  1. Hi I've been in Melbourne for just over 6 weeks now. I have been on seek, indeed and gumtree as well as a few others looking for work in retail or hospitality. Ideally a little cafe or shop close to public transport. I'm living in Brunswick. I have several years experience in both up to a supervisor level, however I am finding the minute they hear working holiday visa I'm seen as no good. I will be getting sponsored by family here within 12 months so I don't intend on leaving anytime soon. If anyone has any advice or contacts I would really appreciate it. Thanks
  2. Hi, has anyone got any recent info on what it's like to get a teaching job or retail management job in either perth or Melbourne please  Thanks

  5. Hi, I was just wondering if anyone had used the VAT Retail Export Scheme prior to their departure. I was thinking of buying a watch locally here in London, and taking it with me to Australia next month. I've looked on HMRC's website and the process seems fairly straightforward and with VAT at 20% it seems a very good deal! Has anyone here used the scheme recently? Do they really just pay out the cash at the airport, even if its say over a grand?! Cheers. Tom

  7. Please help me, I am 31, wife is 29 yrs and daughter is 3yrs. We desperately want to make a new life in Australia on a perm basis and get out of UK. We were told that the 175 visa is the best but takes time. My wife is a deputy Manager at a retail store in the UK and I work for the Home Office, I was advised by an agent that she needs to get a reference for the last 3 years she has been working as a deputy Manager. She has a bachelor degree in Business Administration which is 3yrs. The agent has said that her skills would come under 'General Manager' but I cant see it on the new list. And i dont want to be led by the agent into something that is refused and my money/time is lost. Please advise if her occupation would come under the list If there are any other visas which would benefit please let me know. Thanks Krazy79
  8. Hi all As lots of you may know I'm only young... lol the ripe old age of 18 (well, nearly, it's 11 days off yet!) and I am going to Brisbane at the end of July/beginning of August! I'm half stoked, and half not. The pain of leaving one person in particular is worrying!! Anyway. Jobs!! I have worked for just under 2 years in Sainsbury's and have handed in my notice obviously to leave for Brisbane in the next month. I have also asked nicely for a written reference from my manager there, so we're talking 21 months in the same part time job, in the same position, customer service (EFTPOS, money handling, and customer service experience all come naturally!) I've been looking for a retail job. I thought I'd found one in Brisbane with JB Hi-Fi. But then I decided not to apply when I read something about "100 points"!! Passport = 70? Then other forms of ID needed to make up the remaining 30 points all with different values!! Some other stuff was like Birth Certificate, Medicare card etc. What's this all about? Will most/all retail jobs ask for it? Do you ideally have to be living in Aus before you apply for jobs like these? Secondly, is there any services like in the UK there's Connexions who provide lots of youth services including help with interviews/job searching and applications?? Thirdly, being 18 upon arrival will I need a TFN and will it affect my ability to work etc? Ta for any help in advance! :cute: Luke
  9. Hi All:sad: First this is hard to write, so bear with me. We arrived on the Gold Coast on Boxing Day (09), OH found work after a month of arriving here he is a bricklayer. When we lived in the UK I was a Sales Supervisor for Whsmith at Manchester Airport worked there for 10 years, I have been looking for work here every day, been on all the websites, applied for the Theme Parks, Coles Woolies ect, been for 3 interviews, but always get turned down, don't know if its because they want younger people, pay them less, or it could be me, so if any POM'S see any retail jobs around Helensvale or near here, don't mind travelling may be up to 30mins (as we have a son would like to me there in the morning for him) could you like me know. Thanks Paula xxx
  10. Hi, I recently arrived in Melbourne after 2 months of travel and my wardrobe is a little 'worn'! I'm looking for work here and could do with some recommendatins of decent brands to shop at. In the UK I'd go to Zara, French Connection (I've seen FC here so that's great!) H&M, Topshop, etc I'm basically looking for a black shift dress for interviews. Info about other great places to shop would be appreciated too as I'm in retail (Assist Man / Vis Merch Roles) and if a place is great to shop at it's often great to work for! Any help info GREATLY apreciated, as it takes it out of you walking around the shops in this (delightful) heat. Thanks  Bella

Hi Just wondering if any one has been successful in gaining a retail management /area management position in Australia with their experience being from Uk? We are hoping to go over on my hubbys trade but once there are hoping that I will be able to get a retail management job as I have over 10 years experience at this level and have a pretty well paid job in UK. Do australian employers recognise UK experience or would I need to start as sales assistant and work my way up again?? Any advice?
