Hi. I will be arriving in Sydney on May 3rd. I need a single private furnished room for not more than $150 including electricity, gas, water, internet and washing machine. I have no location preference as long as it is in Sydney. Please help me find one such room. I am looking forward to staying for at least 12 weeks. Thanks.

Have you ever had one of those times where it is so obvious that something should be said and aired but no one dare to because of the possible repercussions or embarrassment that 'may' follow, especially amongst company. You know, maybe your son/daughter has bought home a 'thing' that only a mother could love and you have to bite your lip. Or as happened once to me. My parents threw a going away party for me, many members of the family were there, but also some that weren't aware of one of my mates sexuality, he was gay, many people knew it, but some obviously didn't. Out (after some drinks) came the jokes about gay relationships and the like. The one's who knew about my mate said little as he could look after himself. But for a while my parents looked at me, I looked at them, and we just raised our eyebrows. Soon enough my friend said his 'piece' :biglaugh::biglaugh: and cut the offender off at the knees (never liked him anyway), but for a time there it was like an Elephant in the room, where 'most' knew and maybe we should have said something. Looking back it was very funny, but have you ever found yourself in a similar situation? Cheers Tony.

Hi, although waiting on AIR and MRTRBWA registrations for my wife, we hope to have everything in place with the 457 visa and be in Perth at the end of January for a February start for her. I meanwhile, am working in the offshore oil and gas industry in the North Sea, I am working for an oil company and will be leaving this and taking a leap of faith in looking for something offshore Australia. I've fired a lot of CV's off recently and have a few contacts, I work in production/control room and have rakes of experience. Anybody in this game, can give me a heads up or contacts?? Cheers Chris

Hi everyone. We are moving over in July *Huge Gulps* finally  I am hoping to buy a new dining room table and chairs and also some wall units and a new 3 piece suite to bring over with me. I read somewhere you had to pay tax on new furniture, is this right? If so, how can customs prove its new and we havent had it for a year? Sorry if this is sounding a bit thick, it is a Sunday after a Saturday night :biglaugh: Thanks in advance.

Hi, I’m moving over to Sydney next month and am looking for a room in a nice place. I’m looking for something in the Lower North Shore areas of Neutral Bay or Cremorne. I’m 27, from the UK. I enjoy my sports, travelling, music and keeping active. When I’m not at work I like to catch up with friends over a few drinks. Hoping to find a place with either a mix of girls and guys or just girls who are friendly, easy going, and a similar age to myself. I am very reliable, respectful and easy going. If you think you have something or know something that may be of interest to me, please email with details and if possible pictures. Cheers, Lauren

Hi all. I'm trying to do a bit of research. We're going on our Validation trip in Feb with a view to moving out permanetly in Nov this year. I am a Treatment Room nurse in Scotland and wanted to know if there is an equivalent in Australia. I aimed to start job hunting while there if Feb and wanted to know what kind of jobs to be looking at. Any information you can give me would be really appreciated. Cheers laura- 2 replies

Hi All, We have just had confirmation that our visa has been approved! We arrive in Sydney on Sun 20th Feb 2011 and will be looking for a short term rental for no more than a month when we arrive. We have looked at serviced apartments but they are a little pricey so wondered if anyone on here has or may know someone that has a room we could rent for a month? It will be just my husband and I. We can guarantee that it will be no more than a month as we HAVE to find somewhere within 30days ready for our dogs coming out of quarantine. Happy to consider most areas in Sydney as long as it is no more than an hours commute to CBD on public transport. I hope someone can help. Thanks in advance. Danielle and MJ Xx

OK getting a little worried now, we made a decission that we would go down the Privte route so contacted Peter Moyes Mindarie & St Marks Hillary's who both inform ,w that there is no room for our children and waiting lists are so long that it's very unlikely they would ever et a place. Any advice? I found these two schools on the find a school website, can anyone recomend a Private school in surrounding areas......

Mmm... I never quite know how to start on a forum. But i'm guessing that saying a BIG HELLO is a start! I've been looking at PIO for quite some time, although never felt it was time to join. Obviously until today that is. I'm an Australian, married to a lovely british man. And have two girls, soon to be 2 and 4yrs old. I moved over here back in Jan 02 to be with my husband (met him in Oz). I certainly can't complain, i've had many lovely times, met some amazing friends that I will always want to stay in touch with. And of course I have my beautiful children. Although......... i'm now 110% ready to move back. I know that many things have changed in Australia since leaving. Most of all the exchange rate and the general cost for things. Although many things haven't changed. The free b.b.q's at the parks, amazing walks in the coast and picnic's etc. My big dilema is, that my husband can't leave his job for at least another 2yrs. If we left then we would have not a lot in the way of savings. Especially after the cost of moving/starting up costs etc. But if he stayed in for 5yrs (taking us till 2015), we would have a large pay out from his job as well as a pension. Which therefore we wouldn't be starting off from scratch. I know that everyone's sensible head would say to stay for the sake of an extra 3ys. Although as i'm sure a lot of pepole know not everyone's case is not quite that straight forward. And there's normally some other personal factors involved. Anyway, I think that I may have 'overloaded' my very first post. Sorry. But I guess I was just wondering if there's anyone else in a similar situation. Regards AC

Hey all, I have been looking for a room in a Sydney houseshare for myself and my girlfriend to get an idea of location/price etc before we move towards the end of this year, however cannot find any easy way of doing this. Previously when I was there as a singleton, I used Gumtree which was great. However there is no option on there to select "available for couples" etc which isn't ideal. Are there any suggestions?! Thanks
