  1. Hi Guys, I'm just new to this forum so hoping I'm posting this in the right place. My hubby and I are seriously considering emmigrating to Australia; we have an 8 month old daughter and are hoping for a better lifestyle than the UK can offer. My husband is a hospital doctor in Transplant Surgery and hoping to get a fellowship out there. I'm a probation officer and have searched what feels like far and wide for info on UK probation officers working in Australia but have had little success. I don't think my husband will have too much trouble getting a job out there as our understanding is that hospital doctors are a wanted occupation but what about Probation Officers? Does anyone know how sought after they are? What areas are wanting them? And any ideas on what the salary out there is like? If anyone has any info at all I'd be really grateful. :spinny: Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!! Dnav
  2. Hi All I'd like to ask if anyone has any info on how to get into the NSW Corrections service as a Probation Officer, Programme Facilitator or similar in the Sydney city area or at least an hour maximum from Chatswood area. I have years of experience as a programme facilitator when working for London Probation and also have 2 years experience as a Probation Officer, working for the New Zealand Probation service. I'd definitely like to get back into working in this field, so any links, ideas etc would be great. I'm already signed up to the usual online agencies such as Seek and NSW government sites, but ideally want something for when I arrive in a few weeks time. I'd be happy to work via an agency on contract if that helps me to get back into this profession. Regards

    Probation period?

Hi, My hubby received an offer from a company in Perth, initial e-mail stated a permanent position, salary etc. They also indicated they wanted him over there ASAP. That was last week Thursday. Today he recieved an e-mail stating they would pay 50% of his visa and flight for him to complete his assessment, training and 3 month probation period. This was never mentioned in any correspondence to start with and has left us feeling confused and not sure what to do. They state that if, after the 3 months, he has successfully completed his probation and is still interested in staying, they would "move to get his family here". So, it would mean him resigning from his job in the UK, taking a chance for 3 months, leaving the family behind with no assurance of anything at the end. Is this normal for Australian companies? Why would they initially offer to sponsor all of our visas with confirmation of a permanent job and then change the offer a week later??? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks
  5. Hi, I've started a new role on a full time basis (for at least 3 years) and had my skills assessed. In this new role I'm on probation for 3 months and I'd like to know if the company can nominate me for 856 ENS visa now? or do I need to wait the 3 months period? Thanks
