga, Waitari, Hornsby, Asquith and the like. Can anyone give some info on the best schools in the area - we've visited lots of sites and they all seem to have good and bad points - so any information anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. If need be, we will move location to be near a better school - my work is in Crows Nest - so happy to get the train to wherever. Hope someone can advise Thanks - James
