    My shipment !!!

    Hi everyone Cant believe I just got an email from our shipping company to tell us our shipment is now in Leeds ready to load onto the Brisbane container sounds good, except they packed up our stuff on the 31st May and took it to Glasgow, so its taken 2 months to get our stuff to Leeds how long will it take to get to Brisbane:arghh: Is this normal ! We arrived in the Gold Coast on the 6th July so we could have a long wait in an empty house. Wilma
  2. Hi All, I am moving to Australia next month along with my family (wife & 2 kids age 9 & 7). Currently I am living in UAE for last 5 years.. We are very eager to see Australia and get settle there. We are planning to land in Melbourne and would be looking forward to buy some cheap property in suburb around Point Cook area. Any good schools recommendation? Any guidance with regard to shipment of my stuff to Australia?? Can I ship my cars as well to get some savings on duty being an immigrant? Also wanted to know if any banks offer a credit card without getting a job. I am fine to secure the credit card limit by blocking that much amount in the account however the sooner I have, the sooner I can start making the credit history. Regards, Shajer
  3. Hi everyone - we have been told my spouse VISA (permanent) may not be processed until April 2013 and we are set to move in January 2013. I would be grateful for your help with a couple of worrying issues: What options do we have regarding me working from January onwards - during the interim? A tourist VISA will obviously not do nor (as I understand it) will an eVisitor VISA (Subclass 651)? All of our belongings have been shipped and as I understand it we will not be able to get them released by customs unless *all* the VISAs are in place - so if I do not have anything or it is still being processed, our container will not be released to us?! Any advice about this would of course be much appreciated - we have had an immigration officer in Oz working the case but I am keen to get some alternative opinions - thanks in advance for your expertise and help.
  4. We've just had quotes from Clark & Rose (acting for John Masons), Doree Bonner and Crown to ship in May 2012. Here's a summary of the process so far: We arranged all three to come on the same day and gave each the same schpeel about what we were looking for in terms of services and what we were planning on taking with us. We've got a 2-bedroom flat full of personal items and furniture. Most of our furniture can be dismantled with the exception of a tumble dryer, two 3-seater sofas, two double mattresses and we're planning on buying a king-size mattress to take as well. Our expectation was that we'd be looking at a shared container and our online inventory guesses always estimated around 600-650cuft. Each agent came through and spent around 45 minutes with us, discussing our expectations, timescales and their services before going room-by-room to estimate the volume of our shipment. It took around 4 days for all the quotes to come back. They were each quite different in their approach. Clark & Rose (aka John Masons) - Very friendly and professional service. The agent who visited us would be our single point of contact from door to door. Our goods would ship out of Liverpool to Melbourne in around 12-16 weeks and in Australia they hand service over to either Grace or Ridgeways to deal with customs clearance and delivery in Melbourne. The agent made a brief summary list of what we were planning on taking. Her quote doesn't provide an estimated volume. Instead she's quoted us £3,250 for up to 700cuft (shared container) or £3,825 for sole use of a 20-foot container. This does not include AQIS (anywhere from $250 to $450 AUD), port charges (where required) or insurance (quoted at 3% of value plus tax). Doree Bonner - Quite an outgoing chap, but he turned up late and seemed keen on playing down the services offered by competing companies. Again, he would be the main point of contact from door to door. Our goods would go to their warehouse in Edinburgh and then ship from Dartford in 12-16 weeks (though he did offer to delay it 'in transit' at their facility Edinburgh to suit our timescales and save us on storage in Australia). Although they would also hand over to Grace in Australia, it is their sister company so they have integrated systems / communications / etc. He took more time than JM when looking at what we were planning on taking and quoted £2,769 for an estimated 580cuft. This does not include AQIS (anywhere from $250 to $450 AUD), port charges (where required) or insurance (quoted at 2.75% of value plus tax). Crown - Really relaxed guy offering a straight-forward service. Crown has offices in the UK and Australia, so it would be the same company on both sides. I forgot to write down where they ship from, but it would take between 10-12 weeks and we can track our goods on their website. He left us with the names and bios of the agents we would be dealing with in Scotland and Melbourne as well as a lot of really useful info they've been putting together with inputs from customers and customs, etc. He took the most time compiling a detailed inventory list on his iPad, going room by room and checking to see what could be dismantled to save on space. Dismantling/assembly is included in their removals service. Based on this he quoted us £3381 for an estimated 674cuft, including $400AUD for AQIS. The quote doesn't include port charges (where required) or insurance (quoted at 2.8% of value plus tax for standard or 3% plus tax for premium). It's worth noting these are all estimates to deliver within 50km / 30 miles of Melbourne and that each is subject to change as a result of freight increases in March. We're going to have another look at what we're shipping and whether it would be more cost-effective to buy some things on arrival. All three companies have said we can revise the inventory as much as we want and they will revise their costs accordingly. At this point we're leaning toward Crown - biggest selling points for us are the fact that we'd only need to deal with a single company, can track our shipment online and they actually came out the cheapest per cuft. We were a bit surprised at the low estimated volume by Doree Bonner and kind of figure it's a tactic to come in as the lowest quote overall and then revise the volume later on which seemed a bit sneaky. I've gotten a lot out of other people's experiences summarised on here, so thought I'd return the favour. Hope this helps someone else!

