    Retraining whilst waiting for visa

Hi, I am currently a midwife and have always wanted to be a sonographer, so I could have a duel qualification. Obviously I would have to go back to university to do this so I was wondering once our visa application was in would it be possible for me to do this? The fact that I wasn't working as midwife and would be a student, could this affect our application. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks Jen

Re-training as a bricky in Oz?

Hi all Fantastic site! Not had much of a life away from PC since finding it! I'm 26, Rach is 27, and we have 2 nips, age 8 (Dec) and 18mths (Maddison). I have worked as a fire sprinkler fitter for just over 12 months with no formal qualifications. Before that i have been a site labourer and also office based! Rach is currently in an office based/admin role for over 8 years (also no quals). Since I have no qualifications I feel like I should choose an occupation that really appeals to me and stick with it - Bricklaying in Australian sun (sounds great to me) So, we are looking to lodge an app for Student Visa (572) so i can study Bricklaying at TAFE Gipps in Melbourne, VIC. Our route is then to apply for graduate visa (485) to gain work experience, followed by an application for Perm. Residence. I have thoroughly researched into the proccesses and often been confused. Our house is going on the market in next week or 2 under price for quick(er) sale. We stand to make around £40K from this which will be our budget. We not big spenders so feel we can manage with this after working out school and course fees, rentals, car, etc. Just worried with these changes and the current climate. Don't want to end up back in England with all lost, after studying in Oz! I invite people to shoot holes in my plan! Seriously, any advice greatly appreciated. Many many thanks Ant and Rach

    Retraining new country new career

For someone who already has a PR visa and over the age of 40. What is the best job to retrain for in terms of getting a job? Has anyone retrained and successfully and obtained a job? How much did it cost , how long to retrain?

    Advice on retraining

My OH has just recently been offered employment as a nurse and I am planning to go out with her on her visa. I currently work as an insurance broker and always wished that I had learned a trade. I feel that the big move to Oz may be my last opportunity to retrain to be an electrician or something similar. Can anyone give any advice on how to go about learning a trade in oz, the routes to go down and if this is at all possible for me to completely change career paths.

    Re-training in oz

Hi all, We are currently in oz for a month as we are trying to find a sponsor for either myself a sales manager in telecomunications or my girlfriend who is a child care assistant. To say it is difficult would be an understatement as potential employers get excited about our experience until you say the dreaded sponsorship word as they need someone now and not in a few weeks. We are now on the 4th week and are looking more seriosly at re-training over here. To be honnest I will probably be using it just to gain my PR and then return back into sales as this is the area I enjoy. Is / has anyone else been in the same position as I am looking at courses and havn't got a clue what to do ?? I am looking for the cheapest / easiest course that will get us here. Would be great to here from people who are currently re-training as we are concerned about money with only being able to work 20 hours per week. Have you got any tips / advice - did you use a student recruitment comapany simliar to these guys http://www.thisisaustralia.com/index.asp any help and advice would be great. Thanks in advance for any help / advice Andy & Jess ps anyone in Perth who is re-training would be great to pick your brains whilst we are here for the last week. Beers on me

  10. Hi, I am looking to re-train as a nurse initially (and then midwifery) in either Melbourne or Brisbane. Have briefly looked at Holmesglen for Melbourne, and Metropolitan South/Griffith in Brisbane. Bringing husband and 3 sons age 12, 9 and 5. Has anybody already done this or similar or considering it themselves - would love to chat further - pros/cons, costs(!!!!) (as in the most affordable option), experiences etc. How do you know good areas/bad areas to live, distances from campuses, schools etc., etc.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I am currently in my 30s and hope to be retrained for some new skills to settle into my new life in a new country. What are the skills in demand in WA?
