Morning, I am currently an ODP in the forces but after 13 years its time to leave, so i have signed off and have the next year to prepare for transition. From my research i can see that the equivalent is an anaesthetic technician. I am new to this whole process and really don't know where to start? My other half is a floor layer also looking for employment. Has anyone got advice on the routes we should go down? what are the must's? where best to look for employment? visa's ect .........All advice is greatly welcomed. thank you Natasha

Perth became regional a few weeks ago, does anyone know if and when Anaesthetic Techs (ODP) can change from a 457 visa to a permanent visa whilst staying in Perth and not have to move to the country like before? There is no information on the immigration web site at all about Perth becoming regional??? Any info would be great. Thanks

Hiya This might be a long post so please bare with me! My wife has nearly qualified as an ODP (She did the 2 yr diploma course, here in the UK) and I am a time served Diesel Mechanic. We are hoping to apply for our 457 visa soon, and we r deciding between Perth and Melbourne (Perth will be where we decide if i am honest) the only prob is we cant find any info for the wife with regard to jobs in oz for her. Do ODP's exist in oz? will she need to have further training to transfer her qualifications to australian standerds? Any help will be gratefully received!!! TIA Map1079

Just reading throug a few comments here and there... and one in particular regrding ODP's being a cheaper alternative to a theatre nurse!!!!... I am a regisered ODP, specilaist in advanced anaesthetics and recovery in all specilaities except cardiac. I no longer work in theatre.. I am a resuscitation officer on a senior grade with a university clinical teaching qualification and am a certified resuscitation instructor through the resuscitation council uk. My boss ( the head of resus ) is also an ODP and is the equivilant to a matron (on the same salary too ! )...so as far as a cheaper alternative to a theatre nurse i don't think so......:arghh: A newly qulified ODP is on the same salary ( band 5 ) as a nurse and can progress in the same way as a nurse, so anyone not being paid the same as nurses for their grade needs to get some union advice.... On a lighter note, I am looking to emigrate to OZ, had enough of the NHS and the rubbish weather !!! can anyone advise my options please...Any help is really really appreciated... Many thanks:biggrin:

Hi All, We are still on our journey to get to Oz, anyone who has read any of my posts in the passed will have read that my wife wanted to become a midwife with the view to moving to Oz once qualified, unfortunatly the Uni didnt offer her a place even though she completed her Access to Health Care diploma this week with Merits and Distinctions I must add!! She is now looking at other aspects of Nursing, something that does interest her is the ODP role, does anyone have any experiance in this field and are these positions avalible in Oz? any help muchly appreciated.....

Hi all, Can anyone help me...my step brother and sister in law are thinking of emigrating. She is an ODP (operating Dept technician) similar to a scrub nurse and he is a qualified gas fitter. What are their emigration options??? Any advice welcome, I've been asked to put out some feelers for them. They want to move to Perth or Adelaide preferably. many thanks... Fiona :cute:

Hi I am currently working in Perth on a 457 visa, vaid for 4 years I am a operating department practioner from the uk. In australia i am employed as an anaestetic tech. What i would like any odps considering comming out on a 457 visa to know is that despite the fact that you can work here you will not get PR. Our occupation is not on the ens list :realmad: I was sponsered by my employer to work but they carnt sponser me for pr because its not on the list. so after the 4 years are up looks like i will have to leave, apply for another 457 or hope that one day it my occupation goed on the ens list. is anyone else in the same situation as me, would love to here from you Alison

Hi All, I am just in the early stages of applying for registration and trying to relocate to Aus. It seems nurses have an extremely easy method of gaining a permanent visa almost automatically, cutting out some of the red tape. Does anyone know where we ODP’s/Anaesthetic Techs/APO’s stand with regards to gaining visas. Once again we don't seem to be on the same level even after doing the same standard of Diploma and are not on the Skills Shortage list. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Tim.
