  2. Hello, I have a PR visa and have got all my engineering registrations (Electrical). But don’t seem to be able to get an interview whilst applying for positions from the UK (Queensland). I have 22 verified years’ experience from electrical controls apprentice to electrical engineer in UK. But can’t seem to get an interview, I have tried mining, processing, oil and gas, government utilities, where my skills are transferable, but not much luck. I have heard that there isn’t really an engineering shortage in OZ, which is contrary to the official declarations from the local and national governments, engineers Australia, as well as migration shortage lists, but from my experience they don’t seem to be that short. Or is it just not possible to secure an engineering position from the UK? Has anyone else found this to be the case?

  5. Hi All, I am a UK Independant Financial Adviser and have been trying to get to Oz for 3 years now, with my wife and daughter. After taking additional UK exams, Australian financial diploma and having the family sponsored route taken away, we are left with 1 last chance - 'finding a job sponsor'. I have sent approximately 30 applications and sent details to recruitment agencies with all replies stating that I need a work Visa. So this is where I need the advice - 'should I go over there for a last ditch effort and knock on some doors, in an attempt to show prospective employers just how keen I am?' OR 'stop fooling myself and drown my sorrows with the prospect of another UK summer?' Many thanks for any advice. Martin, Debs and Grace
  6. Equity Partner Positions (Management Consulting) I made the move out to Australia (via career stop in Hong Kong) at the end of 2009 and am very settled in Brisbane and working successfully as an equity Partner in an Australian boutique Management Consultancy/Business Advisory firm. The company has capacity for new Equity Partners in Brisbane (where I'm based), Sydney & Melbourne. This may be of interest to folks with the right experience and background (as Oz is short in this area) so if you've got 15-20+ years industry experience at Senior Management/Executive Management/Director level running a business, business unit or with significant P&L responsibility, have a background and wealth of experience you think would be valuable to business owners in Australia then drop me a line at richard.moss@eborders.net or PM me. The roles involve management consulting/business advisory into privately held businesses with annual turnovers in the range of $2-200 million a year and working directly with the owners and shareholders - so you need to be confident, know your stuff, have the ability to do the work yourself (no juniors to delegate to here) and have an honest/ethical approach to our clients business it could be worth having a chat. To be clear - this is not a development role for someone, you've either got the experience or you haven't and if you have, its really interesting and rewarding work! Finally, there's no "hiring deadline" and no pressure applied so for anyone looking to emigrate and not sure exactly when, where, or if the visa will get approved (been there!!) this discussion will work around that. It’s about having the right people when the time is right. Interested? Drop me a line and we can chat, if you're still interested I'll give you all the details and connect you with the managing partner for another chat cheers, Richard. P.S. we have smaller offices in Adelaide and Perth but I'm not wholly convinced that would be a good move for this type of position where it’s better to be close to some critical mass of other people but if anyone is dead set on those tow city's happy to chat as well

  11. Hi. My paperwork for an 856 visa was lodged last week. I have previously been on two separate 457 visa with the same employer. I have been offered a similar position to the one put on my nomination form within a different division of the same large corporation I work for, but it is sensitive to let my own division know at this point. Has anyone ever been in a similar position, changing roles within the same company after the paperwork was lodged but before it was granted? Would I be able to be transferred internally before the 856 visa is granted, or would I need to either wait until after or re-lodge the paperwork? Any help is appreciated.

  18. Further to my earlier post ( see below) these positions can be sponsored for the correct, experienced candidates through the companies themselves or Freespirit who's very impressive offices are literally above where the office I work in Melbourne. I have a mate who recruits recruitment consultants for all industries across Australia He currently owns the largest company in Australia that specialize in this type of work and has 100+ spaces to fill. So if you have 3+ years experience in sales and or recruitment, are in Australia or due here shortly then please PM me for details of where to send you CV to and I will pass onto him. He stated that British Expats recruitment consultants find it a doodle working here compared to the UK and they are making a bucket load of cash. As the market continues be very hot there is plenty of opportunity to make hay while the sun shines There is no benefit in this for me other then helping a mate secure some people so please PM and I will give you email address to send resume too.

  25. Hi We are just going through the start of visa submitting under SIR. We are open to where we go as long as there is work. We have heard that Brisbane is not the best place to go if you are in accountancy. Is this correct. We would prefer to go to the Queensland area but only with good possibilities of work. Regards Steve and Heather
