  1. Hi, would love to pick anybodies brains regarding the best place to live in australia.Myself,my partner and three children are off to queensland and sydney for a reccie in february.I have psoriatic arthritis and know i have to be in a warm climate!! Every winter gets worse here in freezing england! However would be interested to hear how people with joint problems who have moved get on? We are lucky that we can go virtually anywhere but it does make it hard to decide. I know i am better in the warmth but am unsure how humidity will affect me? Any experiences greatly appreciated ! Judy:wink:

    Rejected Visa...

Hey, I applied for a 190 visa, after getting nominated by Victoria. I have just recieved my rejection due to me getting 5 points rather than 15... their reasons were that I do not have a degree and therefore 5 years of my work experience is invalid...? I am applying for a 263111 Computer Network and Systems Engineer, and cannot understand the rejection. Does anyone else have experience of this? Thanks Colin
  3. We keep being told things (through our agent) and then they do a U-turn and say they're not doing them anymore. Which is costing us time and money. And now we may not be getting a Visa due to these constant changes in decision. Is there anything we can do? All to do with our application: (as you'd imagine) We were given as long as we needed. Great. Then we were then told 2 months and no chance of extention. What? Then we were told we had another 2 weeks and this would be extended as long as we could prove we were working towards getting it sorted. Okay. Now we're told we have 2 more weeks and no further extentions possible. Back to What? The thing is we are (and have been for a long time) waiting for various other governmental agencies to recognise qualifications. We weren't told we needed them when we applied. We were then told (3 months after our application was received) that we did need them. We told them it was an 8 week process and we didn't want to pay money for the prcoess if we weren't going to get extentions to cover the length of time. We were told we would get extentions. Now 2 weeks after sending all the docs off to the agency we've been told we have 2 weeks? And this is from our case workers manager - as our case worker was off on holiday, again, for the second time, without any notice or notification (or cover?) They believe we should have handed in these qualifcation recognition as part of our visa application. But they were never required for the role, or requested until 3 months after we applied? Oh and one more diamond: we were also told the only reason the qualifications needed to be transfered over, was as there 'may' be a change of law in 2014 (the qualifications held now, work now - my partner working in the role she's being sponsored for) Anyone made complaints and have they made any difference? We are in Oz, on a WHV - bridging visa. Applied for a 457 about 7-8 months ago. Any advice? Anyone? Anything?

    Help applying for Work Visa

  6. Hi, I received a sponsorship letter from the South Aus (SA) gov in Sept 2008. I realised that their rules changed on 1 Jan 2009, but they confirmed that I still fall under their old rules (6 months to lodge an appl with DIAC as opposed to 60 days). I therfore completed my DIAC application last night online, and where given a TRN as soon as I made the credit card payment. I was taken to a screen with a document checklist, a function to attach scanned documents, and a function to create a password. I had a look at the document checklist (and realised that I had MOST of the required documents), so the next step would have been to scan the documents this week and attach them) I wrote down my TRN (as I am supposed to fax it through to the SA gov) I created a password (the function required it be entered twice) MY PROBLEM: When I tried to access the attaching of scanned documents to applications function afterwards, it kept on refusing my password. This worries me as I would like to get the documents attached to my application as soon as possible. I am not sure why my password being refused, but the DIAC site is quite vague on what my alternatives are. It states that "Applications lodged on or after 1 September 2007...If you lodged a paper application or you are unable to attach documents to the application online through the eVisa system they can be emailed to the department...adelaide.gsm.documents@immi.gov.au...When your application has been assessed you will be advised of a further email address to use in providing documents. Please only send documents to that address" ???? - I am now 100% confused, do I email the documents (such as passport bio page, sponsorship letter, etc) to the email address stated, or do I wait for them to ask for ANY documents??? The SA gov letter states that I must "FAX a copy of the full Notification document with the TRN number from DIAC together with a copy of this letter to Immigration SA on +61 8 8204 9244" - my online application did not supply a full Notification document, but did supply a TRN. It did however supply a full copy of my application which states the TRN. What exactly am I supposed to fax and is there any way I can make sure they received it and are dealing with it? Any advise greatly appreaciated. Et

    Problems with e457 system?

