  4. Hi guys just a quick question am a joiner / carpenter / shop fitter and have just started the visa process and have been asked to start thinking about state sponsorship. Some friends we are hopefully coming with can only qualify with SA state sponsorship.. I have done a search on SEEK and there only seems to be 1 job advertised for my trade compared to Melbourne that has 101 Are trade jobs hard to come by in SA or is it a case like England if you want a job you will get one. I really like the look of SA but without a job it will just be a pipe dream and we may have to look elsewhere Thank you for any help and advice you can give us in advance Keeping fingers and toes firmly crossed

Guys n gals I'm visiting Perth on a business trip at the start of February and I have to buy an ink-jet printer. Is there a chain of computer shops, like PC World, in WA so that I might be able to check online? Failing that, can anyone recommend a computer shop in the immediate area of Perth CBD please? Thanks in advance

How do we stand with shop law?

Last time we were in Australia, we went into a local shop and on the door, there was a notice saying something like; the management have the right to search your bags and or prams. When we got to the till the lady asked to look at our pram, which we agreed to as we did not know any better. In the UK, shops can not do that and you have the right to refuse. Also in the UK if the alarm goes of as you walk out the door, the shop does not have the legal right to look in your bag and you do not have to come back into the shop. What is the law in Oz regarding situations like this? Does the consumer have the legal right to refuse people to look in their property or come back into the shop if the alarm goes off or is it in the powers to do this?
  19. Hello, Ok so we have been here in Melbourne 8 weeks now and our stuff was supposed to arrive on 26th August, however the silly ship went and got itself delayed in Singapore and now isn't scheduled to arrive into Melbourne until 6th September and delivery to our address is forecast for around the 17th September, that's if customs just let it through with no problems! However, we are now faced with a problem, in that we are going on holiday on September 10th to Thailand and do we have any summer clothes or swimwear here with us??? .......No! We brought with us all our winter woolies, ugg boots etc etc and packed all our summer stuff on the ship!!!! Hence my question.......... does anyone know of a great little shop, to get all your swimwear, beach clothes and summer dresses, that doesn't cost an absolute fortune??? I have been to Chadstone and Southlands, but have so far managed to find one dress!!! Oh and two bikinis!! However this will never do and I am really panicking now!! It seems as though the summer wear hasn't kicked in yet in stores. Please help! Vanessa x
  20. Hi, Bizarre thread of the day... I know there are squillion's of furniture shops in Perth but when my wife and I landed a few months back we went trekking around all the major Shopping Centres both North and South of the river. My wife loved one furniture shop ( actual furniture - beds, sofas etc.) which she looked around when we were inside one of the shopping centres here. A few months later and having visited most of the shopping malls - I cannot for the life of me remember which shopping centre it was. Now I know 99% of the furniture shops are outside the actually shopping centres, so hopefully my question is not soooo stupid. But can anyone tell me a shopping centre which does have a furniture shop inside it - I then might recall the name of the shop and centre If I remember correctly the furniture shop was not slap bang in the centre of the mall but on one of its offshoots, but defintiely accessible from the inside. thanks for your time Cheers ScottyB

  23. Hi there guys, new user to the forum here - I'm thinking of moving down to Australia sometime next year but wouldn't mind some answers to some questions before I do! My work background is software development (specifically Oracle database development in case you're interested!) and I've been working in this sector for nearly 12 years now. Having spoken to a couple of mates who have either worked down in Australia themselves or know of someone else who has, I've heard that there is a bit of a closed shop mentality when it comes to employing non Australians. From the experiences of people out there on the forum, is there much truth to this? Is it a case of who you know, not what you know (another thing that I've seen popping up here a bit as well!) Any info would be appreciated - I'd love to come and work down in Oz but don't fancy leaving a perfectly good job here to be unemployed down there!! Thanks a mil, Geoff

    Pet shop (fish) recommendation NOR?

We've been telling our Elmo daft daughter that we'd get her a "Dorothy" (Elmo's pet goldfish) once we were settled into our new house and it's time to put words into action. Can anyone recommend a good pet shop in Perth, NOR? I've seen a couple of stores within the malls that have puppies in tiny glass cases so looking for somewhere a bt more sympathetic to their stock although I guess most goldish don't have long and happy lives - or hopefully I'm wrong.
  25. My OH is a barber and we have some friends that live in Perth, and when we move to oz the OH wants to open his own Barber Shop after about 12-18 months of working for somebody else. Now our friends think that a british barber shop would go down well in Perth cos of the amount of brits that move there and the amount of fellas that complain that they can't can't get a decent hair cut, so I'm interested in what you guys think? Would you go to a certain barber's cos he was british knowing you might get better haircut?? Just to add there might already be some I have no idea!