    Advice needed re shipment please

    Hi guys Im heading back to Kent, UK very very soon and had one quote from a removals firm initially. They have quoted me a 40ft container which will cost me $10,000. Does this sound reasonable as I think its very expensive? Could anyone recommend anything else? Im happy to pack the house myself (although will need the boxes etc) or shall i try and sell some furniture? God, I was expecting between $6,000 and $8,000 so to hear $10,000 Im really shocked.     Shipment arrived early?

    Hi our container left the Uk heading for Brisbane on 1st Febuary. We were advised 10-12 weeks so had arranged accommodation and other things from our personal circumstances to be ready to have the goods delivered without having to pay storage/ extra costs. We had an email from the rep in Brisbane yesterday that our container has arrived, 7 weeks to the day it left. :eek: Now I know it's odd me moaning when most people are desperate for their containers but we don't fly out until 3rd April and have 4 weeks temp accommodation, we won't get into a rental until may which means we will be hit by quite a nice size bill for storage, storage insurance, and storage handling...:unsure: Anyone got any experience of this? And any chance I can claim somehow from the shipping company for the storage expenses? Long shot I know..... Just tell me to shut up if I am being ungrateful and just be glad my container is there:embarrassed:

    Shipment insurance

We have recieved our shipment only to be disapointed, the door has been heavily dented on our fridge freezer so we need to get a quote for repair not a problem just a pain, but we have several ornaments that have been either broken or damaged, insurance compant have said we need repair quote, some of things are not repairable as we do not have the reciepts how do we get a quote for them any help please as im sure youve had the same thing happen to you. We more upset as some of them are from various holidays.

Woo hoo after nearly half a year I am due to be reunited with all my stuff that I thought was so important I was prepared to pay large sums of money to send it all the way around the world.:huh: Dont get me wrong I am looking forward to getting hold of my photos and some other personal bits and bobs but to be honest I wish I hadnt bothered with the rest, we could have bought it all cheaply enough here. Ah well as I have no intention of shipping stuff overseas again, I will just have to put it down to experience. Seriously though, its a bloomin good idea to really sit down and think about what you feel is an absolute necessity in your life, because I actually like this more minimalistic life :cute:

    Our Shipment Has Arrived!!!

    At last our stuff has finally arrived! We used Crown & cannot fault their service at all. Everything arrived in one piece, not a single wine glass broken. Only downside was the long wait. Our house now feels like home. Also start my first Aussie job on 1st Dec so everything seems to be falling into place. Have a great weekend everyone.:jiggy:
  12. Hello, Can anyone offer any advice on insurance for household goods shipments? We have selected Pickfords for the move and are not sure whether to use their insurance or to go with Letton Percival, who have provided a much more competitive quote. Has anyone had to claim from either of these companies during their move and if so, how easy was the process and did the payment covers any losses? Also, we're not sure whether to go for 'all risks' or 'total lost'. Again, any advice would be gratefully received. Thank you. :eek:
  13. Hi, If like many other you have lost stuff from your shipment... will you please tell me! Currently constructing a website..intended to help those planning on coming over to Aussie or NZ. I would like to know the shippers, how it was shipped - full or part container, what went missing - shipper reaction to your "complaint" or insurance claim. And result of any insurance claim. Plus any additional info you think may help... I would like to know who YOU but.. NOBODY ELSE WILL! I think sits time that peopel using shipper were aware of the pitfalls of shipping your life in a box! I know its tedious and not much fun for you...but think how it may help others coming up behind us! TIA L.L.

    Car shipment HELP!!! Please

    :confused: Hi Can anyone help me, we are moving to gold coast as soon as visa granted and we were just wondering how much it is to ship our car over to Oz? We have a Saab convirtible and we love it, it seems such a shame to leave it behind and lose £££££'s on the sale of it! We would love to get the use of our convirtable with the roof down for a change as we rarely get to do that over here in sunny UK Ha Ha Ha. How much tax do ya have to pay, cost of shipment etc?     shipment worries!!

    :goofy:i know this sounds stupid,but just wondering how can you have your house hold items shipped from uk if you have no address at the other end,thinking of gosford area nsw.thinking of b&b for the first few days, will our belongings have to go in storage.if we find somewhere to rent while our belongings are on route,do we just contact the shipping company with our new address when we get there please can any one help us with any info.thanks!!:arghh:
