  1. Hi Everybody, I am intending to apply for visa 189 as Construction Project Manager but I am little concerned because I was not actually practicing construction in a strict sense since a while. So I am working as Contracts Manager (Admin) in construction projects since 10 years, however, I have a Civil Engineering degree and I had around +3 years experience at my early years as Construction engineer. I also have an LLM in Construction Law and Arbitration. So my questions are: - Given the above can I apply for a Construction Project Manager? - Is there a minimum activities of Construction Project Manager that need to be included in my Company letter of experience under the Contracts Manager? if so what would be the acceptable minimum match between both positions e.g. 60% or what? - What would be the main criteria of assessment that could make it or break it when it comes to a case like mine? Sorry for the elaboration and looking forward for your advice. Regards, SH
  2. Can anyone help? We're about to get my husbands skills assessed as a Construction Project Manager. He can evidence this role since April 2007 to present. He also has a degree in Construction Management awarded June 2010 and a HNC in Construction awarded July 2007. As we were completing the form online, this paragraph came up - "This occupation requires a qualification which is assessed as comparable to the educational level of an Australian Bachelor degree or higher degree, in a highly relevant field of study to the nominated occupation. In addition to this, applicants must have at least one year of post-qualification employment at an appropriate skill level completed in the last five years in a field closely related to the nominated occupation. If employment is not post-qualification, then five additional years of closely related employment are required. If the degree is not in a highly relevant field of study, three years of employment at an appropriate skill level completed in the last five years in a field closely related to the nominated occupation is required. This is reduced to two years if there is an additional qualification at least at AQF Diploma level in a highly relevant field. A positive assessment of both qualifications and employment is required for a positive Skills Assessment Outcome. If the qualification(s) is not at the required educational level, employment will be assessed below the required skill level." As he only qualified with his degree in June last year, he obviously doesn't have the 'one year post qualification employment'. Although he's been in the role for 4 years and holds a HNC. Anyone know if this looks like a problem? Thanks
  3. I have done my Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial Production. My experience is as follows 1) Pipeline Valve Industry - 2.5 Years as Quality Assurance Engineer. 2) Software(IT) Industry - 9.5 Years . Currently doing the role of IT project Manager. I am bit confused whether I can quote my IT projects in CDR and request for assesment as a Engineering Manager (ANZSCO 133211) from Engineers Australia. Note: IT project Manager ( ANZSCO 112411) is no longer in SOL else ACS skills assessment under RPL was the best option. Thanks In advance for all your inputs.
  4. Hi to those out there Unsure if anyone can give me a steer on how to move forward from experiences out there: My husband and I are desperate to move to Australia. We met and traveled in 2004 and have had returned visits. I have a step-aunt based in Adelaide willing to assist however she can and we have savings which I am unsure aside re costs to move and visa if other alternatives are available we were once told and I quote "no you dont make the criteria however, if you have 20k you can buy a visa, do you have a spare 20k?" this was at an emigration fair and were moved on and out of the queue! to say we were annoyed and upset is obvious. I am a PMO manager. I have looked into company transfer but this is not an option. I have only one formal qualification which I took after following advise which in hindsight I do not thing will pass with VETASSESS. I have a BTEC Diploma in Project Management which I took Part Time over 2 years - This I do not think now will equate to a AQF diploma from the information I have read. From the SOL list I understand that the most relevant code would be 511112, Program or Project Administrator however VETASSESS will not accept only my experience. I am unsure if another code would be best I have been looking but I cannot see. I am 30, female, great heath, English. I have been working in the project arena since approx 2002 and have 8.5 years in total experience (not inc WHV GAP years etc). My husband went back to university (one of us to work the other to study) to gain a degree which he did last June within BSC Web Development, he has very little work experience however and current seeking employment in this field. He is 36 and as myself great health and native English speaker. We are aware we could emigrate to NZ however I have really held off on this option as Australia is where my heart is and NZ would only be taken into account if I truly know that Australia is a no-go. As above my step-aunt is MORE than willing to assist. I think a 176 family sponsored would be best but unsure with the VETASSESS status if I can actually go any further forward. Apologies again if I haven't followed protocol - your steer / advice or where I should put this data for assistance would be very appreciated. We started this 7 years ago and have had bad advice throughout :mad:we are wanting to settle sooner rather than later and Oz is where we want to be

    511111 or 511112?