Hi, everyone. I paid for and lodged my e457 application last night. Unfortunately my browser crashed before I could print out the application forms and payment receipt... I've tried to access the system today to attach documents and to check progress (obviously there will be none so far but I wanted to check that it had been lodged etc.) and I can't log in. I have put in my TRN and put in the password and other details but I cannot access my application for love nor money. Has anyone had similar problems or any advice as to how I can get around this? I'm obviously quite concerned given that I have paid the visa fee and would like to attach documents swiftly to try to speed up the process! Thanks in advance for any thoughts or comments. db3006
  8. hi just wondering if any social workers from UK have had any problems transferring their sillis and qualifications to work in oz, as I have heard this can be problematic. any feedback would be great thanks bec
  9. Hello all, I've been living just outside of Brisbane for 3 years now having moved here on my partner's 457 sponsorship visa as she's a nurse. In this time having registered with many hopeless agencies, applying directly for jobs and sending my CV round local businesses I am still finding work nigh on impossible to find. As a bit of background I'd been in office admin for 20+ years with a big 3 accountancy firm as well as the NHS and the feedback from agencies on my CV has been great. This said I still have to chase agencies to be told the same old story of "nothing in, we'll contact you when we have something" and staff change over and the new person coming in goes well you could amend your CV (dones this 6 times already to no avail). All in all it's very frustrating and one agency recently pointed to the fact that a 457 visa confuses employers as they dont know if it carries work restrictions (which it doesnt) and cant be bothered to investigate so go for the easier option of an Australian permanent resident. So all in all this has left me annoyed and demotivated as by design or not it seems the odds are well and truly stacked against me. I registered with an agency called Geoffrey Nathan here who specialise in migrant workers but they pass your details onto agencies here which then starts you off in the same loop. There are plenty of admin and data entry roles advertised and even the low level ones I've been passed over for. Has anyone else had similar problems and found a way to overcome them and get work? Kind regards....
  10. Has anyone had any issues when shipping belongings with Doreen Bonner or Grace? I am in a situation where I shipped my items from the UK with DB/Grace on 24th February 2011 on the basis of a shared container. It took 20 weeks (not the quoted 8-12 weeks) for me to receive my shipping in Sydney. However, one of my boxes had been lost by the shipping company (full of winter clothes) as acknowledged by both DB&Grace. I paid £456 for insurance through DB's recommended insurer (plus £3026 for shipping), however, the insurance company have stated my claim for replacement is not valid as I did not adequately itemise the clothing items on the insurance application form. I was advised when filling out the insurance form it was the final figure which mattered not the itemised sections. I find myself in the situation where I paid £456 to insure my belongings (in addition to the £3026 shipping costs), completed the insurance application in line with advice, the shipping companies Doree Bonner and Grace accept they have lost a box of my belongings yet I receive no compensation, insurance payment and can not afford to replace my items. Has anyone had similar experiences and could suggest where I go from here. I'm really upset to be honest. Many thanks
  11. Hi I am a qualified teacher . I passed my PGCE a number of years ago through the Open University. The transcript is not very detailed and after a number of requests I have been told that they are unable to provide a more detailed transcript than the one I have. They have been very helpful with all my requests but I am concerned the transcript is not enough. I know that AITSL may want more detail. Has anyone else OU trained had any issues having their PGCE recognised by AITSL? Or has it not been a problem? My visa geezer will be submitting, but as i am 45 in less than 6 months ,we are hoping there will be no problems to hold up lodging the visa.

  14. I'm not sure if this is in the right forum so feel free to move if not. Am due to head out to Adelaide at the end of this year on a 309 spouse via with my OH who is originally from down under. Over the past few years in the UK we have built up quite a shared collection of DVDs (100 or so) and CDs. My plan is to buy a massive capacity external hard drive and spend a good few hours (or even days) copying all of our music and films over. I would then take this over in hand luggage instead of either having to part with all of our media, or pay to have it shipped over. The originals would not be sold - they'll go into storage with my parents. My understanding is, although I may well be wrong, that it is OK under UK law to make backups of media I own for personal use (although circumventing the DVD copy protection is a bit of a grey area). Can anyone advise if this is likely to cause any problems with Customs? I understand how this might look like I am taking a load of films into the country to sell - but that is not the case. As ripping these DVDs is likely to take many many hours I really don't want to risk having the drive confiscated, or get into any trouble :policeman: Any advice gratefully received :err: .

    Problems with TRA !

Hi I have posted a few times regarding this subject and it has just backfired on me. I applied for my artc (australia recognised trade certificate) from TRA back in June. I have just received an outcome and have been granted an ARTC as electrical fitter. Now then I applied as dual trade elec fitter and mechanic and supplied all the evidence I thought will be ok for both titles, in particular 16th & 17th edition IEE regs in electrical installations certificates and references from all my past employers stating that along with my maintenance speciality I was involved with installation work also. I am ready to email TRA asking why I have not been granted the titles I applied for, just wondering has anybody else experienced anything like this ??? Cant find anything official anywhere on internet ? help me please !!!!!!! cheers

    AHPRA Problems - Help!!!

