    visa proccess time..

Hello, I am a floor finisher living in Manchester. I am 25. Last week, my girlfriend and I went to an Expo in Leeds about migrating to Oz. It was very useful, learnt a few things, but most of all, we were told that if we wanted to get into Oz before the end of Jan '10 we needed to pull our fingers out! So I have been busy collecting references etc, and info which will prove I am competent at my job. I have downloaded my TRA forms for my trade and will hopefully have it all the send off to them end of the week. I then have to be assessed by an inspector on my skills, once passed I can be put forward for the visa. We were told last week at the Leeds Expo that because there is a shortage of my trade in WA, my visa will be get priority. Is there any truth in this?? We had planned to travel east Asia for a few months before landing in Perth. But I am unsure about the visa processing time, ie from me sending off my TRA forms to being able to move into Perth. Can anybody give me any indication? Are we being unrealistic with the Jan/Feb '10 time plan? Also my girlfriend, although she has fantastic qualifications and experience, isn't eligible for a government migration visa. so we are trying to get her on a spouse visa. if her visa doesn't come through the same time as mine, could she still come over on a years working visa? or 3 month travel visa? and then when the spouse visa comes through, change over? or would we have to wait until we both have our visa's before we set off together? Thanks in advance for any help or advice Andy
