  1. Hi It has been mentioned in a couple of places but not everyone may be checking those threads so I thought I would open a separate thread. Here is the link to the the latest release of details about the points test - came out yesterday I think The pass mark for points is still 65 http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/pdf/points-test.pdf

    New SOL release date

Any idea on the new SOL release date?.. and what's happening with the cap and cease bill? Btw, is there a limit to the number of permanent residency visas granted each financial year and if so, what is it and where can I find it?
  3. I spoke to a nursing agency today and they told me that despite nurses being told that they don't need the IELTS test by some workers at AHPRA, they have had a letter this month from senior managers to say any nurse outside Australia must pass the test. Anyone submitting without the IELTS exam will only be granted part registration- which will be useless. HOWEVER, AHPRA have released a statement today regarding English language requirements. The statement says " applicants taught and assessed in his/her tertiary entry to practice nursing and/or midwifery education in English in the countries listed here (Australia, Canada, N.Z., Ireland, South Africa, U.K. and America) may be considered to have met the English language skills registration standards". But the first part of the release seems to indicate that English nurses do. What does anyone else think? Cath
  4. Rosie came out on the hottest day to date for us, 40 degrees. She has put on quite a bit of weight, but she is in great condition, no dog smell, shiney coat, nails had been clipped and she was full of beans. I didn't exercise her because of the heat, and tried to introduce her to the paddling pool I had bought her. Not keen at first but now happily jumps in and out during play with her ball. She pee'd on the carpet when she first arrived home, but I expected that. Now she is back to normal toilet habits thank goodness. She is terrible on the lead, pulling like a train, she is so glad to be out and about. I hope I get her back to heal again soon, as my left arm is getting longer than the right one. It is so good to have her back as it makes you feel more at home. She certainly does not seem to have had any lasting affect from being in quarantine for 30 days. Now we just need to find a good pet friendly rental!!:jiggy:
  5. Hi All Has anyone actually had state sponsorship before the state migration plan was released. I have had mine since June and my occupation is now on there. I know that this means I move to cat 2 but I wonder does the new work experience rules apply to me. My Trade is Solid Plasterer and am not sure how much work experience was submitted with my SS application although I already have SS since June. It's really confusing! Can anyone help?
  6. Here is Chris Bowen's press release on the new points test. Not much detail, but it doesn't take effect immediately which will be good news for PIO members. The new points test is proposed to take effect from 1 July 2011, subject to passage of supporting legislation through the Parliament. It will apply to anyone lodging an application from 1 July 2011. 7. COMMENCEMENT OF ACT STATE MIGRATION PLAN Federal Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Chris Bowen MP, and Australian Capital Territory Chief Minister, Jon Stanhope, today announced the commencement of the ACT State Migration Plan. “State Migration Plans are part of the Gillard Government’s continued commitment to supporting the Australian economy by attracting skilled migrants who can positively contribute to our workforce,” Mr Bowen said. “The implementation of State Migration Plans will provide flexibility for state and territory governments to nominate skilled migrants in a broader range of occupations than are currently offered on the Skilled Occupation List.” “The ACT has amongst the strongest economy of any jurisdiction in Australia with extremely low unemployment,” Mr Stanhope said. “This has led to skills shortages in some areas and the State Migration Plan will complement ACT Government initiatives to help alleviate these shortages.” State Migration Plans are agreements between individual states and territories with the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship. The agreements specify an overall number of applicants that each state and territory can nominate and what occupations they can nominate skilled migrants to work in. While state and territory governments have always had the capacity to nominate applicants for the purposes of the General Skilled Migration Program, the introduction of these plans is intended to improve the targeting of this part of the program.
  8. Are you a betting man/woman?? I thought it might be a fun idea to hold a sort of competition about the release date of the first SMP. There won't be any prize per se, other than the winner will get to bask in the glory that they were right!! :spinny: Respond to this thread stating which state you think will release their SMP first and on which date. You don't have to name a particular state if you think that the release will be synchronised - ie all states being released on the same day, just reply "synchronised release" Only one person can nominate any particular state on any particular date, so first come first served. (more than one state can be nominated per date, so for example somebody might say VIC on the 21st August and somebody else might say WA on 21st August - thats fine) :policeman: I'll go first and say synchronised release - December 1st, reason being it'll be our 1st anniversary since lodging our visa, and have no other way of predicting :goofy: I'll try to keep the list updated as often as I can on the front page so people know whats still available. Ill use a colour key as shown below to identify which state any particular person has chosen. So come on peeps guess away, cos lets face it, thats what this whole charade is just lately a guessing game!! Final date for entries: 20th August 2010 Colour Key: Synchronised Release ACT NSW WA SA VIC QLD NT TAS July 22nd 23rd 24th 25th 26th 27th 28th 29th John gilfilan Winner of the Losers!! 9. ACT Government State Website is showing undermentioned message on their website which states October for release of SMP. Now they will be changing this message and showing some information like November or in few weeks. ACT will inquire with DIAC to confirm when they can expect SMP and according to that they will provide information on their website. So the only state which we can look for more information on release of SMP is ACT. Message showing on 1st Nov 2010 on ACT website :- 2010/2011 ACT State Migration Plan (SMP) Skills List. It is expected that the 2010/2011 SMP Skills List will be published in October 2010 when the ACT State Migration Plan is announced.
  10. Like everyone else we are just waiting for WA to release their smp so that we can get our application in. My hubby is a motor mechanic so fingers crossed it should be on the list. As everyone is suggesting that the 1st November may be THE date, is there anything that I can be doing in the meantime to be prepared for the release? My hubby has passed his vetassess and we have scanned all of his certificates and references. If anyone knows of anything else that we would possibly need, or should prepare this would be a great help. Thanks
  11. Hi I wondered if anyone can help we currently are renting out our family home in the Uk and have quite some equity which we would like to release but our current mortgage lender says unless wages are being paid into a Uk account then they will not remortgage? Is this the rule for all lenders ? If not, we are in a position to change mortgage providers so can anyone recommend a company that would enable us to do this. Thank you Debs and Gaz

  15. THE ANGELS | PRESS RELEASE | 6th April 2010 Not Since The Beatles! In June 1964, over two hundred thousand people saw The Beatles show Adelaide how to play at the Adelaide Town Hall for a Mayoral Civic Reception. Now… The Adelaide Lord Mayor is to honour classic rock band The Angels in the same way, with one exception, The Angels don’t need to show their hometown anything, they already know how to Rock! The Angels have been invited to a Lord Mayoral Reception at Adelaide Town Hall hosted by Lord Mayor Michael Harbison, on Friday 16 April, the eve of their Orchestral Collaboration debut ‘Symphony Of Angels”. In the past month The Angels have been unveiling a chain of amazing events including the release of a new classical version of their monster hit ‘Take A Long Line’ which was produced by the band. The new track was met with such an astounding response, that the Triple M network with Ugly Phil picked up the new single the same day it was released and the switchboard lit up with requests, something that Triple M hasn’t seen in a while with a new song. Channel Nine’s high rating weekend show ‘Postcards’ aired on Sunday 21st March in Adelaide to one of the shows strongest weekend ratings. The show featured a behind the scenes peek at the recording of the new orchestral release of “Take A Long Line” at Alberts Studios in Sydney and the orchestra rehearsal at The Town Hall in Adelaide and MixMaster studios. Popular ABC show Spicks and Specs have recently invited Doc Neeson to appear on the Show, the pre-recorded segment will go to air on Wednesday the 14th of April, don’t miss the comedy and fun that will unfold with a few surprises. New 457 Regime

Many 457 changes have been announced today, including a generous extension allowing up to 12 months leave without pay. Too much to summarise, see Agents Gateway . Cheers, George Lombard
  17. Hi Sorry new to the site so hope I'm doing this right. My husband and I are hoping to move to australia gathering info at the moment before going ahead with visas. going on hubby's skills. He is a mechanical engineer who makes parts for aeroplane engines. He is also doing his engineering degree at the moment and was wondering if anyone knew if any companies offer day release so he can finish his degree while working over there. We are hoping to live in or near perth as he has family there. Also if anyone knows any info on mechanical engineering vacancies, schools for kids(9 and 6), cost of living etc It would be greatly appreciated. jack&mick
  18. Hello Can anyone help us out there?! We paid a UK agent to organise the transport and shipping on the UK side. We have been trying for at least 3 weeks to get the Bill of Lading (Title deeds to our goods in that container) released and he keeps saying they're on their way, etc! Now the ship has docked in Brisbane and we've finally managed to get hold of the shipping line he used, and it turns out the agent hasn't paid the shipping line so they're refusing to release our container! :arghh:We've paid in full from our side before the lorry came with the container to load our stuff end of August! So the shipping company still have the Bill of Lading sitting on their desk in the UK. If the agent pays via Chaps, the container can be express released without need of getting the Bill of Lading to Brisbane physically, which would work well. Meantime if the agent doesn't pay (as I strongly suspect is the likely outcome), we're going to start incuring hefty Wharf Storage charges from Wed/Thu on a daily basis. Please help. Has anyone else been in this situation or know what we can do. I'm kicking myself for not having paid by Credit Card in the UK, as there looks likely no way of getting our money back. Even if we were to pay all over again, by credit card from this side directly to the shipping line, it would still take days to clear and we'd be penalised again for storage fees, never mind having paid double for the job, which should not be our responsibility. Help. Is there some legal course we can take. I only wish we'd cottoned on to this weeks ago when there wasn't yet the deadline and time pressure. Please, if anyone can help us out with some sound advise, it would be greatly appreciated. :arghh:
  19. HI all My friend Lisa is in strife and I am hoping that we may be able to help her. Lisa has recently migrated to Adelaide with her husband and children. They paid a remobals company in the UK to pack and send a container to Adelaide. The container has reached Adelaide but the company there refuses to release it, claiming that the UK company owes them money. The UK company is not answering the phone or responding to faxes and e-mailes so they might be about to go bust, I fear. The container contains all of Lisa's husband's certificates confirming his qualifications. His new employers in Australia are demandng proof of his qualifications. It also contains all their furniture, crockery etc and they have agreed a rental of an unfurnished house from 24 October. Can the Australian company hold Lisa's container to ransom in this way? Can anybody suggest what she ought to do? I have absolutely no idea about shipping and international removals, so I haven't got a clue what to suggest and would be very grateful to anyone who can suggest anything. Many thanks Gill
