Hi All I have had mixed responses from immigration consultants. I am starting a PGCE next school year and then looking to move with my family to Aus, so that I can start teaching there. Once I have done the PGCE, do I need to do a year of teaching before applying? Also are there any specific requirements or criteria that the PGCE needs to meet in order to be recgonised by the Australian teaching board? Thanks Darren

I know that this is a wide question, and I don't expect thorough answers as I will be doing my own research on it I just thought I'd ask if there are any drastic/obvious differences in the education system/school life in Australian secondary schools compared to UK ones? Is there anything that I need to be mindful of/take into consideration?) I don't necessarily mean bad things either, but things that could potentially surprise me when starting a new school? Anything at all would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi guys! This isn't super serious as I'm sure we'll manage, but I thought I would ask just in case I can get some firsthand tips and advice! I am due to complete UK highschool / my GCSEs around june/july time this year, and because of situations at home here in the UK, I believe I will be moving to Australia after I finish my GCSEs (so I will be 16). I was just wondering (as I know GCSEs don't really transfer well in the Australian education system) what sort of information/reports should I have from my UK school when applying to an Australian secondary school? What sort of information will they be likely to ask me to get a grasp of my skills etc. as a student? Progress reports? Teacher reports? Is it worth keeping a record of my assessment grades? Should I even bring physical/digital copies of actual assessments/tests? Any info would be greatly appreciated just to give me an idea of the sort of things Australian secondary schools will be looking for. Also; I think I will be moving to somewhere in NSW so if you have any info specifically for secondary schools in that state, feel free -- however any general info that will most likely apply to the majority of schools in Oz would be great. First time writing on this forum. We are thinking of moving back to UK (we left London in late 2010 and spent 2 yrs in Singapore, then the past 5 years in Sydney). Hubby is Aussie and I am Irish. Daughter is 12 in Nov and currently in Year 6. She’ll be going to secondary (year 7) in Jan (if we stay in Oz). Other daughter is 6. If we leave for the UK in Jan, will my eldest be eligible to go to secondary in UK in Aug/Sept? Would it work like that? Any advice would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks. 

We're moving out to Melbourne in August & are doing some research on schools. Our oldest son is 11 & will be moving to secondary school at the beginning of the next Australian school year at the end of Jan '15. We'd heard that if you lived in a school zone then legally the school have to give your child a space but I've just seen a post on another forum from someone who said a school had refused her child even though they lived in the zone. Can anyone clarify what the position is? Thank you!

We are lookiing to move this year to Melbourne with a 175. Can anyone giving me any tips about looking for a good secondary school. I currently work in a girls independent school.

Hi all, I am new member here.:unsure: I was wandering around this active forum for the last month, and finally decided to register. I am 32, from Bangalore, India. I had been an English teacher (MA BEd) in a reputed ICSE school, teaching English and History in secondary classes for 6 years, i.e. 1999 to 2005. I am willing to see if there is any oppo for me to come to oz. My wife too has the same qualification with English, but does not have exp.
