    Sunday Nights in Geelong

Hey guys, my partner and I have been house-sitting in Geelong West for about a month, tomorrow we are celebrating our one year anniversary together and I would love to spend the evening in Geelongs CBD or the Packington Street area in a cool, trendy bar and possibly finish up in a nice Indian restaurant. We've been out in the city a few times but I haven't really found anywhere with a vibrant, young feel and was hoping you lovely lot could throw some suggestions our way! Thanks in advance, Maxine ❤

Hey Folks! I'm hoping to be out in Melbourne by October this year with my partner, we enjoy eating out a lot of the time and i've done a reccie of the restaurants in the CBD etc and have seen some that have caught my eye! What i want to ask PIO members is, what are your top 3 places to eat in Melbourne, not just the CBD, anything counts, chains, independent, coffe shops, cafes etc etc. Cheers Drew

    European Restaurants

One thing I am amazed by is the volume of European style meat+beer style restaurants in Sydney. There's the Belgian bier cafe (x3), the Lowenbrau (in the rocks), the Bavarian bier cafe (x2), Prague (potts point), and IMO the crème de la crème L"a Boheme" in Balmain, which is pretty much my local Personally I absolutely love it. Though I do now have a certain level of sorrow for pigs. They feature in pretty much every dish. La Boheme for me represents a tremendously good value place to eat. The food is delicious, huge and the atmosphere is brilliant. In an ironic twist, the thing that I would miss if I went back to the UK was the availability of such numerous Germanic/Dutch.Czech eateries in close proximity, without having to jump on Ryanair and visit the country in question! There are also a few good French places around too. Le Grande Boeuff in Rozelle being my current favourite. There was a great one in Leura in the Blue Mountains with an argueing French couple. The food was divine but the atmosphere was a bit of a trainwreck! Might have been called The Goblet or something similar, I dont recall Anyone got any favorites or similar recommendations? (Sydney or further afield)

    Indian Restaurants in the UK

Essex, didnt quite know where to reply to you regarding Indian Restaurants, did want to continue using Perth princess's thread. there is a wonderful restaurant near St. Georges Hospital Sree Krishna at Tooting Bec Southern Indian excellent vegetarian as well as meat I used to go there weekly and extremely reasonable the above is very popular with health personnel from the hospital being reasonable priced. I also love Nepalese restaurantsNatraj 93 Charlotte Street London W1P 1LB Tel: 0171-637-0050, wonderful food and again very reasonable. I have to agree with you Essex, the UK is prob. the best for Indian food Lahore Restaurant 2-4 Umberston St E1 Thats excellent as well Essex, I often go there when I am in London, spotlessly clean no decor at all, a sink to wash your hands in the restaurant and you sit down at scrubbed tables. Excellent curries and when you go to pay they say "give us what you think it is worth"! & BYO from the offie around the corner.:wubclub:
  13. Loads of new places opened in Rockigham shopping center by the cinema. The new Indian opened this week, ment to be good. Off to try it on Friday!! Then noticed there is a sign for a place next door to it called Mash Brewery?? Anyone been trying the new places??
  14. Australia has a reputation for being a healthy, sport loving nation, so why on earth are there are so many fast food restaurants over here? There seems to be more 'Maccy D's', Red Roosters, Hungry Jacks, Chooks, Chicken Treats and KFK's per square inch in the suburbs of Perth than there are houses. Some main roads are like the junk food equivalent of the Vegas strip. It's made even worse by the constant advertising as well. Every other advert on TV has some dopey looking guy on top of a crane enjoying his 'wrap and a cap'. We're told that McDonald's is the only place you should get your breakfast, Hungry Jacks is the perfect solution for lunch and the Red Rooster is the best place to buy your Sunday roast.. what happened to buying a bird and cooking it yourself? It's an accepted fact that lots of parents in the UK are now getting away with murder, but I was hoping it wouldn't be the same here. It's a pity the Australian government aren't focusing on the problem of obesity a little bit more. The Biggest Loser aside, there doesn't seem to be much on TV to tackle the issue. The GB govt may have some rather far-fetched and ludicrous ways of trying to find a solution, but I guess at least something is being done. Nicola Roxon (the Australian Health Minister) is trying to phase out junk-food advertising on television before 9pm, but lets be serious that will never happen. What on earth would they fill the airwaves with? More car ads? Perhaps they should start by showing the food how it really is, instead of the plumped up version they like to portray. I used to do the advertising for McDs, and trust me, that ain't real food you're looking at! From what I have seen on trips over East, even Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane didn't seem as bad as Perth for fast food restaurants, and friends who visited from Sydney were shocked at the amount of places over here. Is the East coast different to Perth, or has the country been completely been taken over by chicken nuggets and chips?! Of course I expect some comments to fly back telling me I shouldn't let my kids watch any TV or it's up to me what I feed them - true and it is. But advertising goes way beyond just the TV, and my kids should be so lucky as to even get a sniff of a chicken nugget! :twitcy:

    BYO Restaurants

Hi all, Was wondering about BYO restaurants as never been to one before. Do you take all drinks ie; Wine , Beer, soft drinks ? Think I will have to have an a trolley to carry it all? Do they advertise on the shop front that they are BYO? Do you take your own glasses? Sorry for the questions but don't want to look to much like a newbie in September. Thanks Jackie x
