Hi guys, looking for some advice. My partner (soon to be wife, 25 years old), son (currently 4 weeks old) and myself (27 years old) are looking to emigrate to Cairns in the next 2-3 years. My partner is an adult staff nurse with 3 years experience and 2 years experience in the emergency department. I am a newly qualified Paramedic with 5 years ambulance experience. I'm aware that nursing is currently on the skills list, but does anybody have some advice with the best way to go about enquiring for a visa/emigrating. I have family in Cairns, who are my aunty and cousins so not immediate. Although my aunty is director of nursing at Cairns hospital, would she be in a position to sponsor us to move over? Any information/guidance would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks in advance. Chris

I have been considering immigrating to Oz for a looong time now and orginally wanted to apply for a VISA under 'Architectural Associate'. After being in the Architectural sector for nearly 10 years and just about surviving the ecomomic nightmare I have made a rather drasic descision to re-train as a Paramedic. Ideally I would like to do this in Oz but have absolutely no idea how to go about this and what sort of Visa I would need to apply for. I would love to hear from anyone in a similar situation or who has any brilliant advice for me, bye for now Cheryl

Hi all, I'm moving to Australia in Nov 10 and am looking at applying as a student paramedic with the Queensland Ambulance Service. I will have Permanent Residency because I've been married to an Australian for 5 years and we have three children who all have Australian Citizenship. I don't know much about the suburbs of Brisbane so I thought I'd list the suburbs I can apply to work in and ask if anyone could give me any pointers about them. I'm looking for somewhere I could buy a house (with a garden) for a family of 5 for $350000, somewhere with good Kindergartens / Nursery schools, where I wouldn't need a car (so the wife and kids can have it), I'd like to cycle to work but public transport would be fine, with good parks, a decent rugby (union) team to play for, preferably with an attached netball or tennis club for the missus, a public swimming pool, an area with lots of young families, decent local pubs / restaurants / cafes that are family friendly, easy to get to City centre / other attractions so not too isolated (less than 45 mins on public transport or by car). I know it's a lot to ask for but here are the suburbs: Central Areas Chermside Eatons Hill Grovely Northgate Roma St. Spring Hill Northern Areas Bribie Island Caboolture Deception Bay Naranga Petrie Redcliffe Sandgate South West Areas Centenary Durack Kenmore Mt Gravatt Nathan South Brisbane Sunnybank Hills South East Areas Balmoral Birkdale Capalaba Carina Cleveland Redland Bay Wynnum Also if there's anyone working for the QAS who could give me pointers as to the busiest stations that would be great. I'm currently an Infantryman so the busier the better as far as I'm concerned; both to give me experience and to be as interesting as possible. I want to become a paramedic as I'm at the stage where it's a desk job next for me if I stay in and I believe as a paramedic you can continue to develop professionally and get promoted whilst remaining out on the ground, doing the job on the streets Yours Gareth

I am currently a nurse and my partner is a paramedic in the UK. We are emigrating to Adelaide hopefuly end of 2005, early 2006. I should have no problems in getting a job, but we have found it difficult to get information on paramedic jobs in Adelaide. Any tips? Thanks, Angela