Hi, Is anyone having problems applying to AHPRA? I am already in Australia and have filled out an overseas applicant form. I had Napier University send my nursing transcripts and now AHPRA have came back to me saying that I need to provide evidence that I have studied pharmacology and microbiology. I am a nurse btw. I have contacted Napier University again asking if they can help me and waiting on a reply. Has anyone else had this problem? Or anyone else completed an overseas applicant form who also studied at Napier???? It's driving me mad, I've had a job offer since 1st august and cant start until my reg comes through! thanks, Louise
  17. http://www.smh.com.au/national/protesters-chase-immigration-minister-20110917-1keu4.html see how much attention do media give to this topic, while roughy 100.000 qualified workers are processed offshore with the risk of their visa being cancelled... please no offensive posts
  18. Hi, i am sure we are not the only ones in this position but our house is taking longer than we thought to sell here in the u.k. As we have to validate by next summer we do hopefully have time but was wondering if anyone has tried these quick sale agencies? I have been on their websites and they guarantee a sale in a month but not sure how i feel about them? Don't want to go too much under what the house is worth but will struggle to afford to validate ! Would love to know if anyone has tried alternative ways of selling!

    Passport problems

Can anyone suggest another way to get past the red tape associated with getting my British Passport please. It states I need the co signatory to be of a professional nature ie: Doctor, lawyer, police officer etc, who has personally known me for 2 years +. I contacted British High Commition about this & they said I could get a Police Officer to sign a stat Dec about the knowing me under 2 years part, but when I took it to the police station the woman police officer refused to sign the stat dec, & then incorrectly filled out the forms & details on the back of the photograph, so again the Passport was refused, costing me yet again more time & money, & having photos taken yet again as they are only valid 1 month. The Doctor's I see when I need one, all seem to move on, under the 2 years. I don't know anyone here 2 years that personally, who can vouch for me, even though I have been in Oz 42 years & have 6 children & 13 Grandchildren here. My 73 y/o Mother wants to return to England & see her family again but the stress about getting our passports is getting to us. Anyone else have any ideas please?

    Aaaaaaaargh... e457 visa problems

Lodged e457 visa application this morning but had some problems with the internet. The visa application is lodged and paid for but now I cant upload any documents. Is it me doing something wrong or is this normal?
  22. Has anybody else experienced an issue whereby one person's medical results on an e visa app cannot be uploaded by the medical centre in the UK? My 2 children had their meds done at the same time at the same clinic at the end of July in the UK. My son's was uploaded and finalised by Aug 8. The clinic saud my daughters couldn't be uploaded and would have to be posted. They still haven't been received by DIAC. I've seen a comment before that medicals can only be uploaded if they are registered for e medical, have checked this with DIAC this morning and there is nothing different about about my daughters. I have the Royal Mail tracking number for daughter's meds but this told me they arrived in Australia a week ago but do not indicate if they have been delivered or not. Has anybody else had the same problem and if anybody else has had to have medicals posted how long was it before they arrived. It's the last thing we are waiting on in order to be issued a pre-grant letter. Thanks Jayne
  23. So we are now almost resigned to letting the house out due to the current property market difficulties. I decided to start asking around buy to let lenders, only to face a problem immediately - I spoke to Skipton who will only lend to UK residents. Yes, we are residents currently, but apparently we aren't allowed to live abroad at all! This is very worrying and currently I'm too upset to ask around any more lenders. Has anyone managed to arrange a BTL mortgage, with the lender knowing you'll be abroad? Someone must have done it, you can't all be sneaking around not telling mortgage companies what you're up to! Maybe we should just stay here  ETA should have said we're going on a 457. IF we go (
  24. Hi, I am completely new to this and have come here to see if anyone else is having the same problems we are. We moved to Melbourne nearly a year ago with our two children 8 and 6. We've noticed now that our 8 year old daughter is really starting to struggle at school and has all the classic symptoms for dyslexia, however much to our dismay we have found that it is not 'recognised' here or as the school put it to me, there are those who thinks it exists and those who dont. I got the distinct impression she was in the latter camp!!! Anyway, we've had her privately assessed and our worries confirmed, but we dont want to pay $2,500 for 7 days worth of private assistance only to have it undone by the school (who are now going to get her assessed by a psychologist). As anyone else out there come across the same thing as we really don't know what to do for the best. Any help, advice, recommendations, forums etc would be most welcome. Thanks
  25. Hi, has anyone had any problems with the documentation reaching ANMAC, all the documentation I have sent has been received, as has the transcript and IELTS results, but the NMC verification was sent in June and it didn't arrive, so they resent it on 25th July, and ANMAC still haven't received it, it is driving me mad, as without it, they can't proceed. Tracey:sad:
