  3. I know someone has posted this recently but I feel it needs to be made a sticky, there are lots of people who need to return to the UK and this is great news for them. I have attached the information from DEFRA, but briefly: Dogs/Cats now only have to wait 21 days from after the Rabies Blood Test No Blood Test for Dogs and Cats No Tick Treatment is required pb13582-bringing-pets-to-uk110706.pdf pb13582-bringing-pets-to-uk110706.pdf

    UK Passport EXPIRY

G'day, Does anyone know if there is a restriction on the expiry date you must have on your UK passport before emigrating to Oz? For example, we are coming over on a 457 visa, with my passport expiring in 3 years (2017)and my wife's in 4 years (2018). I'm worried that when we land in Melbourne the customs people stops us and turns us around back to the UK because our passport expiry is too short!? Sorry if this topic has been covered, thanks for any input. Cheers all,
  5. Hi all We have been lucky enough to have been granted a Skilled (migrant) (class VE) subclass 176 (skilled-sponsored) visa. We were sponsored by Adelaide but not sure if that means we are bound to live and work in Adelaide. Information on the interent is a little vague. We have been told it is only a moral obligation to live and work there, but wondered if there would be any fall out from immigration if we didn't live / work there. A 176 visa means we can live and work anywhere in australia but worried about the state sponsorship meaning more that just giving us the points we needed?? Arrrgghhhh can anybody help clarify this? Has anyone done it?? We really want to live in Perth where my family is. Thanks x
  6. Hi guys, I've just got wind of this - it sounds like some bureaucrats somewhere are trying to justify their existence! As of Jan 1, any vehicles with internal combustion engines being shipped in containers are now classified as hazardous goods. This also applies to any car on the water at that stage, so effectively, if your container hasn't already left, it will affect you. You have two options: the first is to make the vehicle non-hazardous, which involves draining the fuel tank and disconnecting the battery (which makes it a pain for moving around). The second is to cop the extra cost of labelling the container and filling out extra forms, which looks like being an extra GBP75 with the companies I regularly use. This only affects vehicles travelling in containers, cars being shipped on RORO aren't affected. The 'sarcasmist' in me wonders how we manage to drive our cars around without them exploding

    Starting a Business

Hi Guys, I've been speaking to a friend over here, who was asking about my working Holiday Visa.... And asked if they would be allowed to open a business whilst on a WHV? Does anyone know the rules about this? I can't find any information anywhere about the restrictions on opening a business. Any help that would be great. Thank you S
  8. Hi Please can some-one help I have a property in the UK I have been granted perm residents in OZ and will depart in January 2012 I am going to rent the flat in the UK I have filled out the UK non residents tax form so will get rent with no deductions I understand I need to complete a tax form at the end of the year as the UK will have first call on my rental income minus my personal allowance Since OZ collects on worldwide income I will get a tax credit from the UK and pay any extra tax owed in OZ So far so good I have a list of allowable expenses for UK rental income (10% depreciation for wear and tear, repairs, professional services and mortgage interest payments etc - on another matter I do not have a mortgage as I own the home outright and would be interested to know how I should make best use of the tax breaks e.g remortage or not etc) What I do not understand do I use the UK model for allowable expenses or do I need to use the OZ model. So I am getting around £13,000 a year in rental income before any expenses and before tax Do I use HMRC rules for allowable expenses on my UK rental income or the OZ tax rules I would be so grateful for help on this matter Also would welcome any professionals to approach me if they can offer a service to help me through this

    Contact lens rules

Am investigating what to do with my eyes whilst we are travelling around, and researching prices etc - my contacts seem a fair enough bit cheaper in oz than here in the UK, so was wondering what the regulations are on prescriptions etc over there? Here you need to have an opticians prescription saying you can have contacts before you can get them online for eg, do you need that in Oz too, and will they accept a UK one? If not (probably not), is it the same process as here (ie a few trips to the optician) and any idea of rough costs for contact lens trial to get that bit of paper? Cheers for any help anyone can give

    Rules changing for the royals

http://news.yahoo.com/girl-british-royal-succession-rules-change-104444789.html As a side question, is Kate Middleton now Princess Kate after marrying a prince? And would she then become Queen Kate if her husband becomes King???? Or is royalty by birth only???
  11. We are on a waiting list for permanent residency visa subclass 804 (aged parent). We bought our first apartment in 2008 following the FIRB rules of that time which dictated we must buy a 'new' property. We are now thinking of selling this apartment and buying another. Does anyone know whether we have to again buy 'new' or can we now buy 'previously owned' property? I have tried to get a definitive answer over the phone with the FIRB but not had any luck so has anybody have an answer to this question? Rgds topmast777
  12. Bought a car 2 days ago and got a parking ticket within the first 24 hours for parking facing the oncoming traffic which is apparently a no no. I hope someone else learns from it and avoids a fine. If anyone has any other simple rule differences from the UK that I should be aware of, please share.

