I have looked a little into the Lateral transfer process to join the RAAF. I only obtained what information I have found online. I see that I could possibly do it, my job is working on C130s in America (Electrical/Environmental Systems). I can get my FAA A&P license through the US Air Force (I am Air National Guard) but I know its completely different than what Australia uses. I'm currently studying Criminal Justice at University, possibly become an Investigator at the prisons here or an insurance investigator, definitely not looking to be a Police Officer in America anyway, but would be open to see about it in Australia, if that opens a door for me. Looking for maybe someone who has become an Australian citizen through the lateral transfer military process, or maybe giving me ideas as to other options? If I can get some type of Visa with a Crim. Justice degree or with knowledge and possibly my A&P to work on aircraft? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi everyone. We are very interested in moving to Australia and would like to do so by transferring my husbands job from uk RAAF. Does anyone know if this is possible and how we find out more info. We have been on the RAAF site and chatted to someone in Australia but they had no idea if a transfer was possible. We do know that his trade is on the In Demand List. Any help at all appreciated, Many thanks Nic

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has transferred from the Royal Air Force to the Australian Air Force recently? My hubby is an electrician and has served 10 years in the RAF and he's submitted an expression of interest to the Oz force who replied saying they would respond in the near future. We have got lots of info from their website and electricians are a priority job but it doesn't say anything about the process of transferring, obviously. Can anyone help? Thanks xx

Hi all, now this may seem a very silly question but it has got me wondering. I am keen on becoming an air traffic controller and am in the process here in the uk of joining the RAF. However as my family live in Perth WA, i would love to one day go and live there with my girlfriend. As I was planning on joining the RAF, staying for a few years and hopefully transferring to the RAAF, can I directly apply to join the RAAF from the UK now and skip the first part, or is this a silly easy optuion? Any ideas? Cheers guys for all your help

Hi all. I'm new to the forum and to the whole concept of relocation to the other side of the planet! I'm planning on Trasferring from the Royal Navy to a similar specialisation in the Royal Australian Air Force and would like to know if this has been done before. If so, any advice would be really useful. If not, I'd better have a 'Plan B' Thanks

Currently serving in the Royal Navy as a Petty Officer Air Engineer Technician, at the start of the immigration process. I'm keen to transfer into either the RAAF or the RAN, I have sent my cv to the RAN although have had no joy in finding a contact address for the RAAF. Is there anyone who has already transferred and able to help give advice on the visa process, the support my wife and children would get and contacts for the RAAF? Cheers!!

Hi all, We are new to the site and thought this would be the ideal place to find some answers to our questions. We (Debra & Ian) have been considering a move to Oz for a number of years, but now seems to be the ideal time to persue it. My husband has served 20 years in the RAF and is coming up to his last 2 years. Ian is currently based at RNAS Culdrose in Cornwall. He is an Aircraft Technician (Mechanical). We have been endlessly searching the net for info about transferring from the RAF to the RAAF. We have visited the obvious sites (RAAF, Australia House/High Commission) none of these seem to specifically cater for a transfer between air forces. Please can anyone help? We need a footing to start the ball rolling. Where do we start? Any information or advice will be gratefully received. Thanks All Debs and Ian

I'm in RAF and strongly considering applying to transfer to RAAF. Unfortunately now I can only apply at a lower rank than I hold in the UK and the RAAF recruiter has told me that this is unlikely to change in the next few years. Although money wise there is not much difference between the 2 ranks in Oz, I would be looking at spending several years in the rank before I could get back to my current level and look at further promotion (where there is a massive pay rise). I'm also conscious that in the UK, my current wage is considered to be a very good one and I'm not certain how the potential income (approx $75k-$85k) equates in Oz, where I know that the cost of living has risen significantly in recent years. The money isn't the be all and end all as it's the potential improvement in quality of life for my kids that is motivating me to investigate this. Currently I get moved every couple of years, and soon I run the risk of derailing my kids education completely. However the defencejobs website obviously is designed to recruit not give a 'warts and all' picture of life in the Oz military. Grateful for any feedback from people who've done the transfer on the pros and cons of doing it.

Hi there, My husband was accepted by the ADF in an interview in October and told then that he would be going to Sale, Victoria in October 2007. Although he was told a month, haven't had anything in writing (or email) yet and wondered if there was anyone out there in the same situation. We were outwith the financial year - to June 2007 as hubby doesn't leave RAF till September therefore in theory they would have to wait for recruitment targets for next year (although did give him the ok in London). Just a bit jittery...... Also is there anyone out there with a knowledge of Sale or better still any other RAF who are heading south and would like to compare notes? Thanks so much, please keep in touch.
