  1. Hi All, my job offer has now come in (on a 457 visa) and just doing the final household calculations to see if we can survive on my single salary. Looking at the rental market first until my wife has sorted her registration papers and exams to become a practicing Physio, (she has been a professional Physio for 20 years, anyway that is another story) what we have been wandering is that...... is the rental charge all you pay or do you have to pay the council tax and water rates etc as in the UK? or does that fall on the landlords shoulders. I understand we pay the utilities bills (although that would be good if we didn't and that was the landlord too) Can anyone advise what you pay above the rental price quoted? i.e $450 per week + + +. Also any links for calculators would be useful Thanks. We have also found it difficult to budget an expected cost for a "Council Tax" type equivalent for properties any help on this would also be appreciated.
  2. Hi folks, We're moving to Melbourne this December and we obviously are going to need some place to stay.. The thing is I'm not sure how can I find an apartment remotely? Is it even possible? How can this be done? To complicate the things even more, we land at December 28, which is 3 days before Sylvester and it's also a weekend, so I believe that the city will be "paralyzed". I'm really stressed about this and I consider to move our flight few days forward to Jan 3. Any suggestions? Thoughts? Thanks!!
  3. Hi I am in the throws of applying for my 176 Visa for a move to Melbourne. Myself, my wife and 2 young children are looking to have a 'reccie' holiday early 2013 to find out the best suburbs to rent/buy in and also to look for possible jobs for me. Does anyone know of any holiday homes available or temporary rentals that we could get for 2-3 weeks? Or know anyone that has a place? Cheers guys
  4. Hi I'm Sheree, I'm new here. As the title says I can help around melbourne.
  5. Hi As most of you probably know, we provide short term furnished rental property in Melbourne near the CBD and also in and around the Mornington Peninsula. Now this is fine for when you first touch down but a lot of people seem to be having trouble with finding a long term rental when they arrive. I have now spoke with the rental manager at a well established realestate agency and she is willing to work with us and accept people arriving to Melbourne without the need for payments in advance and references etc. They deal with rentals in Frankston, Frankston South, Mornington, Mount Eliza, Mount Martha, Seaford, Carrum Downs, Pakenham and other suburbs around these areas. Unfortunately she cannot accept your application until you have viewed the property, but you can always get a short term rental for a few weeks and then look at the properties. She has just had 4 brand new builds go up for rent in Mornington this week. So please people don't worry there are agents out there who are more than happy to help:notworthy:

    Hi from Downunder Welcome!

Hi everyone, I thought I'd introduce myself! I'm Amanda from Downunder Welcome Melbourne. I was born in country Victoria, and have lived in and around Melbourne all of my life. I love Melbourne’s culture – there’s nothing I enjoy more than a day at the National Gallery followed by a wander through our botanic gardens and a good coffee. Having a background in real estate and customer service, I am uniquely placed to assist in all of your needs in coming to a new city. Feel free to ask any questions you may have... about my wonderful city, where to live, sightseeing, renting a home, where to eat... anything you like! Looking forward to seeing you Downunder one day, Amanda
