  1. Hi After searching still can't find an answer to this, so I hope someone can help! We leave for Oz in 10 days and I will take my UK Virgin Mobile. My mum is panicking saying she won't know how to contact me! My UK mobile phone number starts 07966 as many do, what should she call in order to contact me when I get to Oz?? Thanks Sonia

    Phoning DIAC

Well, after seeing loads of people who have submitted their SS 176 visa after us I've been trying to ring DIAC tonight to see if there is a problem with our application. All I get is a recorded message saying their Adelaide office is now closed and to ring back on the next working day. I thought the working day should have started by now  Has anyone else had any problems getting in touch? Thanks Bex
  3. Hi all my hubby is off to Barrow Island to work he's in Perth for 10 days first on a course. Just wondered if anyone knows what the phone situation is like on the island? We heard that you have to get a special type of mobile phone ? Is there landlines to use and will a UK mobile work for texting ? Thank you, hope this is in the correct place......still working my way round using the site

    Phoning DIAC

Just thinking out loud, will my agent find out if I phone DIAC? I know that you are supposed to go through your agent but he always makes me feel like I am bothering him, I am paying him a large sum of money to feel like this as well.:embarrassed: I just want to confirm that I am in Cat 4 and try and understand when my visa might be processed. I’m not impatient or anything honestly but this new ray of hope has got me all wound up. Kind of wish I never found anything out then life would still be plodding along as it was. LOL ARRRGGGHHHHH :wacko:I need therapy:wacko:

Phoning the DIAC - Our advice

Hey everyone. If you are applying for an e-457 visa but not otherwise please read on... We thought we should share our experience of dealing with the DIAC and the dilemma of whether or not to phone them while waiting for your visa. I'm not going to go into too much detail or name any names but we had a few hurdles and recon this post might help some of you waiting out with making a decision...so here goes. Our medicals were finalised over 2 weeks ago and after much checking online and speaking to some PIOers and other contacts we decided to go ahead and call the DIAC even though we had not heard anything (Not even a email letting us know we had a CO). When I finally namaged to get the right department (All the staff were very friendly and helpfull and not at all annoyed we had phoned them) we were informed that "Yes, you have a case officer. Her name is ......... Would you like to speak with her?". Obviously we did and were surprised to hear that some of the paperwork they had been supplied with over 2 months ago was apparently not ledgible (There were some other issues too but don't want to get into too much detail on an open forum)! We had not had a single message by email or anything else to tell us this and the CO hadn't bothered to let us know she even had our case. So anyways...long story a little shorter; We're not saying call them as soon as you lodge you application, but if you havent heard from them to let you know you at least HAVE a CO after a week...we recon to ring them is best or you might be waiting for no good reason. One of the reasons I am posting this is that when I asked both here and on BExPats I was told not to call them and that they wouldn't be interested in our dilemmas. That's is totally not the case and i we had not ignored that advice we'd probably still be sitting here waiting for an email from our CO rather than packing our bags. Best of luck to you all....I've got to go and get some flights booked. He he. Please note that this information does not apply to any visa apart from the e-457.
