  3. hey there - have been here for 7 months - working part time and look after my fab girl too. Just split up with my man after 11 years and really want to meet some mums and dads who can meet and do family fun throught the day with me my gorgegous gal, and some like minded people to have the occasional night out with too, nothing too flash but a coffee or a cocktail as missing my friends and after the break up - I kinda feel alone in the big wide world!!
  4. Hi we're living in Bracken Ridge and wondered if there are any mums near(ish) who would like to meet up? I have 2 children one 9 year old girl who is at school and a 4 year old boy. Thanks Sam
  5. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on either of these schools? Looks like we will be starting off our adventure in Bracken Ridge and according to Google Maps these are the closest High Schools to our new Rental ( strangley Sandgate High comes up nearer than Bracken Ridge High). They look very different schools but results on MySchool appear similar ( not the best but OK). We will obviously check them out when we arrive but any thoughts on either ( or indeed any others in the area) would be much appreciated. Thanks Jen x:biggrin:

    Bracken Ridge

Hi, we re flying out in January, and are looking at Bracken ridge as a possible place to live, does anybody have first hand experience of either of the state schools there, we have children aged 7 and 16 and have heard that Sandgate maybe preferable for the older child as BR state high has a bad rep....
  7. Hello all, I'm looking at doing certificate lll in carpentry next year at acacia ridge, i was just wondering if anyone has done this course, and their thoughts towards this. I have been running by own home improvement business in uk for the last 7 years, where i install mostly upvc windows/doors/conservatories. i have carpentry skills in internal doors, skirting, wooden flooring, so i feel i have a head start for the course. My questions are: what standard a carpenter will i be after this course, and what sort of wage could i command on average. Also, i already have the ability to do certain modules ( i:e: installing windows and doors) can i speed through the course, or do i have to sit through the modules anyway. thanks for reading.
  8. Hi all, I run an English pub in Main Ridge. It's not quite the same as our good old boozers in London (from where I emigrated 2 years ago with my Aussie wife), but it's getting there! I'd like to get more expats in to let me know what they think, and to have a free pint on me if they mention this site! I'd love to have some pom friends over here (have none unfortunately!) so come on over. Billy Pig and Whistle 365 Purves Road Main Ridge
  9. We are due to arrive in Sydney in early-mid December and have found the perfect house in Barden Ridge but we have hit a few big stumbling blocks and wondered if anyone could suggest a way round them. The lettings agency won't rent to us until we, or a representative have seen the property. We don't know anyone in Sydney other than one or two people in oh's company who are permanently busy/on voicemail. The lettings agent suggested a broker of some sort but couldn't give any names and I've googled with no luck. Any ideas? Once the representative (if we find one) has seen the property, they MAY let it to us but there is a problem in signing the rental agreement - we need to be there for them to witness the signatures. We have offered to pay a deposit to hold the property but they seem reluctant to do so. Has anyone got round this? We are hoping to arrive around the week starting the 8th Dec. We have two small children and don't want to stay in a hotel above one or two nights. Holiday rentals at that time of year are extortionate, plus we don't want to move and then have to move again. Any ideas? I am stressing about having nowhere to live :arghh:
  10. Hi. We are moving to Sydney with hubbys job in December. He will be working in Hurstville, so we have been looking to try and find a rental in Sutherlandshire or thereabouts. We visited Sydney at the beginning of September and did have a good look around Sutherlandshire and it did seem very family orientated (we have two small children so we are after more of a family area than somewhere with nightclubs/bars etc - those days are long gone !). Anyways, we have been e-mailing real estate agents to try and pursuade them to let us organise a rental before we leave the UK. We have been contacted by one agent and told about a property that is well within our budget and on the details the house looks lovely. It is in Barden Ridge which, typically, was pretty much the only place in Sutherlandshire that we didn't look at! Has anyone been there/lived there and what was it like? I have looked on google maps etc, but there is only so much you can tell from satellite pics! Any help/info would be great. Thanks!

  12. Hi All, Well i have just started using this forum and i am addicted to it already!! Me, Stephen and our 3 kids Laura 14, Daniel 13 and Joseph 10 are moving to Brisbane on 28th February and i am frantically researching tne area around about where Stephen will be working. He will be working in Wooloowin but that looks a bit expensive so there is quite a few suburbs around there like Bracken Ridge, Bald hills, Bridgeman downs, Aspley and Albany Creek. Is there any of you lot living there?? or anybody got any info on the schools around there?? Bracken Ridge state schools look really nice?? Any info good or bad would be very much appreciated. We were originally going to Adelaide but everything changed when Stephen got a job offer in Brisbane just before Christmas!!! Since then have been panic mode:chatterbox:dont know wether i am coming or going!! Looing forward to hearing from anyone!! Nicola x