  14. There is a very important and significant update in regard to pets travelling to Australia from UK As a results of UK allowing pets into UK more easily from Jan 1st 2012, the Australians have now classed UK as Rabies well controlled rather than rabies free. Which means that pets travelling from UK to Australia after Jan 1st 2012 now have to have pre travel rabies work. Pets have to have a rabies vaccination within 12 months of the flight date and at least 60 days before the flight, but ideally 6-12 months. They then need a rabies blood sample ideally at least 5 months before their flight date. It can be less than 5 months before their flight date, but they will have to spend longer in Australian quarantine if that is the case. The pets are allowed out of quarantine 180 days after the date of the rabies blood sample or 30 days after they land whichever is the greater. Basically - if you are thinking of going to Australia with your pet, start planning early, get the rabies vaccination and blood sample done. If you are planning to go in Jan or Feb next year - either try to send your pet before Jan 01st 2012 or be prepared for pets’ flight to be delayed or the quarantine stay be extended. Check out the following link for more information (the list of countries has yet to be updated by the Australians): http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/cat-dogs/countries/cat4

Dogs back to UK new rules

I was looking at bringing my dogs back to UK. As mine had rabies jab a year ago and bloods done, you can just give booster each year, but I missed the date and had to ask Oz exports about whether a few weeks made a difference. As I had to wait for a reply, I went on UK website for importing dogs in and saw a new rule that starts in January 2012, that dogs being imported into UK from Australia, need to have the rabies vaccination done, then 21 days later can fly to UK with no blood tests or quarantine period. It also says that dogs in quarantine who are still completing their 6 months after January 2012, don't have to complete this time and can come out. This is excellent news and we are now planning our move after this time so it will be cheaper, and we can collect dogs from airport straight away. Please check the Website http://www.defra.gov.uk For further info Hope this helps people

    Smp rules

I have applied for off shore permanent resident visa in July 2008, I applied as Corporate General Manager and I saw this profession is in demand in SA. I have few queries before I apply for this. IELTS exam which I took at time of submitting my application was then valid, Do I take again to apply with SA. My skills were assessed then I don't have to do again? I have not worked or lived in SA is that ok. I look forward to any replies. I appreciate your time. Warm Regards TR
  19. Education fees for foreign students' children 'breach' UN rules. INTERNATIONAL students and other temporary visa holders are being forced to pay thousands of dollars a year in fees for their children to attend public schools in a potential breach of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

    PR rules

Apologies if this is a duplicate thread If I get a PR visa through my company, am I allowed to leave Australia straight away? And if so for how long can I be abroad until my visa expires? I want to go to Europe for a year or so safe in the knowledge that I'll be able to return to live and work in sydney again
  22. Thats right.....France to quote Al Murray But on a serious note I'm starting to think that's where I am. I took the family out to lake mountain at the weekend for a bit of tobogganing, they've got a couple of 'runs' ie hills where they've set out a staring line then its every-man for themselves. Obviously this starting line's not good enough a few of the Aussie's and they're going twenty feet further up the hill and coming past you as you try and get the lad off safely. I'm sure that if they'd hit me and I'd landed on them it somehow would have been my fault. It seems that there's no waiting your turn or common courtesy in this place (could be just Victoria) as everyone is rushing to have the biggest and best experience. Are the British the only ones who consider that if we follow the rules everyone can have a good time. Rant over - Lake mountain's recommended though only 2 hours out of town. Just try and get a quiet day.
  23. I dare say this topic and question has been asked before, but maybe not as specifically as my circumstance. The spouse is employed by the ADF and therefore, we have PR Visa's. As an ADF member, the spouse gets Citizenship, along with the children after three months are up. I am not working and will be the only one in the family on a PR Visa, however, as the children's main carer, should we separate and divorce, where does that leave me in regards to entitlement, benefit and custody rights? Any sound legal advice would be welcome in this issue.
  24. Hello all, Would appreciate any advice regarding our obligations with regard to our visa application and the fact that my husband has 2 children from a previous marriage. If we're fortunate enough to get a visa it'll be just me, OH and our daughter making the move, his other 2 children will be remaining in the uk with their mum (we're assuming they would not want to come with us at this moment in time). What are our obligations regarding visa application, medicals etc? Any advice greatly appreciated, we're up against it trying to get everything we need submitted before the July criteria changes take place. Thanks in advance
  25. New rules match best and brightest migrants to places. PEOPLE who want to come to Australia as independent skilled migrants will have to ask permission to apply from next year. The federal government has announced radical changes to how it selects winners in key skilled-migration categories. From July 2012, many would-be skilled migrants will have to lodge an online expression of interest and wait for an invitation before they can make a formal application. The Immigration Department website says the new system will help "deliver the skills Australia needs by matching the best and brightest migrants to the available places in the migration program".
