Hi, We are looking to move to Oz from the UK next year, but have no real idea of schools. We were wondering if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations. We are ideally looking at a secondary school with smaller classes, good pastoral care and a strong awareness of special educational needs. Both our kids have dyspraxia and slow processing, one has mild dyslexia, the other dyscalculia. They score very highly on cognitive tests, though. The state we end up in largely depends on which job I get, but probably one of Qld/SA/ACT. Visas are no problem, since the kids are Australian citizens through me (their Mum). Any suggestions/recommendations would be gratefully received! Thanks, Clare
DavLT posted a topic in VictoriaHi, moving this December (under 457), but still confused with narrowing down suburbs, primarily due to options for secondary schools. A lot of folks suggest the south east areas like Mount/Glen Waverley areas, however, of course, rent can shoot out pretty quickly there and we're looking for a 2-3BR for a fam of 3, the 3rd being a 13+yo teen. Any feedback on finding schools for teens? We're not looking for "top academic" type of environment but those schools that can offer the most experiences for our kid. Right now, Wantirna, Box Hill, MV areas are like the back-up, but we're a getting conflicting reviews on northern areas (Greensborough, Coolaroo, Bundoora, etc.) Of course, safety and lack of gang proliferation is key. CBD access isn't a major priority as long as there are nearby transport options as I'll be telecommuting. Cheers.
Darius Kedros posted a topic in EducationHi PIO people, My family & I are moving from Brighton, UK, to Melbourne's central northern suburbs in January 2013. Does anyone have the lowdown on government co-ed secondary schools in the Coburg, Fitzroy North, Brunswick, Thornbury, Fairfield areas please? My boys are not quite that age yet, but we're attempting to take their secondary education into account when choosing what specific area(s) to move to, or to avoid. We have been advised that the primary schools are generally very good in these areas, but the secondary schools are more varied. What might be really helpful to hear about is secondary schools to avoid, and schools to aspire to. Thanks in advance, Darius :happy_face_outlaw_s :animal-bat:
