How do I get my UK qualifications (NVQs) recognised in Australia
Guest posted a topic in Careers and Vacancies
Hi everyone I am a teaching assistant, I have worked my way up through my qualifications from and NVQ 2 to now holding my Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA). I want to eventually work here in and am currently living in Berwick, Victoria. My dilemma is I do not know where to start regarding finding out if my quals will be recognised here and if they are, what if anything do I need to do to make them official??? Many thanks in advance to any help offered -

Hi All, I have been seriously thinking of a career change into nursing. I have looked into this and think I would enjoy the job. From looking at the entry requirements I would meet the requirements of a post graduate diploma, which mean I would qualify in after two years on study. However I am not sure this would be recognised in Australia. I have seen than nursing diplomas are recognised, but cant find anything about the post graduate diploma. Looking on AHPRA's website it states post graduate courses are accepted - but must be at least 6 semesters in length - which I thinkg my post graduate course would not be (I think its only 4 semesters - but maybe they mean tearms, in which case it would be fine). Please - can anyone help! Thanks

We are possibly coming over to Oz on a 457. We are looking at all our options for PR in the future in case it doesn't work out or lead to ENS 856. DH has an occupation that is on a few of the State lists (I know this can change at any point). He has enough points and experience but the only problem is that he can't pass the skills assessment without a degree. Realistically our only option is the OU. Anyone know if this would work, or how to find out? Various internet searches haven't helped so far. Many thanks.

we was going to go for our skilled visa as partner has had 7years experience plastering, but have now found out we have to wait another 12months as he has to of had 3 years experience plastering AFTER he gained his qualification ( he only has 2 years experience) ---> big knock back number one! We have now found out, but not 100% sure that he has to have his level 3 (he has level 2) We have been emailing TRA and blue migration as to what to do now etc. They have said we need to get his trade recognised in Australia which will cost 3k- i thought that TRA- was to get your trade recognised- so now we both really confused! ---> another big knock back! Any one explain to us any better please? and if we do pay this 3k to get his trade recognised- does this mean he doesnt need to get his skills assesed by TRA? And do we still need to have the 3 years experience AFTER he gained his qualification? ~confused~ Kind regards

Hi, I am completely new to this and have come here to see if anyone else is having the same problems we are. We moved to Melbourne nearly a year ago with our two children 8 and 6. We've noticed now that our 8 year old daughter is really starting to struggle at school and has all the classic symptoms for dyslexia, however much to our dismay we have found that it is not 'recognised' here or as the school put it to me, there are those who thinks it exists and those who dont. I got the distinct impression she was in the latter camp!!! Anyway, we've had her privately assessed and our worries confirmed, but we dont want to pay $2,500 for 7 days worth of private assistance only to have it undone by the school (who are now going to get her assessed by a psychologist). As anyone else out there come across the same thing as we really don't know what to do for the best. Any help, advice, recommendations, forums etc would be most welcome. Thanks

Hi All Anyone in the motor trade used ATA certification as part of their proof for visa application? Visa agent asked if we could find UK company that could certify hubbys skills as car painter, but I'm getting the vibe from other sources that we would need to have this done via Vetasses? Anyone know anything? He is booked for ATA certification this Thursday so would appreciate any feedback especially if it can save us the money of the certification Cheers Candice

Hi, Given how very particular VETASSESS are about an overseas degree being "comparable to an Australian Bachelors Degree", hopefully, someone way smarter than me will be able to help out. If I have a BSc (Hons) Occupational Health, Safety and Environment degree that was awarded by the University of Greenwich in the UK but was NOT a full time programme but, instead, was studied via distance learning over 2 years (4 semesters). The entry requirement is the NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma in occupational health and safety. I have already had my NEBOSH Diploma assessed by VETASSESS on its own and came back negative as it was not comparable to an Australian Bachelors degree which I can understand. However, will VETASSESS assess the BSc (Hons) in conjunction with the NEBOSH Diploma as being comparable to an Australian BSc?:

Hi, we already have our visas and will be moving in JAnuary to South Australia. I was just wondering if a NVQ2 qualification is acceptable in Oz? I am a carer and was looking to do the Australian certificate 111, but would like to have a formal qualification before we arrive, but if a NVQ is worthless, than I should just wait till there?:embarrassed: Any info or ideas? Cheers

I've been told that under the new system coming up in July nurses who have completed diplomas won't be recognised just degree nurses so you either have to top up to degree or have over 5 years experience. Can anyone clarify or deny this?? O'connors

Hi, my employer is hopefully going to Nominate me for ENS shortly, and I've been reading through the 47es application form and noticed the checklist says: "Evidence of qualifications and experience (certified copies of all qualifications, work references and, if applicable, evidence that your qualifications are recognised in Australia)." Does anyone know what they mean by "if applicable" and what kind of evidence they are looking for? I have a MEng degree from a UK university. The ANZSCO code I'll be applying under is "ELECTRONICS ENGINEER 233411". I'll be going for "Option 3" - I've worked in Oz for over 2 years with the same employer. Cheers!

