  1. When we put in our visa application at the end of May we resigned ourselves to the fact that it coud take 18 months to 2 years to see any progress. So we got a bit of a scare last Tuesday when we got an e-mail asking for our medicals and police checks in the next 28 days. Lots of OMG and SH**, this is all getting a bit real and scary and a lot sooner that we had anticipated or planned for. So Police check applications have been sent off and we had our medicals last night - very impressed with the process and service at Spire Hospital in Manchester who only started doing these medicals in October. So now we are waiting again, but with the realisation that if there are no problems we could be taking a trip to Oz by the end of next year to validate our visas - so now for some frantic saving to pay for the flights and accommodation so we can at least make it feel like a holiday/chance to see places when we get there. 2. Gillard just said it as well as introducing a flood tax - assume this means folk needed for the rebuilding effort. Good news for some??? Added info from Tanner "Can I clarify further that your application has to be a 'DECISION READY' application to qualify for the 5-day processing time. Gillard has also let slipped a few occupations during her questioning time: Bricklayers, tilers and plumbers. So congratulations to all above! (OP - feel free to amend your original post as you did, 'cos people are far less likely to read my post than yours, and will miss out important information)"
  3. Hi It looks like I'm about to be offered a job, and the employer wants me to start ASAP. I've already started the visa process for the SOL (until my job got taken off) but I've got my skills assessment confirmation back. Question is - which is quicker - the 457 or the 175? And by how much? Also, I'm worried that if I give my notice in at work, what happens if I don't get the visa? I can't think of any reason why I wouldn't, but you never know. It's scary! Thanks for any help/advice

    886 quicker than 885?

I hear from most people that 885 and 886 there is no difference in processing time but doesnt 886 with relative/employer sponsorship have higher priority? Looks like 885 falls in category 7 while 886 falls in 6 and above. Cheers.
  5. Hi there We are looking to emigrate to Australia and my husband has enough points under 175 to make an independent application as a systems analyst. However my brother is a resident and soon to be citizen of Australia so I know he could sponsor us under a 176 even though we have enough points. Does anyone know if one is particularly quicker or slower than the other? We dont need the visa within a few months but at the same time dont want to wait 3 years for example so if anyone knows if there is a vast difference between the two based on priority it would really help to have this info. Many thanks
  6. Hi Which visa is processed quicker onshore or offshore application? :err: Thanks Emma
  7. Hey guys I am a pre 17 Dec 2008 applicant and have obtained an updated skills assessment that falls into CSL categories after one year work. Confirmed with DIAC on 8th this month that my application has qualified for CSL processing and been forwarded to the relevant processing area(which DIAC clarifies the date-of-lodgement-order does not apply to my case), no further contacts were made since then. To add chances I had also applied for SA sponsorship which was granted and filed to DIAC. I phone Adelaide weekly to check progress and in the latest call this morning they said -well your application has been forwarded but still unallocated. you know we are busy a.t.m. - it takes four to six weeks, but since allocation it would be processed really quickly. They have also acknowledged receipt of form 1100. It is known that CSL is going to be pulled down mid this year. I have not seen many 886CSL applicants and hence not so sure of progress of such kind of application. It would be grateful that someone could nicely advise that whether it's necessary to lodge a Post Lodgement Enquiry with DIAC requesting transforming my existing 885 application to 886, and could I expect my application being allocated and processed any faster by doing this transformation? Many Thanks. jtucker
  8. Hi all, I have applied for a general skilled migration visa as a Welder in June last year and just wondered if getting state sponsorship will speed the process up? I know that state sponsorship visa's gets priority but will this speed it up a lot? If so how do I go about doing it? Any info would be of a great help

  10. Hi all, This may be a long winded question but here goes!! I am currently a supply teacher getting dribs and drabs of work, so I'm thinking of getting a part time teaching job. Then I will have to work for a year to start the visa process. We have close family who have just moved to Brisbane and we miss them so much as they were not just family, we were best friends also. If I have to work a year and then apply, we are going to be sooooooooo distraught. So, we were wondering about other ways to get there quicker. My hubby is a forman of a huge import/export shipping company which obviously is not a skilled job I suppose. We have researched a bit and find that there is a similar company in the Port of Brisbane. Is it worth getting in touch with them and finding out if they are willing to sponsor? Would it be better to go see them face to face on a reccie? Is this the kind of job that could sponsor someone or not? My other questions regarding teaching are these, would a part time teaching position give me my 20 hours for recent work experience? Does anyone know of a part timer who successfully got a visa? I ask this because all agents seem to be a bit vague when I ask for a definite answer as to how many hours a supply day is classed as. I have been told to look on my wageslips, but they just say 1.0 for a full days supply and 0.5 for a half day. Any help at all would be much appreciated. Thanks Claire
