  1. Hi I thought I would post this about my plumbing assessment with victoria uni this week via skype as I searched and searched before it for information about it and couldnt find anything at all. So here is a run down and I hope it helps. I sat mine at Glasgow north college and was in a small room on my own. The woman at the college said they do them regular now and they normally last around half an hour, so I was shocked when the assessor said it would be over an hour long :chatterbox: The assessor was friendly enough but a lot of the questions I was uncomfortable with as there plumbers seem to do a lot more over there than we do in this country. It seems if your qualified as a plumber in oz you could probably run as prime mininster if you want to :biglaugh: Sections of questions were on Roofing???? fire hydrants and reels, Irrigation, Underground drainage, overground drainage, Gas, water. That was about it I think, only sections I got through no bother was the gas, drainage and water as that is what we actually do in this country :arghh: Anyone want more info on questions PM me. This whole process is a joke purely for the reason that after doing all this and the sheer COST of it, when you arrive in oz your about as qualified as a first year apprentice, if that. :wideeyed:

    Melbourne drinks, Sat 30th July

Hello, A few of us are planning a little get-together this coming Saturday if anyone's interested. I've arranged meet-ups on here previously and they're usually aimed at younger people who may have arrived here alone but all are welcome. Regards, John
  7. Hi Anyone interested in a final meet up before we fly out. We would like to meet up in Long Eaton or Derby if possible. So don't be shy come along and hopefully we can make some friends. P.s we are going to Perth!
  8. Wellington Point, Sat 25 June, 11am. The exact address for the sat navs is Main Road, Wellington Point, 4160. Just follow it all the way to the end until you reach the Pacific Ocean! As you drive down into the car park there is a childrens playground to your sharp left (under a huge fig tree and next to the man made beach). Suggest we meet there?. There are no BBQ's directly in the playground area but it is a short nip to one nearby. There is also a fish'n'chip shop for the less adventurous! Or a picnic is always an option. There is a nice long walk to King Island if anyone fancies it depending on weather / tidal timings etc. Hope to see you there
  9. Afternoon all My partner and myself (27) have been out in Perth for a couple of months sorting ourselves with jobs and accommodation etc but now it'd be good to grow the social scene. I know there was a social organised by Poms in Perth last weekend which we weren't able to go to so we wondered if there were people interested in an informal meet up on Saturday 18th June. The pub the Lucky Shag by the water front in town is nice and central. We'll be down there for some drinks and maybe a bite from around 2pm and any one who fancies joining us would be welcome.
  10. Hi anyone We have a sat nav that charges in the cigarette lighter of our car, I think this is 12v? Will it be able to be charged in Aussie cars? Thanks for any info Mal
  11. Hi , just wondered if any Geelong peeps are off into town on saturday night . Jo + Ed x
  12. Hi All, Due to the success of the last meet up arranged by Andy in the CityWest Hotel Dublin we are looking at another meet up for Sat 7th of May. Not sure of location as of yet as will wait and see who is planning on coming. We may change location this time to a more child friendly place. Andy suggested a Park and maybe we do a BBQ which sounds great (Weather Permitting) and we can meet earlier in the day to give more time for a catch up. Anyway leave your details and everyone is welcome. Look forward to catching up with everyone.

  18. As both UK passport holders do we just pay the 1st instalment of $2575 and not the 2nd instalment? My understanding from what I have read is that the 2nd instalment of $3575 is only for those bringing dependants that do not speak English?? Also has anyone sat the IELTS test? We are 5 points short of 120 so were planning to sit this to get an extra 10 points. My husband will be the one doing it and as already mentioned is English (born and bred) and competent at reading, writing, speaking and listening. Other option would be to wait until he has a years work experience in Australia (we are currently here on a 457)..... Any personal experiences would be much appreciated

    IELTS This Sat?

Hi I have just looked at the CPAA website and have discovered I need to sit the academic IELTS. I have contacted my local centre and they can fit me in on Saturday or I can wait until the 12 Feb. I have some practice materials (thanks Louey) and it looks fairly straight forward. Should I go for it on Saturday or hold off a few weeks and sit the test in Feb? As we are looking to SS I'm thinking the earlier the better as I will need my skills assessment before we can apply to SA and I worry about all the places for my profession going before I can get everything assessed lol.

    Sat Nav recommendations.

Im set to land in Melbourne next week, and have most things sorted. Except I need to get a sat nav as I have no sense of direction at all. In the UK a basic TomTom is £100 and works pretty well. What does a decent sat nav cost over there, and any recommendations?

    Sat Nav

Hello; Is it a cheaper to buy a sat nav / Tom Tom or equivalent when we are in Australia or buy one in UK and load Australian maps onto it? Does anyone have any experience of this? Thanks in advance.

Why not to use a sat nav in Bourke

Wait four days for rescue, family told | The Daily Telegraph You hear stories about semi trailers in England being sent down narrow streets and wiping out cars. Check this story out from the NSW Daily Telegraph about a Brit family following the sat nav in Bourke and getting stuck for 4 days, They got rescued in the end so you can laugh about it now, but why the hell would you need a sat nav in the middle of Australia? I have done a trip around Aus and many trips from Sydney to north Queensland without the need.