Hi all, Just wonderring if anyone knows how i can get my qualification recognised in Australia. I currently work in the UK as a Gas Mainlayer / Servicelayer and hold a City & Guilds NVQ Level II in Gas Network Operations. I've looked on the TRA web site and emailed them but cant find / not had any info back. Seen a job over in Perth that seems to be the same, (Gas Distribution Officer), and that asks for a "Certificate II in Gas Industry Operations". Is this the same, would I need to take the course and start from scratch or can I sit an exam to get my qualification swapped over?? We were hoping to move over to Brisbane / Sunshine coast next August - September time. Me and the wife have our 175 visa's in hand and I just want to try and get myself sorted out asap. Wife is an Occupational Therapist (thats how we got the visa so i might just send her to work ;p) Any info would be great. Thanks Weedo

I hope someone can help me with this as I don't really know where to begin finding out. I'll give you the background first. I am married with 2 daughters, (1 in year 10 who is 15yrs and another in year 7 who is 12yrs). We have decided to return to the UK but have given ourselves 3-5yrs to get things sorted. We want to go back in a good financial position so we are going to save like mad in the mean time. I don't really understand the qualification system over here apart from after year 12 you can go to Uni. My eldest is doing ok in school but wants to leave next year to do a course in Beauty and get a VET (?) qualification. I have told her that she will have to keep doing her English and Maths also though. Will her qualification be recognised in the UK? Will it be equivalent to 5 GCSE usual requirements for a job in the UK? My youngest won't be starting high school until next Feb. By that time, her old school friends back home will have already been in high school for about 18 months. If we stay for the full 5 years and she completes yr 12 would this allow her to go and do another course? She has always wanted to be a vetinary nurse. I suppose I am panicking really but I want things right for them for when we return. Another worry of mine is that if we leave it too late then they might not want to come with us.:unsure:Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Hi Everyone, We met with a visa agent yesterday and are now starting out on the process of getting our 176 visa. We have to put a portfolio together to qualify for RPL. My husband is a telecommunications linesman. I'm not sure what format to put it in , shoud i go with intro, then separate paragraphs, or bullet points ? Our agent said it has to be very very detailed. We have less than 6 months to get all our paperwork together, so the pressure is on:chatterbox: Does anyone have any advice about this portfolio, layout or anything, It would be very much appreciated. Milly x x

Hi all, pretty new to this forum. I am wondering if the british NNEB diplomia is recognised in Australia and if so, what it would qualify me to do. I am trying to find out what visa, if any, it might help me to get. Any information and advice about these things would be very much apprieciated. We are in the very early stages, and to be honest don't really know where to start. I know an agent would probably be a good first step, but before spending money on one, would really like to know that there is a good possibility of be granted a visa. Look forward to hearing from you Thanks Jessie

Carpenter - coming on partners 457 visa - how do I get my qualifications recognised?
mj&db posted a topic in Visa Chat
Hi All, Moving to Sydney end of February 2011. My wife is being sponsored on a 457 and I am the secondary visa holder which means i have full working rights. I am a qualified carpenter (NVQ Level 3) with 8 or so years experience. I want to consider both employed and contract work and understand for the latter I need a Contractor Licence. I have however just looked in to it in more detail and it states that no overseas qualifications are approved for licensing in NSW and that applicants from overseas who have already migrated to Australia should approach a Registered Training Organisation for an assessment of their skills and knowledge for the licence class relevant to their trade before they can get this licence. It does however state on the NSW Fair Trading website that "Any applicant issued with a qualification through VETASSESS is eligible to be granted a contractor licence or supervisor’s certificate for carpentry, bricklaying and/or joinery." But as I already have the 457 visa approved and will be in Australia can I still do this? I sat and passed the theory end of 2009 when we were planning on coming out on my trade. As VETASSESS keep sending me reminders to do the practical I assume I wont need to do the theory again? Any help would be much appreciated! God i keep finding more and more things we have to pay for!!!!!!!!! -

This is the course they link to - CPC30208 Certificate III in Carpentry. I have had a look at this course and it is a full blown carpentry course - which means really expensive and lengthy!! is this really necessary, especially when i have already done the UK equivalent recently? It does however state on the NSW Fair Trading website that "Any applicant issued with a qualification through VETASSESS is eligible to be granted a contractor licence or supervisor’s certificate for carpentry, bricklaying and/or joinery." But as I already have the 457 visa approved and will be in Australia at the point when i can do an assessment the VETASSESS website refers me to the Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) website! CONFUSED!! Any help would be much appreciated! God i keep finding more and more things we have to pay for!!!!!!!!!

Hi folks, I'm just about to negotiate my salary for my new Permanent position in Oz. I'm moving from London Zone 3, to Sydney around 30 mins from the CBD. At present, they're offering a direct salary transfer at the current exchange rate - around £68k basic including allowance for healthcare, etc. to translate to around AUD110k, hopefully with super on top. However, for most professions (I'm a Senior IT Security Consultant), it seems Australian salaries should be a fair bit higher than the basic exchange rate. There's plenty of discussion here about how the COL is higher, but I need something I can present formally. Can anyone recommend an agency that can a provide cost-of-living report that I can take to my employer, for a non-extortionate price (ie. I'll be paying for it, not my employer)? I think they'll have to keep it pretty up-to-date, given the relentless climb of the AUD! Many thanks! Damian