Hi all You may remember I was on a bit back when I split from my ex and was worried about kicking them off my 572(student) visa. At that time my employer expressed a desire to sponsor me (856!), and we've left it until now to start applying (as my Dip IT finishes shortly). I have over 10years experience (at least 5 demonstrable) in Project/Program administration. My current role is Contracts and Account Administrator (but I also run the training program, and coordinate incentives programs). I dont know which i should apply for 511111 or 511112? Does it matter when its clear to see I broadly meet the criteria for both? My employer obviously has to nominate me too, so its important we select the right one - theyre submitting their application/nomination this week. Im probably being paranoid and i also have the luxury of already having a visa, but the difference in fees for me are phenomenal if I get PR. It's still my intention to complete my degree, and I have the support of my employer to do so, so even if I was turned down, I could appy with a degree in a year or so. Anyone else got stories to tell about 511111/511112, or can allay my fears/give me pointers to success?
  10. Hi there, I have just joined and I am trying to figure out what is the attitude towards migrants applying for jobs on a Working Holiday Visa. I am 30 years old and work as a Project Coordinator and have experience of working in IT and the Utilities industry. I hold a British passport. I have just come back from travelling around the world and I might have qualified for a State Sponsored visa had I been working in the last year. I am seriously considering applying for a WHV and going to either Sydney or Melbourne to look for work in the same type of role. However, I do not want to spend a fortune getting out to Australia to find out that most companies will not hire people on a WHV. I'm aware of the 6 month restriction so I have been looking at contract and temporary work, however, it is not clear on a lot of job sites if they would accept applications from someone on a WHV for 6 month contract or temporary roles. Has anyone else here gone out to Australia and looked for professional roles on a WHV? Do companies in Aus have a prejudiced view towards WHV seeing it as a backpacker visa for travellers who just want fruit-picking or bar work or is it taken seriously and would I stand a chance of getting job? If anyone can advise me on this I would be very grateful as I feel like it is a big financial risk. I am very keen to live and work in Australia having done some travelling there last year. My goal is to gain employer nominated sponsorship so I would be able to continue working in Aus, however, if it is very difficult to secure a professional job then it is not worth the risk of spending all that money to fly out to Aus for nothing. Any thoughts / advice / personal experience would be hugely appreciated. Cheers, J

  13. Major iron ore project in the Pilbara one step closer Updated August 09, 2011 13:49:25 The Environmental Protection Authority has recommended the State Government approve Aquila Resources' West Pilbara iron ore project. The project involves the development of eight iron ore deposits south of Pannawonica, and a heavy-haulage railway from the mining area to the proposed new port at Anketell Point, north-east of Karratha. The EPA says a number of conditions should be imposed on the project, including measures to protect rare flora and fauna. The EPA report is subject to a two week appeal period. Aquila says work is continuing with the State Government on the design of the proposed multi-user Anketell Port. First posted August 09, 2011 13:36:03
  14. Hello Everyone, I know you all get numerous questions along the same lines so I promise I have done a bit of research and abused the search button in the forums. I wasn’t to sure whether this should have been in migration issues / Jobs and careers as I think it straddles both so Mods, please feel free to move this if you see fit. Quickly run over the background, Graduated uni in 09 and was lucky enough to get on a graduate scheme within a financial services company starting the September of that year. Working under the title of Project Coordinator in IT I have had a pretty broad expeirnce in my time with the company, did some work directly for CEO (right place, right time) and followed up with a project directly for CRO. We have just gone through a restructure and have been involved with the heads of our department in progressing that and have spent the last year or so being the project manager on a number of projects of differing topics (IT infrastructure, IT Services) So to present day, I would like move to OZ, Sydney if possible, and continue working as a PM or Project Coordinator to start with. I am looking at 2012 - not expecting this to happen in an instant! I have been looking at the options and reading the numerous threads on here and have some questions. Am I right in thinking my options would be as follows; Get sponsorship – difficult to do I gather. I would be willing to fly over and meet / network if it would help in the long run. Or move over on a working holiday visa and see what I can find job wise? But I understand I can only work for the same company for 6 months? Would the working holiday visa aid itself to the IT contracting route due to the 6 month limit? I have been looking at seek.au, recruitment agencies in the UK which have Australian arms eg Michael Page, Hays etc. All of which have a few roles but before I start to take the next step and apply I would like to put myself in the strongest position possible in terms of knowledge. Have I missed an obvious route regarding visa’s? Any help or guidance you can all offer will be much appreciated – I can assure you. Cheers….and sorry for the long read
