  1. Ballajura AFC is a football (soccer) club based at Kingfisher Reserve in Ballajura, (in Perths northern suburbs), where it has its own clubroom, full bar and catering facilities. Established 15 years ago the club has a strong set up with several hundred juniors (up to under 16 level), a masters team , ladies team and a Senior team who have just been promoted to Amateur Division 1 for 2009. Also in 2008, the Senior reserves won their League and the under 16 team were top 4 champions. The club is ambitious and is targeting further success and promotion to the Amateur Premier League. In order to support this objective and to take the club forward Ballajura is conducting an active player recruitment drive before the 2009 season starts in late March. The club is seeking to recruit experienced senior amateur or ex semi pro players for addition to the first team squad. Ballajura is an ambitious and forward thinking club. We have already recruited a number of new migrant players last season who helped in the clubs successful promotion to division 1 If you feel you fit the requirements and are interested in taking on this challenge please contact me to discuss. When is Hayfever season from/to?

Hi My daughter has hay fever. In England she starts taking medication 1 month before her hayfever is due to hit so that her system builds up some resistance in advance. We are hoping to arrive in Perth in December. Is this right in the middle of hayfever season? Is her hayfever likely to be as bad there as it is here? (Might seem like a daft question, but I wondered whether, if the breeze comes in off the ocean, then maybe it might not contain so much pollen). I am wondering whether to start giving her medicine in November. Any advice?

    WA Hayfever season.

When it is? I used to get hayfever in Scotland in the summer but as I have got older it has streched to all year as nearly everything effected me and I took tabs every day to help. I have been here since October and have never had any symptoms - the first time in years!!! BUT since Saturday I have felt miserable. Anybody else having problems? Mandy
  4. South Perth United Soccer Club off Manning Road, Manning only minutes from the Kwinana Freeway, Albany Highway and Leach Highway. We currently have a junior set up for ages up to 15 years as well as 3 men’s Sunday sides, Premier division, 5th division and Socials. We are in full swing of our pre-season training and are looking for promising players to bolster our Amateur premier division squad, who impressively won the 1st division league and the 1st division reserve league along with reaching the semi-finals of the amateur reserve cup. In particular the Premier squad is looking for a goalkeeper and a striker. Our promotion chasing 5th division squad is only looking for a goalkeeper. Pre-season training is on Tuesday and Thursday nights 7-9pm at Challenger Reserve, Challenger Ave, Manning. The club has a great set up, coaches as well as the social aspect of it. South Perth United is a multicultural club boasting talented players from over 10 different countries but also developing players up through the ranks from junior to senior football. If you’re keen or just want more info, send us a P or check out our sites: www.southperthunitedfc.com.au Thanks, Leo

  7. Merry Christmas to all on PIO!!! With all the doom and gloom at the mo, and what we have all been going through as well, which I have too have written about, I thought that it would be nice to write a christmas thread to see what everyone is up to over the festive season?? Christmas cheer!!! :goofy: Hopefully hoping that this is our last Christmas in the UK, we have been making the most of the snow we have had! My husband cannot get to work, so we have been enjoying some quality family time together, which we very rarely have. Yesturday we decided to wrap up, get the wellies out and go for a walk into our local village. What strange weather............. it reminded me of that film the day after tomorrow!!! It was snowing, then thundering?????, then hailing and the kids were saying 'we don't like snow it hurts!!'. Then snowing again! Then a rainbow came out and it was sunny. STRANGE!! :wideeyed: We had great fun in the park, and built a snowman in the garden. We took lots of pics to remind us when we get to OZ of our snowy hopefully last Christmas here! My Oh cannot get to work today either, there is no point in trying to risk even getting the van off the drive, so hopefully another family day together! What is everyone up to?
  8. That's why I have my MIL staying for Christmas. I'd rather not, but for the sake of goodwill and my husband she is coming to with us for Christmas, first time ever and I hope she puts on her happy face:rolleyes:. Anyone else doing a good dead this christmas or putting up with unwanted house guest! Also wondering what are the chances of getting to church on Christmas morning and the little one behaving herself once in there. :biglaugh:

  10. Hi All I need somebody who can explain the weather in the Northern Territory please. We have a member called Scott who is a Construction Plant Operator, involved with building and repairing roads and the pipes etc that go underneath them. Scott's occupation is in great demand in the Northern Territory. What I know about road building can be written on a stamp but I have been helping to compile a list of road building companies in the NT. I decided last night to ring up one of these companies to ask how the land really lies with them and how they feel about sponsoring migrants for the 457 visa. The guy who answered the phone was very helpful but he is a laconic Aussie who does not waste words! This guy is in Katherine, about 350kms South of Darwin. He told me that they currently have two members of staff on 457 visas, he is potentially interested in Scott and to send him Scott's CV. I was so taken aback that one cold call completely out of the blue should produce such an encouraging response that I didn't think to ask the guy anything else and anyway he plainly didn't want to chat too much. So I asked Scott to give him a ring, which Scott did. This gentleman in Katherine told Scott to send his CV and said that the company is about to shut down for the Wet Season. I know what a tropical monsoon is - I was born & brought up in Malaysia. However I don't remember life not continuing as normal during the wet seasons? The outdoor workers stayed indoors during rain but apart from that it was business as usual. Why would a road building company in Katherine close down for the Wet Season, please? How long would they close down for? Until March/April? I do know that Katherine is low-lying and the town itself is prone to flooding because of the river that runs through the town. Would a road building company based in Darwin close down for the wet season as well? I imagine that Darwin is urban and therefore should be all-weather terrain? Also, how far south do you have to go in order to escape the tropical weather at the Top End? Alice Springs is 1,800 kms south of Darwin and to judge from the pix of Alice Springs and the surrounding area, the climate is completely different from the climate at the Top End? Or is my supposition about this nonsense, please? I didn't even think about the weather to be honest. I assumed that road building and repairing would happen all year round so I am completely flummoxed by what the Aussie told Scott. Any advice/information would be very gratefully received. Many thanks Gill
  11. NEW PLAYERS WELCOME ! Ballajura FC are looking forward to 2009 as an exciting year. Promotion to Division One plus the start up of an under 18 side will present a big challenge to players and coaches alike. We have also had contact from a number of new players, interested in joining the club. A big year ahead for Balla ! Pre-season is planned to start on January 27 2009 and we encourage ANY players who are new to Perth or who may be looking for a change to contact the club or myself at anytime from now on. e-mail: ballajura.afc@gmail.com OR bill.byrne@hotmail.com Mobile: 0439 953 957 (Bill Byrne - Senior Coach) There is always room at Ballajura FC for experienced and talented players who can contribute to the club's ambitions.
